
Tunisia: Minister of Economy Meets with CEO of German Group PRETTL
On Wednesday, April 2, 2025, Minister of Economy and Planning, Mr. Samir Abdel Hafidh, met with Mr. Rolf PRETTL, CEO of the German group PRETTL, which specializes primarily in the manufacturing of automotive cables. Mr. PRETTL is currently visiting Tunisia, accompanied by a number of his associates.
During the meeting, Mr. Rolf PRETTL discussed the group's activities, its international presence, and its plans for further development. The discussion also touched on the progress made towards establishing an industrial unit in Tunisia, which is expected to create around 500 jobs in the coming months.
Mr. PRETTL expressed his satisfaction with the preparatory work for launching the project in Tunisia, highlighting the investment climate and the various advantages available, particularly the strategic geographical location and the highly skilled workforce. He emphasized that these factors have reinforced the group's confidence in choosing Tunisia as a promising destination for investment and business expansion.
For his part, Minister Samir Abdel Hafidh welcomed PRETTL Group's decision to invest in Tunisia, stressing that the expansion will help meet supply demands, particularly in the European and American markets.
The minister also reaffirmed the readiness of the ministry, along with the relevant investment bodies and institutions, to provide the necessary support and facilitation to ensure the company can launch its operations and production under the best conditions and within optimal timeframes.

Tunisia: Olive Oil exports rise while revenue falls by 28.9%
The Tunisian olive oil export receipts during the first six months of the 2024/25 campaign (November 2024 – April 2025) dropped by 28.9% to 2,442.4 million dinars (MD) compared to the same period of the previous campaign, according to data published on Wednesday by ONAGRI. Only 17.7% of revenue comes from exports of packaged olive oil. The average price of olive oil in April 2025 fell by 48.9% compared to the same month in the previous campaign, ranging from 7.1 to TND 18/kg depending on the category. The European market (EU) accounts for the largest share of exports, at 59.5%, followed by North America (24.9%) and Africa (9.6%). Quantities exported from the start of the campaign to the end of April 2025 reached 180.2 thousand tons, marking a 40.1% increase compared to the same period of the previous campaign. Packaged olive oil represented only 11.9% of the exported quantities, with the rest being exported in bulk (88.1%). The extra virgin category alone accounted for 82.5% of the total volume exported. Italy is the leading importer of Tunisian olive oil, accounting for 29% of exports during the first six months of the 2024/25 campaign. Spain and the United States follow with 26% and 19.6% respectively. Regarding organic olive oil, exports reached 34.3 thousand tons, valued at around 469.1 MD, by the end of April 2025. However, the proportion of packaged organic olive oil did not exceed 5% of the total exported organic olive oil. The average price of organic olive oil is TND 13.68/kg, ranging from TND 13.47/kg for bulk oil to TND 17.65/kg for packaged oil. Tunisian organic olive oil is mainly exported to Italy, accounting for 58% of exports, followed by Spain (21%) and the United States (11%).

Ten Tunisian IT Companies to Showcase at GITEX Europe in Berlin

Tunisia buys 25,000t of feed barley in restricted tender, traders say
European traders reported that Tunisia's state grain agency bought around 25,000 tons of feed barley at an international auction on Wednesday with limited participation. Trading house Viterra was said to have bought the barley for $253.43 per ton, including freight and cost (c&f). Traders said that only companies from African Development Bank Group member countries were eligible to participate in the tender. The African Development Bank Group is the financier of the tender. Traders said that only two other trading houses participated. Barley can come from a variety of origins. It will be shipped between May 25 and June 15, depending on the origin chosen. The reports reflect the assessments of traders, and future estimates on prices and volume are possible.
