Boston Legacy in advanced talks to hire Benfica's Filipa Patao as their first head coach
Benfica women head coach Filipa Patao is set to leave the club and is in advanced talks to join the Boston Legacy FC for its debut season in the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL), sources tell The Athletic.
Benfica are currently participating in the inaugural World Sevens Football (W7F) tournament, where Patao is expected to oversee her final matches in charge of the team. The DAZN broadcasters mentioned the potential move at the start of Benfica's match against Roma, which ended with Roma winning in penalty kicks.

Portuguese newspaper A BOLA was first to report the talks.
The 36-year-old joined Benfica in 2020, two years after its debut season. Under Patao, the club has won the Campeonato Nacional, the highest level of women's football in Portugal, five times in a row. She also won the Taca de Portugal and the Taca da Liga (twice), the nation's two domestic cup competitions.
Patao also led the club to the quarterfinals of the Champions League in the 2023-24 season, becoming the first Portuguese side to reach the last eight of the competition.
Benfica lost 2-1 against Paris-Saint Germain and 3-1 against Manchester United in their first two W7F matches.
The Legacy is in search of its first ever head coach and is set to play its first NWSL season next year alongside a new team in Denver that is yet to be named. It did not respond to a request for comment when contacted by The Athletic.
The team was set to play its inaugural campaign at White Stadium in Boston but delays in its redevelopment have meant that they will now play at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. They will share the stadium with Major League Soccer's New England Revolution.
Boston won its expansion bid in 2023 and the team was originally named BOS Nation FC but was renamed after facing criticism. The club received over 500 suggestions during the name change process.
The Legacy is set to reveal its crest on June 7.

Liverpool have a THIRD Hungarian and it's not Milos Kerkez
Liverpool have a THIRD Hungarian and it's not Milos Kerkez Four years ago, Liverpool brought in Patrik and Erik Farkas to the academy. The older of the two brothers, Patrik, spent just around two years at Liverpool and has become a Hungarian youth international and currently plays for Blackburn Rovers, where he is highly regarded. Advertisement Meanwhile, Erik, who rejected Manchester City and Manchester United to join the Reds continues to play for the club's academy and represents the U16 side. The youngster is now 15-years-old and while he is eligible to play for Hungary, he has recently made his debut for England's U16 national team. Erik even scored on just his third appearance for the young Three Lions but despite his brilliance, Hungary hope that he will represent the nation at senior level. The Hungarian-born youngster is regarded as one of the most promising young talents in the academy at Liverpool. Coaches have likened him to Ballon d'Or winner Luka Modric for his exquisite technical ability and for his vision on the pitch. Advertisement The youngster has already attracted the attention of senior figures at the club, who have closely observed him in training sessions and have been blown away by his performances. Szoboszlai is also known as an admirer of the young Hungarian talent. Predominantly an attacking midfielder, Erik can also play as a holding midfielder and as a box-to-box no.8. He has been playing for the club's U15 and U16 teams last season and is seen as an ideal fit for Arne Slot's style of football in the long-term. In the short-term, it is only a matter of time until he makes the next step up to the U18 side.

Mbappé goal and assist as France beat Germany 2-0 for NL third place
France's Kylian Mbappe celebrates scoring his side's first goal during the UEFA Nations League soccer match between Germany and France at Stuttgart Arena. Federico Gambarini/dpa Captain Kylian Mbappé scored and set up the other as France beat hosts Germany 2-0 on Sunday in the Nations League match for third place. Mbappé netted a 50th goal in his 90th cap shortly before half-time, and then fed Michael Olise for the deciding second in the 84th. Advertisement Victory was sweet after Thursday's 5-4 semi-final defeat against Spain, while Germany ended the home event with two defeats, having lost their semi 2-1 against Portugal on Wednesday. Florian Wirtz hit the post, the hosts had a penalty call and a goal nullified upon review, but were also wasteful, especially early on. The two games highlighted that Germany lack the squad depth of other top teams and have a lot of work ahead to become a major force again at big events. Much-changed France were a constant threat on the counter after the break, with Marcus Thuram hitting the outside post, and German goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen making several big saves. The final between title holders and Euro 2024 champions Spain and Portugal is later Sunday in Munich.
