Culture minister Suryabanshi Suraj attended the workshop as chief guest and emphasised that Odia nationalism transcends regional boundaries and plays a crucial role in shaping youth leadership in the current generation. "Our youth will emerge as strong leaders in the development of both Odisha and India at large. They will create a distinct identity for themselves as heirs of Kalinga. They will carry forward the legacy of Kalinga," said Suraj.
The workshop featured three specialised sessions focusing on different aspects of Kalinga War, such as the pre-war status of Kalinga state, the war period, and post-war developments. Discussions also covered Odisha's maritime history, naval heritage and Buddhist artefacts.
Secretary of the Akademi, Chandra Sekhar Hota, who conducted the proceedings, announced that the workshop's conclusions would be documented for future reference and implementation. The Akademi will oversee the proper reflection and practical application of the findings.

Delhi Court Refuses to Take Cognisance of Chargesheet Against Udit Raj in Protest Case
New Delhi: A Delhi court on Thursday refused to take cognisance of a chargesheet against Congress functionary Udit Raj in a case of allegedly disobeying a Delhi Police prohibitory order while holding a protest at the house of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal earlier this year. The court of additional chief judicial magistrate Neha Mittal said there was nothing on record to show that the accused had knowledge of the order. "It is also pertinent to note that there is no evidence on record regarding the identity of the accused. Despite the fact that the incident in question was videographed by the police officials, the accused cannot be seen in the entire video," it added. Raj, along with a few others, staged a protest near Kejriwal's residence on Jan 20, demanding a monthly salary for Buddhist monks and priests of Guru Ravidas and Valmiki temples. According to police, Raj's protest caused traffic congestion and inconvenience to commuters. Police claimed that the protesters were informed about the prohibitory order and the imposition of the Model Code of Conduct through loudspeaker announcements. However, the court found these claims unsubstantiated. The court also said that no police officer was specifically named in the chargesheet as having made such an announcement, nor were their statements recorded under Section 180 BNS. "In view of the above discussion, this court is of the considered opinion that there does not exist sufficient ground for taking cognisance of the offence punishable under Section 223 BNS. No other offence appears to be made out from the chargesheet. Accordingly, cognisance in the present case is declined," the judge concluded. People's trust gives us strength, says Majhi
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday said on this day, a year ago, the people of Odisha chose development and blessed the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a 'people's government' in the State, ending the 24-year rule of Biju Janata Dal headed by Naveen Patnaik. 'A year ago, on this day, you chose development; you wanted positive change in Odisha and blessed the Bharatiya Janata Party to form a people's government. This was the victory of truth, the victory of 'Asmita' (Odia pride)', Majhi said in a post on X. He said, 'Your trust gives us strength to work. Your trust inspires us to fulfil all our promises. In honour of the trust, confidence and hope you have placed in us, our government has been and will continue to strive to build a prosperous and developed Odisha by serving the people of Odisha.' The BJP formally formed its government in the State on June 12, 2024, after the saffron party was declared winner on June 4 by getting 78 seats in the 147-member Odisha Assembly while the BJD won 51 seats followed by Congress (14), CPI(M) (1) and Independents (3). Majhi, who won from Keonjhar Assembly seat, was a surprise pick of the BJP as its first Chief Minister in Odisha. He took the oath of office along with two deputy chief ministers and 13 other ministers on June 12 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. 'Though BJP formed government in Odisha due to number game, the people have cast more votes in favour of BJD than the saffron party candidates. The people have trust in Naveen Ji and his leadership,' BJD senior vice-president Debi Prasad Mishra said. Mishra said the Biju Janata Dal is performing its role as a 'responsible' Opposition party in Odisha.
