Waterford outclass sorry Saffrons at Corrigan Park
A return to Corrigan Park did not have the desired effect for Antrim on Sunday as they were out-gunned by an impressive Waterford who claimed a utterly dominant 2-23 to 0-11 win in Division 1B of the Allianz Hurling League.The Déise made good use of the elements in the first period to build a 16-point wind and managed the game well in the second with Antrim never really threatened to get back into it.It was a disappointing display from Davy Fitzgerald's men who were out-hustled and out-muscled as the visitors came at them with intensity and the result now leaves them in a precarious position in the battle to avoid the drop.Playing with an extremely strong wind at their backs, Waterford immediately set about building a big lead and had two points on the board within the opening minute.The lead was three with 10 played before the visitors grabbed their first goal as a superb poc-out from Billy Nolan found Conor Prunty in stride with the ball worked to Kevin Mahony to crack home.Their second major came six minutes later and from a Stephen Bennett penalty, awarded as he was adjudged to have been clipped outside the area, but deemed a goalscoring opportunity denied and Keelan Molloy would spend 10 minutes in the sin-bin to compound matters.The scores flowed for Waterford with Jamie Barron and Dessie Hutchinson hitting some beauties, as Antrim only had a couple of James McNaughton frees to show until late in the half when Seaan Elliott had a sight of goal but shot over.But the visitors had a commanding 2-14 to 0-4 lead at the interval with Antrim's hopes long gone.The Saffrons made a decent start to the second period with the first four points including one from substitute Eoin O'Neill, but were unable to sustain the momentum with Waterford adapting to playing into the gale, rattling off four of their own to restore to 16-point gap going into the final quarter.They could have had a third goal only for the crossbar denying Hutchinson, but the game was long decided and petered out late with Waterford home and hosed.

Three scores accompanied by an array of immaculate skills earned Lynch the Man of the Match award after a six-point triumph over Waterford. In the next clash against league champions Cork in the TUS Gaelic Grounds, Limerick and Lynch in particular showed up from the opening whistle. The Limerick captain and playmaker was instrumental in a decisive 16-point victory which booked Limerick's spot in their seventh consecutive Munster final. Donegal stalwart Michael Murphy has been awarded the May player of the month award for his inspirational performances throughout the month, none more prominent than the Ulster title decider versus defending All-Ireland champions Armagh. After taking a year off Murphy appears to be back to his best, dominating aerial contests and overpowering his opposition. Advertisement A repeat of last year's Ulster final, the returning Murphy was the difference-maker, scoring three points and helping set up plenty more as Donegal retained their provincial crown. Murphy followed this up with an eight-point haul in a defeat against Tyrone in the All-Ireland series. Five-goal Wexford knock Antrim out of Tailteann Cup
Antrim's season ended in dismal fashion as they crashed out of the Tailteann Cup with a 5-23 to 2-21 defeat by Wexford in the preliminary quarter-finals. Having narrowly earned a spot in the prelims as the third best of the third-placed teams in the round-robin stage, Andy McEntee's side hoped to stage another stirring run through the knockout rounds after back-to-back semi-final appearances in 2023 and they were well beaten in Wexford Park as they were put to the sword by the Model County's full-forward line of Sean Nolan (2-3), Ben Brosnan (1-2) and Jack Higgins (0-3).Goals from Nolan and Brosnan, and a couple of Darragh Brooks two-pointers, helped Wexford establish a commanding 2-14 to 0-7 lead at the break. And John Hegarty's side pulled clear after the restart and led by 19 points when Nolan struck his second goal to put the Leinster county 3-20 to 0-10 up To Antrim's credit, they refused to give up. After Mark Rossiter raised the home side's fourth green flag, quickfire goals by Patrick Finnegan and Dominic McEnhill and three two-pointers helped them reduce the deficit to eight points. However, substitute Robbie Brooks added a fifth goal for Wexford to bring the curtain down on a disappointing year for Antrim, who were also relegated from Division who qualified for the quarter-finals by topping their group, are the sole Ulster representation left in this year's Tailteann Cup.
