Oilers and Panthers Share Strong Messages After Heated Game 3
Oilers and Panthers Share Strong Messages After Heated Game 3 originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final had a very different tone from the first two, in terms of how unbalanced and physical it was.

The Florida Panthers' 6–1 blowout of the Edmonton Oilers on Monday included 140 total penalty minutes, three power-play goals for the Panthers, and multiple scrums that led to misconducts on both sides.
The Oilers started poorly, surrendering the first goal just 56 seconds into the game and allowing five before pulling Stuart Skinner early in the final frame.
By then, the game was well out of reach, but the physical damage was just beginning, with things escalating steadily through the night until the explosion occurred in the shape of a late line brawl.
Matthew Tkachuk explained the Panthers' mentality entering the final period of Game 3 with a 4-1 lead and aiming to close things out no matter how.

'We talked about it in the third. If you have to take a punch, take a punch. If you have to take a cross-check, take a cross-check. Spear, slash in the face, whatever the case is, you've got to take it,' Tkachuk said. 'We just played a really smart game.'
Oilers defenseman Jake Walman, on the other side of the bruising affair, captured the same sentiment in rather raw terms.
'I mean it's for the Stanley Cup, you know. So (expletive). There's not an inch out there," Walman said, per Chris Johnston. "It's a grown man's game out there. That's not for the faint of heart."
'Guys are putting everything on the line, you know?'

Evander Kane picked up 25 minutes in penalties, including a misconduct for striking a downed Carter Verhaeghe with his stick, prompting his ejection from the game.

The Oilers committed 15 minor penalties overall, and the Panthers capitalized with three power-play goals in 11 opportunities.
Florida now holds a 2–1 series lead with Game 4 set for Thursday night in Sunrise, FL.

Predators expect captain Roman Josi back for camp despite health diagnosis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Nashville captain Roman Josi is expected at training camp in September after the Predators said Wednesday the defenseman was diagnosed with postural tachycardia syndrome or POTS late last season. 'He has been undergoing treatment since that diagnosis and is progressing exceptionally well,' general manager Barry Trotz said in a statement. 'We concur with Roman that with continued management and treatment, he can return to the ice for the 2025-26 season and continue with his elite hockey career." The 2020 Norris Trophy winner and three-time All-Star was limited to 53 games this season by a concussion. His last game was Feb. 25 against now two-time Stanley Cup champion Florida when he didn't return after driven hard into the end boards by Sam Bennett midway through the second period. POTS doesn't have a cure but can be treated. Its symptoms include a fast heart rate, dizziness and fatigue. Josi, who turned 35 at the start of June, was among the first six players selected Monday to Switzerland's Olympic roster for the 2026 Winter Games in Italy. The captain signed an eight-year $72 million contract in 2019 through the 2027-28 season. He has played 962 games with 190 goals and 534 assists. Trade time The Predators also announced they have acquired forward Erik Haula from New Jersey for defenseman Jeremy Hanzel and a fourth-round pick in next week's draft. This brings Haula back for a second stint with Nashville. A seventh-round pick by Minnesota in 2009, Haula has played 759 games with the Wild, Vegas, Carolina, Florida, Nashville, Boston and New Jersey. Now 34, Haula played 69 games for the Devils this season with 21 points and 39 penalty minutes. The 5-foot-11, 191-pound forward averaged 14 minutes, 42 seconds of ice time per game. He also had 101 hits and blocked 35 shots. The Predators still have nine selections in the 2025 NHL draft starting June 27, including three in the first round.

Phillies Finally Expected to Cut Ties With Brandon Marsh, Per Insider
Phillies Finally Expected to Cut Ties With Brandon Marsh, Per Insider originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Phillies have some major decisions to make at the trade deadline. After months of the team performing at a somewhat decent level, but not great, there are a few ways they could improve. Advertisement Ultimately, the Phillies need a center fielder, and if Dave Dombrowski doesn't find one now, it's tough to say he ever will. And according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, that'll be the Phillies' biggest focus at the deadline. He questioned if fans think the Phillies want to find a center fielder, adding that they have a .609 OPS as a group, which would be the worst in the history of the Phillies at the position. 'You think the Phillies would love to find a center fielder at the deadline?' asked Nightengale. 'Their center fielders have a .609 OPS, which would rank the lowest at the position in franchise history.' Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Brandon Marsh (16) hits a single against the Toronto Blue Jays in the fifth inning at Citizens Bank Ross-Imagn Images Brandon Marsh and others who the Phillies put out in center haven't done the job. Advertisement The Phillies have attempted to use multiple players at the position in recent years, but haven't answered the questions many have about them. Marsh is currently hitting .254 with just two home runs. While he's a decent defender, he seems to be the one who'll be the odd man out. It remains uncertain if the Phillies would send him in a deal to another team, as he's a decent professional who could find at-bats elsewhere. Still, it's tough to imagine a scenario where any team wants him too much. Regardless of that situation, the Phillies have a need for a centerfielder, and Dombrowski owes it to this fan base to find one. Rangers Nearing Good News After Latest Pitching Updates
Rangers Nearing Good News After Latest Pitching Updates originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Texas Rangers rotation could receive some much-needed depth in the coming weeks. A pair of injured pitchers continue to move forward in their rehab work. Advertisement Jon Gray could be ready to make his season debut by late July, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. Gray resumed throwing off a mound last week as he works his way back from a fractured right wrist suffered in mid-March. Gray will throw three more bullpen sessions before facing hitters. The right-hander is expected to return as a starter for the Rangers, though there was some talk during Spring Training about moving him to the bullpen, so his role could ultimately depend on the team's needs at the time of his return. He threw 102 2/3 innings in 2024 due to a pair of groin strains and a foot neuroma that required offseason surgery. Advertisement Cody Bradford could be ready to make his season debut even sooner, possibly by early July, according to Grant. Bradford has been throwing off a mound for several weeks as he recovers from a left elbow sprain and appears close to being cleared for a rehab assignment. Rangers manager Bruce Bochy said last week he hoped Bradford would be stretched out to five innings by July 4, which would pave the way for a return soon after. The left-hander held a 3.54 ERA and a 70:10 K:BB ratio over 76 1/3 innings in 2024. He has not pitched in a game this season since a March 6 exhibition against the San Diego Padres during Spring Training.
