Abu Dhabi-based petrochemicals company Borouge PLC has partnered with Honeywell to conduct a proof of concept for AI-powered autonomous operations. The company said in a media release that this collaboration has the potential to revolutionize its UAE plant operations.
The collaboration between Borouge and Honeywell is set to deliver the petrochemical industry's first AI-driven control room designed for full-scale, real-time operation, establishing a new standard for the future of AI in petrochemicals, Borouge said.
'Borouge's AI, Digitalization, and Technology (AIDT) transformation program is setting new standards in operations, innovation, and business performance. By collaborating with global AI leaders such as Honeywell, we are accelerating growth, driving efficiency, and enhancing shareholder value. This project further strengthens Borouge's competitive edge as we continue to deliver on our ambitious AIDT roadmap,' Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Borouge, said.
The companies agreed to bring their expertise in process technology and autonomous control capabilities to identify new opportunities to deploy Agentic AI solutions and advanced machine learning algorithms, Borouge said.

'Our collaboration with Borouge is a clear example of how joint efforts can accelerate innovation across industry. By integrating AI and automation technologies into core operations, we are helping unlock new levels of efficiency, safety, and performance. This agreement shows how advanced technologies, applied with purpose, can reshape industrial operations at scale', George Bou Mitri, President of Honeywell Industrial Automation in the Middle East, Turkey, Africa and Central Asia, said.
Borogue said the initiative seeks to implement proof-of-concept technologies that will improve its operations across its Ruwais facilities in the UAE. By embracing autonomous operations, Borouge said it can optimize production, cut energy consumption, and boost safety, all while driving down costs, at what will be the world's largest petrochemical site.
Borouge expects its AIDT program to bring in $575 million in value this year. In 2024, Borouge's diverse portfolio of over 200 AIDT initiatives - spanning operations, health and safety, sales, sustainability, and product innovation - generated $573 million in value, the company said.

Gmail could soon help you skim your entire inbox without opening any emails (APK teardown)
Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority TL;DR Gmail is working on a new feature that could display a one-line AI summary directly in your inbox in the main email list. Such brief, auto-updating synopses could help you quickly scan long conversations without opening them. When the feature rolls out, users will also be able to provide feedback on the one-line summaries with 'Helpful' or 'Not Helpful' votes. One of the most common use cases for AI is using it for summarizing content. AI summaries are really helpful in condensing information from long threads for skimming through, and you can always read through the whole conversation if you need more details. Gmail implemented automatic Gemini summary cards in the Android app late last month, and it seems the service could expand these summaries into the main email list too. Discover Authority Insights for more exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage you won't find anywhere else. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Gmail users can trigger AI-based summaries in several ways. They can manually trigger an email summary on any email by clicking the 'Summarize this email' button at the top of the message. This will open Gemini and show a summary of the thread. Gmail also automatically creates AI summaries on long email threads or messages with several replies — the summary also keeps up to date with any new replies. However, both of these options require users to be in a specific email thread, which makes skimming through messages less efficient. Gmail v2025.06.22 includes code for enabling email summary cards right out in the main email list. These appear to be a super-condensed one-line summary of the entire email thread. We managed to activate the feature ahead of its release to give you an early look: As you can see in the first screenshot, the first email has a one-liner email summary visible. Other email threads aren't as long, so they don't need a summary in the main email list per se. Even with just one summarized email, coupled with other summary cards like for orders (see the Shiprocket 'Expected' and 'Delivered' summary in the first screenshot), you can see how the main email list becomes skimmable, letting you go through one full screen of emails and figure out what you need to action. Naturally, there's only so much information that a one-liner summary can provide, so you can't rely on it to completely tell you all the details on all long threads. Still, it would be a convenient way to have up-to-date information displayed in the main email list. As you can see in the third screenshot, you can long-press on emails with one-liner summaries and tap on the three-dot menu to get the 'Helpful summary' and 'Not a helpful summary' voting options. Google has yet to announce this change for Gmail. Given its utility in taming wild inboxes, we hope to see it roll out soon. Got a tip? Talk to us! Email our staff at Email our staff at news@ . Chanos Warns of AI Pullback, ‘Absurd' Bitcoin Treasury Companies
Enthusiasm for all things artificial intelligence has helped propel stocks to another all-time high, but the AI ecosystem is getting close to a potential pullback, warned legendary short-seller Jim Chanos. The founder of Chanos & Co. likened the dominance of AI companies to networking giants such as Cisco and Lucent which characterized the market of the 1990s and saw their stocks soar as companies upgraded their systems to handle the new internet age. At a live recording of the Odd Lots podcast in New York, he cautioned that a potential pullback in demand from corporate customers for AI-related goods and services could spark a contraction in both corporate earnings and economic growth.
