Mason County man charged with DUI crash that killed motorcyclist in Pierce County
A 35-year-old Grapeview driver accused of crashing into a motorcyclist on the Key Peninsula while under the influence Tuesday has been charged.
Prosecutors charged Zachary Douglas Hines with driving under the influence and vehicular homicide, court records show.
A plea of not guilty was entered on Hines' behalf during his arraignment Thursday afternoon. Pierce County Superior Court Commissioner Barbara McInvaille set his bail at $500,000, records show.
Washington State Patrol troopers were dispatched at 7:53 p.m. to the crash on state Route 302 near 138th Avenue Northwest. A homeowner called 911 to report hearing the crash occur, according to the investigation report.
The motorcyclist, Timothy Trammell, 40 of Port Orchard, was unresponsive and in a ditch. According to the report, he was declared dead at the scene.
The white Ford F350 that allegedly crashed into the motorcycle was in a ditch, the report said. When a trooper asked fire personnel if they spoke to Hines, they told him he was not responding to any questions and allegedly refused to come out of the ditch.
Hines eventually emerged from the ditch to speak to the trooper. The trooper said that Hines' speech was 'extremely slurred' and he appeared lethargic. When the trooper asked what happened, Hines said he attempted to pass the bike, but then collided with it head-on. When asked for more details, Hines allegedly appeared confused and kept making comments not relevant to the trooper's questions.
Investigators learned that Hines was driving his Ford on westbound state Route 302 when he crossed over into the center lane. He allegedly crashed into Trammell's motorcycle, which was in the eastbound lane.
The trooper allegedly smelled a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Hines. When asked how much alcohol he drank, Hines replied with two, documents show.
Hines declined to perform voluntary field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test, the report said. Hines was placed under arrest for suspicion of DUI.
The trooper took Hines to St. Anthony Hospital in Gig Harbor, documents show. A blood draw was conducted. A nurse also administered a preliminary breath test, and Hines' result allegedly was 0.099 percent. The legal limit in Washington is .08.
Hines had been convicted in April 2019 for DUI and hit-and-run of an attended vehicle in Mason County, according to court documents.

Boy at park reports unknown man solicited him for lewd acts
WARREN, Ohio (WKBN) – A boy who was at Packard Park reported that he was solicited by an unknown man who offered him money to watch him perform lewd acts. The boy, whose age was redacted from a police report, and his mother called police around 1 p.m. Wednesday to report the incident. The boy told police that he was by the pond, waiting for family members to arrive to fish, when he noticed a man sitting in a dark-colored Ford SUV watching him. He said the man then got out of the vehicle and continued staring at him, according to the police report. The boy said he asked the man, 'You good, bro?' to which the man replied that he was just at the park, hanging out. He went on to say, 'I was at Perkins Park a little while ago, but there were no kids there,' the report stated. The boy told police that he thought the statement was odd, but said he did not respond. He said the man then asked if he 'wanted to make some money,' and when he questioned the man about what he meant, he said the man offered to pay him $150 to perform lewd acts while watching one another. The boy told police that the man got back into his vehicle when he told him that he was not interested, but he said he continued to watch him. He said he eventually left when he took out his phone and began taking photos of the man's car. He then called his mother, who called police. He described the man as being an approximately 60-year-old white man wearing black overall/suspender-type pants and a green t-shirt, with longer gray hair that was covered by some type of hat. Police said the photo appeared to show a newer-model Ford Explorer, either black or dark blue in color. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Senior pedestrian, moped rider killed in separate NYC crashes in 24 hours
A 74-year-old pedestrian and a 42-year-old man riding a moped were killed by cars during separate back-to-back crashes in the city within 24 hours, officials said Friday. Victim Eric Wexler was crossing the corner of 217 St. and Northern Blvd. in Cambria Heights about 10 p.m. on Wednesday when a 2017 Chevy Tahoe driven by a 47-year-old man heading east on Northern Blvd. rammed into him, cops said. Wexler suffered massive injuries to his head and body and was rushed to North Shore Manhasset Hospital, where he died. The victim was not in the crosswalk and was crossing against the light when he was hit, cops said. The 47-year-old motorist remained on the scene. No charges were immediately filed. The Chevy Tahoe involved in the crash had racked up six speeding and one red light violation, according to although it wasn't clear if the 47-year-old driver was behind the wheel at those times. Wexler lives in Glen Oaks, Queens, and lived about four miles from where he died. Less than a day later, in Brooklyn, 42-year-old Rino El-Saieh was struck by a 2018 BMW at about 8:30 p.m. Thursday as he tried to make a left turn from E. 2nd St. onto Avenue P in Midwood, cops said. The 17-year-old BMW driver was heading west on Avenue P when he struck El-Saieh as he made the turn. The BMW veered out of control upon hitting the moped and slammed into a parked Ford van and a Hyundai Elantra, cops said. Medics rushed El-Saieh to Maimonides Medical Center, but he couldn't be saved. No other injuries were reported. The teen driver remained at the scene and hasn't been charged, cops said. El-Saieh lived in East New York, Brooklyn, officials said.

A shooter killed another man as he walked to a convenience store, MDSO says
A 53-year-old Miami man is behind bars, accused of fatally shooting another man as he walked to a convenience store Wednesday night, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Alexander Mills has been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Jonathan Lucas. Mills was arrested on Thursday. Deputies say the incident occurred around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, when Lucas left his home to walk to a convenience store at 22339 SW 112th Ave. While on his way, Lucas called his girlfriend and told her that Mills — who had previously threatened to kill him — was following him and firing shots, according to the sheriff's office. He urged her to call police. Authorities have not confirmed how the two men knew each other. Responding deputies found Lucas in the front yard of a nearby home at 11535 SW 224th St., about half a mile from the convenience store, and shot several times. He was airlifted to Jackson South Medical Center, where he died. Deputies say surveillance footage from the convenience store reportedly shows a Ford F-150 driving erratically through the parking lot. Mills got out of the truck and chased Lucas before shooting him, they said. Four spent shell casings were recovered at the scene. Investigators identified Mills as the shooter using license plate reader data, which they said showed the Ford truck was registered to him. He was later located driving the vehicle and taken into custody by the MDSO Homicide Bureau. According to the arrest report, as Mills was being detained, he stated that he had been waiting for police and acknowledged being the driver of the vehicle involved in the incident. He later claimed he acted in self-defense, a statement authorities say contradicts the surveillance footage. Jail records show Mills is in custody at Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and has a bond status of 'to be set.'
