Sudan's PM dissolves caretaker government, state news reports

Sudan's new Prime Minister Kamil Idris has dissolved the country's caretaker government, state news agency SUNA reported late on Sunday.
SUNA did not specify when a new government, the first since war broke out between the Sudanese army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), would be announced.
Idris was appointed by army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan,
Sudan's head of state. The RSF has said since earlier this year that it would form its own parallel government with allied parties.
Idris took the oath of office on Saturday as the country's first prime minister since a military-led coup in 2021.
In a speech on Sunday, he vowed to remain at equal distance from all political parties and to prioritise stability, security, and reconstruction in Sudan.
Meanwhile, three drone strikes hit key paramilitary positions in western Sudan, witnesses said on Sunday, as fighting between the army and RSF escalated.

Iran's supreme leader rejects key US nuclear demand, vows to keep enriching uranium

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday that Tehran will not abandon its uranium enrichment, rejecting a key US demand aimed at resolving a decades-long nuclear dispute, that he said was against the Islamic Republic's interests. The US proposal for a new nuclear deal was presented to Iran on Saturday by Oman, which has mediated talks between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi and President Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. After five rounds of talks, several hard-to-bridge issues remain, including Iran's insistence on maintaining uranium enrichment on its soil and Tehran's refusal to ship abroad its entire existing stockpile of highly enriched uranium – possible raw material for nuclear bombs. 'Uranium enrichment is the key to our nuclear programme and the enemies have focused on the enrichment,' Khamenei said in a televised speech. The US proposal 'contradicts our nation's belief in self-reliance and the principle of 'we can',' he said. 'The rude and arrogant leaders of America repeatedly demand that we should not have a nuclear programme. Who are you to decide whether Iran should have an enrichment?,' he added. Tehran says it wants to master nuclear technology for peaceful purposes and has long denied accusations by Western powers that it is seeking to develop nuclear weapons.

Zimbabwe to cull 50 elephants as population exceeds reserve capacity

Zimbabwe plans to cull dozens of elephants and distribute the meat for consumption in an effort to manage the growing elephant population, according to a statement from its wildlife authority on Tuesday. The country is home to the second-largest elephant population in the world, following Botswana. The cull will take place at a large private game reserve in the southeast and will initially target 50 elephants, as stated by the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority (ZimParks)
