Kate steals the show as she returns to huge royal event after cancer treatment

Daily Mirror17 hours ago

The Princess of Wales made a huge return to the royals' annual Garter Day event after missing last years due to her cancer treatment. Kate dazzled in a recycled white Self Portrait dress and hat by Sean Barrett as she proudly watched Prince William, along with King Charles and Queen Camilla, take part in one of the the most colourful events of the royal calendar.
It sees royals and others donning the grand velvet robes and plumed hats for a procession from the castle to St George's Chapel for a private service before they return in horse-drawn carriages. Kate watched the procession alongside Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, as neither are members of the ancient order, so did not take part.
However, the pair could be seen smiling as their husband William and Prince Edward processed from the castle to St George's Chapel in the robes and hats with the King and Queen as well as Princess Anne. Kate missed attending the annual event last year as it came as she was still undergoing cancer treatment, despite attending last year's Trooping the Colour just a day earlier.
One royal missing from today's procession was Prince Andrew, who despite being a member of the order has not taken part in the public procession for the last four years.
However, he was seen earlier today dressed in a shirt and tie driving to Windsor Castle for the event, where he was believed to have take part in the event's the annual lunch and investiture, which takes place behind closed doors.
Andrew stepped down from public life after the furore over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Since the 2022 Garter Day, the last one observed by the late Queen, he has not taken part in the public procession wearing the Garter robes and plumed hat.
Members of the Order include the King, several senior royals and other Knights or Ladies, who are personally chosen by the monarch for recognition of their work. They include former Prime Ministers Tony Blair and John Major as well as Baroness Amos.
It is limited to 24 Knights or Ladies Companion, in addition to the King and the Prince of Wales and several "supernumerary members", including some foreign monarchs such as the King of Spain and the King of the Netherlands.
Recipients of the honour are chosen because they have held public office, contributed to national life or served the sovereign personally.
The appointment of Knights and Ladies of the Garter is in the King's gift and is made without consulting ministers. After the service, the royals take part in a traditional carriage procession back up the hill to Windsor Castle.
The ceremony heralds a busy period for the royals, with the King and Queen expected at Royal Ascot in the coming days, and early next month they will host a state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Liam Payne's girlfriend in heartbreaking reality after message to 'best friend'

Liam Payne's girlfriend Kate Cassidy shared a poignant social media post to mark eight months since his death as she shared the heartbreaking reality she is facing Liam Payne's girlfriend took to social media to share a heartbreaking message to the star eight months after the death of her "angel". Kate Cassidy shared a number of snaps of the singer to mark the date, devastatingly admitting she thought "I had so much more time and life left to share" with the former One Direction man. Kate penned in the Instagram upload: "8 months ago today, I lost my best friend and someone I thought I had so much more time and life left to share with. Liam was the kind of person you'd start missing the moment you walked out the door. Even when leaving the house for a few hours, I'd find myself rushing home to be with him again out of excitement. Now facing the reality that I live in a constant state of missing you is something I still can't fully wrap my head around." The emotional post continued: "Knowing I can't just come home and see you, hear your voice, or feel your hug, it's a type of pain I can't fully put into words. I can't seem to tell if life is flying by without you or moving so slow none of it fully makes sense. But I am trying to live my life as best I can for now and live it for you. I miss you more than words can say. "One day, I'll see you again, and I'll have so much to tell you. So much to catch up on. I love you my angel. 444" Among the images was Liam and Kate in a bedroom as she appeared to be wearing a "Payne" shirt. Another showed the pair enjoying a laugh at a formal event. While Kate was wearing a striking red blazer, the singer was seen in a beige suit and hat combination. Kate also shared a screen shot of her phone from August 1. In it, there are a number of message alerts from Liam, including a sweet message that read: "I literally couldn't love you more if I tried and somehow I will tomorrow." He also told his girlfriend: "I can't wait to see you." Liz Hurley's son Damian was among those sharing a comment on the touching post. He wrote: "Charge Liam's Apple Watch," with a crying with laughter emoji. He continued to tell her: "I love you so much." Last week it was revealed two men accused of supplying former One Direction star with cocaine shortly before his death will face trial. Prosecutors revealed Waiter Braian Nahuel Paiz and ex-hotel worker Ezequiel David Pereyra will stand trial for their alleged part in the singer's death last October. They duo have been behind bars since January after they were charged in connection to Liam's death at a Buenos Aires hotel. The pair face up to 15 years in prison if convicted of drugs offences. Prosecutors also revealed Liam had taken cocaine in his CasaSur Palermo Hotel and and consumed it "up to a few minutes before his death".

UK's first dedicated Marie Antoinette exhibition to open at London museum

The UK's first exhibition dedicated to the life of French queen Marie Antoinette is to open at V&A South Kensington in London. Marie Antoinette Style will open at the museum in September, and will feature 250 objects including clothing and decorative arts, with some loaned from France's Chateau De Versailles. The exhibition's curator, Sarah Grant, said: 'The most fashionable, scrutinised and controversial queen in history, Marie Antoinette's name summons both visions of excess and objects and interiors of great beauty. 'The Austrian archduchess-turned queen of France had an enormous impact on European taste and fashion in her own time, creating a distinctive style that now has universal appeal and application. 'This exhibition explores that style and the figure at its centre, using a range of exquisite objects belonging to Marie Antoinette, alongside the most beautiful fine and decorative objects that her legacy has inspired. 'This is the design legacy of an early modern celebrity and the story of a woman whose power to fascinate has never ebbed. Marie Antoinette's story has been re-told and re-purposed by each successive generation to suit its own ends. 'The rare combination of glamour, spectacle and tragedy she presents remains as intoxicating today as it was in the 18th century.' The exhibition will feature richly embellished fragments of court dress, the queen's own silk slippers, and jewels from her private collection. There will also be a number of items which have never left France before, such as the queen's dinner service from the Petit Trianon, her accessories and items from her toilette case. Marie Antoinette Style will look at Antoinette's origins and impact on style from her own time to the present day through audio visual installations and 'immersive' curation. A scent experience will re-create the smells of the court, and the perfume favoured by the Antoinette. The exhibition will also feature contemporary clothing including pieces by designers such as Moschino, Dior, Chanel, Erdem, Vivienne Westwood and Valentino – and costumes from Sofia Coppola's Oscar-winning Marie Antoinette staring Kirsten Dunst.
