Bring it on – Hannon counting down to Ascot with Rosallion
Winner of the St James's Palace Stakes and Irish Guineas last season, he was having his first start for the best part of year when third in the Lockinge to Lead Artist.
In fourth was Notable Speech, who beat Rosallion in the 2000 Guineas but finished behind him at Ascot, and the pair look like meeting once again.
'I'm not going to lie, it was a little bit disappointing not to win, but he ran a super race,' Hannon told Sky Sports Racing.
'The reason he got beat in the Guineas last year, it's because he needs that first run. That was evident last year and even more evident this year now he's a year older.
'We're looking forward to Royal Ascot. Sean (Levey) got off and said he'd win the Queen Anne. I spoke to Charlie Appleby afterwards and he said Will (Buick) said he'd win it, so here we go again!
'It will be a fantastic race that we all can't wait for and he'll go there full on.
'You can win with horses in two-year-old races who haven't had a run, but at that level it counts. Some in the Lockinge were having their second or third runs of the year and my fellow was having his first run.
'Naturally ours improve for their first run and horses like him especially so. I'm not saying he's a certainty, but I'm looking forward to it.'

PRIDE OF ARRAS (3.30 Epsom, nap) He was extremely impressive when winning the Dante at York last time on just his second outing. That was his first start for nine months and he burst through the line to suggest this longer trip will be fine. His high draw could be tricky but not impossible and he has more to come. DOCKLANDS (1.35 Epsom, nb) He has some fancy Group 1 form including his second in the Queen Anne at last year's Royal Ascot. He was sent all over the globe after that with solid results and ran a solid comeback at Ascot last time. He'll be fitter for that and has won on quick and slow ground. VALVANO (4.15 Epsom, treble) He showed lots of promise last season and returned with a solid fourth at Goodwood last time. He should improve for that fitness wise and he handles any ground. Templegate's TV verdicts EPSOM 1.00 IF it comes up properly soft by racetime, Sparks Fly would be a cracking bet given her superb record in testing conditions. But assuming it's good to soft or quicker, ROYAL DRESS is the one to be on. She was an unlucky third in this last year before striking in this grade at The Curragh. She has since held her own in better races including when third at York last time. William Buick is an eyecatching booking too. Bermuda Longtail looked promising when beaten half a length in a York Listed contest last month and has much more to come. She gets plenty of weight for age too. Skellet progressed last season and is another who should be capable of better for Ralph Beckett. 1.35 DOCKLANDS has some fancy Group 1 form including his second in the Queen Anne at last year's Royal Ascot. He was sent all over the globe after that with solid results and ran a solid comeback at Ascot last time. He'll be fitter for that and has won on quick and slow ground. Persica didn't fire in the Lockinge last time but took a Newmarket Group 3 easily enough on comeback and has won here before. Ryan Moore's a good booking and he's a big threat. Royal Playwright gets the best part of a stone from his older rivals and didn't get the run of the race in the Dante last time. He could take a major step forward here. Royal Dubai wasn't disgraced at Ascot last time and looks the pick of the bigger prices. 2.10 AGAINST THE WIND could be the answer to this tricky puzzle. He has plenty of weight but has been running well with a Thirsk win followed by a fine York third last time. He gets away quickly so should be suited by this track. Naana's Sparkle ran a nice race at Goodwood last time when third and showed lots of pace. He looks on a fair mark. Ruby's Profit got the better of Mademoiselle in that race and they should both be right at home here too after showing a lot of boot. Tees Aggregates saves his best for Catterick so should love Epsom which is another tricky track. He may not be quite good enough to win but could be an each-way bet if you can get extra places. Blinky won a couple on the all-weather before a decent third at Chester last time. A repeat of that would put him in the place picture from what should be an ideal draw. 2.45 JER BATT always faced a tough task from a wide draw at Chester last time yet still ran a good race. He has some fine handicap form over this trip yet is still on a fair weight and the booking of Oisin Murphy is a plus. He'll be right there. Clarendon House is quirky but has enough quality to figure if he fancies it. He went well in the Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket last time. Last year's winner Dream Composer was also badly drawn at Chester latest but looked much better when second at Pontefract on comeback. He can figure again. Jm Jungle has been placed in hot York handicaps on his past two outings. He likes this trip and is a quick starter so has every chance. Vintage Clarets showed positive signs on the Knavesmire latest and is in the each-way picture too. 3.30 PRIDE OF ARRAS was a brilliant Dante winner at York and has more to come. French raider Midak looks overpriced, while Lambourn would have a say if the rain comes. Derby meeting jockey excited to make Epsom debut against role model Hollie Doyle
Isobelle Chalmers lines up in the Betfred 3YO Dash on Sandscreendeliverd, trained by Peter Crate. It comes a day after the teenager competes in an all-apprentice event at Goodwood Racecourse A teenage jockey is making her debut at Epsom's Derby meeting after taking every piece of advice from record-breaker Hollie Chalmers has her first ride around the famous track on Peter Crate-saddled Sandscreendeliverd in the Betfred 3YO Dash tomorrow. Run over what is considered to be the fastest five furlongs in the world, the event takes place just over an hour before the £1.5million Betfred Derby. Riding off 7st 9lb, her lowest in the last 12 months, 18-year-old Chalmers will come up against Doyle, who partners Kevin Ryan trainee Cape Sovereign. In May, Doyle claimed the record for the most winners ridden by a female jockey in Britain on Brindavan at Ascot. The 28-year-old's triumph was number 1,023 in a career which saw her make a Royal Ascot breakthrough in 2020 and in a Classic on Nashwa two years later. "Hollie is my role model and I've known her for a long time through my job as an apprentice at Andrew Balding's," said Chalmers. "She has watched some of my races back and helped me improve on little things, as well as in the gym as I'm light and a similar size to her. "She's so down to earth and it's great to have such a successful jockey to learn from." Chalmers kicked off her career in November 2024 by stunning the Lingfield opposition at 125-1 on Ashford Hill, a horse owned by her mother. The longshot lines up in the BetGoodwin Best Odds Guaranteed Fillies' Handicap at Goodwood this evening, on an all-apprentice racecard. "She's in form and back at six furlongs, so should have a chance," added Chalmers, a graduate of pony racing. Among her opponents on the night is Jack Doughty, who has a chance in each of the six races as he seeks his 100th career winner. Five of them, including Port Erin in the opening Bet Clever BetGoodwin Apprentice Handicap, are for his main employer Tony Carroll. Doughty rode out his claim on the trainer's sprinter Pop Dancer at Brighton on May 27 and he hopes to hit another milestone in West Sussex. "It would be great to reach 100 winners," he said. "At my age I feel very lucky to be doing this job and Tony has been very supportive." The raceday which first began in 2022 was created to give apprentices opportunities and celebrate emerging talent in the weighing room. It runs on a points-based system with a totaliser to decide who will be crowned Goodwood's leading apprentice, before DJ act Groove Armada takes to the stage after the thoroughbred action has concluded. Senior Racing Executive at the Professional Jockeys Association, Adam McNamara, said: "It cannot be understated how beneficial it is to our apprentice jockeys to have the opportunity to showcase their talents in front of a big crowd on a premier track."

Buick backing Desert Flower to bloom in quest for Oaks glory
It has been a sublime start to the summer for the Moulton Paddocks handler and his number one rider, and after picking up both Classics at Newmarket last month the pair now head to the Surrey Downs with an exceptional chance to continue their hot streak in racing's crown jewel events. The unbeaten Desert Flower has carried all before her in her career to date and now steps up in trip, with Buick confident her versatility will aid her bid to not only stay the trip but become the first filly since Love in 2020 to complete the Newmarket/Epsom double. But I do think she's very versatile – each time I've ridden her she has adapted to the race scenario. 'We could have kept her at a mile, it was put across the table as a plan, but we all felt she would get further. Whether that is a mile and a quarter or a mile and a half, we will see on Friday.' Saeed Bin Suroor's Elwateen was fourth to Desert Flower on just her second start in the 1000 Guineas and the Newmarket handler could celebrate the 30th anniversary of Lammtarra's Derby success in style, as like her Rowley Mile conqueror she puts her stamina to the test. Bin Suroor said: 'She ran a really good race in the Guineas and she came out of that well. To finish fourth in the Guineas on just her second run after winning her maiden was very good. 'This is her first run over a mile and half, but she should stay because she is nice and relaxed. 'I think Epsom will suit her, she's a nice size and if she settles in the first half of the race I think she'll stay. The further she goes the better I think. She's a very nice filly and I think she'll run well.' Aidan O'Brien has won the showpiece event 10 times and saddles a host of trial winners in search of number 11. Ryan Moore has plumped for Cheshire Oaks scorer Minnie Hauk from the Ballydoyle trio, as she bids to become the first filly since Enable to follow up success on the Roodee at Epsom. We knew it wouldn't be too demanding on her and she would have learned plenty. 'She's a lovely filly with a good nature, a good traveller and has a good stride to her. She shows plenty of pace in her work in her half-speeds.' The master of Ballydoyle will also be represented by Giselle and Whirl, who tuned up for duty with wins at Lingfield and in York's Musidora Stakes respectively. O'Brien continued: 'Giselle got very keen through the winter and spring and wanted to do too much so we didn't get to do an awful lot with her – it was all about relaxing her. 'If we were going to the Oaks she had to run and Lingfield was about the only place she could. She was probably very underdone fitness-wise in Lingfield, we were just hoping to get her started and go from there, so we were delighted with the way she won and she's come forward a lot since then we think. 'Whirl is a very straightforward filly and Ryan was very happy to make the running on her in York. A filly came up either side of her, but that was no problem to her, she's got a lovely mind and she got the mile and a quarter very well and looked like a filly that could get further.' Ralph Beckett has fond memories of the Oaks and having linked up with owner-breeder Julian Richmond-Watson when opening his Classic account with Look Here in 2008, the pair join forces again with Nottingham winner Revoir, who will attempt to reverse recent Newbury form with Ed Walker's Qilin Queen. Joseph O'Brien's Wemightakedlongway and John and Thady Gosden's Go Go Boots – representing American celebrity chef Bobby Flay – complete the field of nine.
