Deion Sanders Uplifts Shedeur's Spirits as Son Recovers From His Unexpected Draft Slide

Yahoo2 days ago

Deion Sanders has never backed down from defending his kids against anybody. Shedeur Sanders was the subject of many jokes after he went from being considered a future top-three pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to not even making it to the top 20 and falling all the way to the fifth round.
Sanders was selected with one of the teams originally projected to select him in the first round, the Cleveland Browns, but they did it with the No. 144 overall pick. After that, debates sparked about why the rookie quarterback had to wait way more than expected to hear his name called.

He's now focused on what's ahead with the Browns, a team with five quarterbacks on the roster. Sanders will likely have to compete against Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, Deshaun Watson and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel to become the starter.
Meanwhile, he's embracing the city and vowing to make the most out of this opportunity.

His father and former coach, Deion Sanders, has actively supported him before, during and after the draft process. Weeks after his shocking fifth-round slide, the two-time Super Bowl champion shared a strong message to lift Shedeur Sanders' spirits ahead of his first NFL season.

"Thank You JESUS! 'We can take whatever hand we're dealt. We always have & we always will," Deion Sanders captioned an Instagram post that featured a picture of Shedeur Sanders at practice with the Browns.

His NFL journey didn't have the best start, but Shedeur Sanders has been reminded that it doesn't matter how he starts, but what he does with the opportunity he's been given. The Browns aren't the best franchise for a quarterback, but Sanders could be the catalyst of a much-needed turnaround.
The 2025 season is still months away. Meanwhile, Sanders will have many chances to prove his value in the league.

New presidential portrait revealed by White House depicts somber Trump

In the latest presidential portrait revealed Monday by the White House, President Donald Trump is wearing a red tie and blue suit against a black backdrop. He stares at the camera with a serious gaze, in a similar vein to his notable mug shot from two years ago. The White House website and Trump's official Facebook account updated the pages with the new portrait, hung in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building next to the West Wing. The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on what prompted the change.

FEMA Head Reportedly Didn't Know US Has A Hurricane Season

David Richardson, the acting head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, told staffers he was unaware that the U.S. had a hurricane season, according to multiple reports, comments which could further raise concerns about the agency's preparedness in tackling natural disasters after the Trump administration's removal of its previous head. According to Reuters, which first reported the matter, the remarks caused confusion among FEMA staffers on whether Richardson was joking or was being serious. Citing three unnamed sources, the report added Richardson's comments reignited concerns about the Trump administration appointee's lack of experience with disaster responses. A spokesperson for the agency told various outlets that the comments were made as a joke and 'FEMA is laser focused on disaster response and protecting the American people.' Richardson held an all-hands meeting at the agency on Monday, where he said he would not be issuing a new disaster management plan for this year to avoid getting ahead of the Trump administration's FEMA Review Council. According to the New York Times, staffers have been advised to respond to hurricanes this year the same way they did in 2024's hurricane season, but this has raised concerns within the agency as it will be working with reduced staff. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., tweeted a screenshot of the Reuters report on his X account and wrote: 'And I'm unaware of why he hasn't been fired yet.' Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., the seniormost Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee, told Reuters: 'Suffice to say, disaster response is no joke. If you don't know what or when hurricane season is, you're not qualified to run FEMA. Get someone knowledgeable in there.'

Sunrise Spirits Will Bring Classic Mecha Toys To Western Fans

Sunrise Spirits is a new toy brand for classic mecha anime. Sunrise is responsible for most of the major mecha anime ever made, and Bandai Spirits is now looking to honor this legacy with a new toy brand. Heading up this new Sunrise Spirits initiative is Yoshinari Kimura, Assistant Manager on the Robot Product Planning Team at Bandai Spirits. Following the increased accessibility and popularity of Sunrise mecha anime outside of Japan, Kimura wanted to ensure that Western fans weren't left behind. 'Given that people can now easily discover and watch Sunrise titles through social media, the official YouTube channel, and an ever-increasing selection of streaming platforms, we felt it was important to build an accessible solution for fans to purchase Sunrise merchandise. Through this initiative, we wanted to create a 'three-dimensional portal' for fans, both new and old. Furthermore, we wanted to clarify where people were able to purchase our products and figure out what would be necessary for us to sell them on an ongoing basis. The Tamashii Nations store in New York is one of many outside Japan. 'After carefully analyzing the balance between supply and demand, we concluded that the best way forward was to sell products through our own stores and an official online shop. Finally, when thinking about how to present the lineup within our stores in an accessible manner, we settled on the project name: Sunrise Spirits. 'The purpose of Sunrise Spirits is to serve as an entry point for both new fans and those who already have fond memories of Sunrise titles, and to maintain our lineup as a permanent platform. Thanks to our fans' passionate support, we have already expanded our presence to eight stores in Japan and another eight official Tamashii Nations store locations overseas, including New York City.' 'We currently have seven products available for purchase, including five from 1980s-era series such as Dunbine, Dougram, and Xabungle (shown below), as well as Zegapain from the 2000s. In addition to developing this extensive lineup, we have also updated each product's key visuals to make them more appealing to a wider audience. The classic mecha Xabungle is also getting the Sunrise Spirits treatment. 'In addition, we also plan on adding Robot Spirits Villkiss from the 2010s anime Cross Ange to our lineup in 2025. There are numerous exciting animated series out there, so we plan to continue exploring product lineups that cater to different age groups while reviewing the status of existing items. 'We really want our overseas fans to enjoy the same purchasing experience and potential for discovery that are available to Japanese consumers. With characters becoming something of a global language these days, we feel it is important to offer both virtual and real-world entry points and touchpoints. 'In the years to come, we expect that continued internet and social media usage will result in decreased language barriers and a more border-free world. As manufacturers of physical goods, we believe it will be increasingly important for us to offer a platform where fans can purchase our products. Our goal is to create opportunities for consumers to experience, across numerous contexts, the reassurance of purchasing products on-demand directly from an official supplier. Additionally, with initiatives like the Sunrise Robot Laboratory, we can now explore new ways to present and share classic series. In 2025, Sunrise Spirits will feature products from both Walker Gallia and Xabungle. We look forward to people visiting our stores and checking out these exciting new releases for themselves. In the meantime, we hope fans will continue to enjoy and support our work.' Sunrise Spirits toy releases are currently available at the Tamashii Nations New York store as well as online via Amazon. Follow me on X, Facebook and YouTube. I also manage Mecha Damashii and am currently featured in the Giant Robots exhibition currently touring Japan.
