Tom Cruise and Dolly Parton among stars set to receive honorary Oscars
Thirty-five years after Tom Cruise received his first Oscar nomination, he's finally getting a trophy.
Cruise, choreographer Debbie Allen and Do The Right Thing production designer Wynn Thomas have all been selected to receive honorary Oscar statuettes at the annual Governors Awards, the film academy said.

Dolly Parton will also be recognised with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for her decades-long charitable work in literacy and education.

'This year's Governors Awards will celebrate four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact,' Academy president Janet Yang said in a statement.
Most recipients of the prize historically have not yet won a competitive Oscar themselves.
Cruise, 62, has been nominated four times, twice for best actor in Born on the Fourth of July and Jerry Maguire, once for supporting actor in Magnolia and once for best picture with Top Gun: Maverick.

He has also championed theatrical moviegoing and big-scale Hollywood production through the coronavirus pandemic.
Ms Yang spotlighted Cruise's 'incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community'
Parton has been nominated twice for best original song, for 9 to 5 and, in 2006, Travelin' Thru from the film Transamerica.

But her honour celebrates her humanitarian efforts over the years, through organisations like the Dollywood Foundation and the literary programme Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.

Ms Yang said Parton 'exemplifies the spirit' of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
The awards will be handed out during an untelevised ceremony on November 16 at the Ray Dolby Ballroom in Los Angeles.
Last year's recipients included the late Quincy Jones, Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson, filmmaker Richard Curtis and casting director Juliet Taylor.
Recipients of the prizes, which honour lifetime achievement, contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences and service to the academy are selected by the film academy's board of governors.

I think they continue to be great for each other.' 'And if Travis Kelce is all the way back, I think you immediately understand that the Chiefs are going to be where the Chiefs have been, and that's in title conversations.' HBO 's The White Lotus arguably one of the most acclaimed and culturally relevant TV shows of the last decade. The anthology series has not only been a commercial hit and lauded by critics, it's also been responsible for catapulting its cast to the top of Tinseltown. Veterans like Jennifer Coolidge and Parker Posey completely revived their careers thanks to the Mike White series, while international stars like Sabrina Impacciatore and Aimee Lou Wood used the show to crack Hollywood. So why aren't more A-listers clamoring for roles on The White Lotus? The main reason is the 'low' salary of just $40,000 per episode, which is given to each main character - regardless of how famous they are. One Hollywood agent who spoke to said that the salary is so low that most big name actors would actually lose money filming a season of the HBO show. 'Just say that the actor earns roughly $300,000 for the season, that's before taxes, then they have to pay their team, like their manager and agent,' the source said. 'They're not left with much in the end, then you have to factor in exactly how much money they're missing out on while shooting the show for months,' they continued. Season two of The White Lotus took six months to film, while season three took even longer at seven months. 'Not only are they on set for half the year, they're also on location in some random part of the world. Italy, Thailand... it's not like filming in Los Angeles where they can easily come and go to fulfill other commitments,' the agent said. 'I've had to advise some big clients not to do the show for these reasons. 'They could be taking home several million by doing a movie that might only take two or three months to shoot instead of spending six months doing The White Lotus for pennies,' they continued. Outside of acting projects, there's also the issue of missing out on lucrative brand deals. 'Every actor has commercial brand deals, it's where most of their money is made these days,' they explained. 'If I sign a client up to represent a major brand, I can't have them stuck on set in Thailand when there's promotional commitments in the US as part of their contract,' they added. However, the agent did say that things may be shifting as The White Lotus begins to benefit from more commercial tie-ins. 'The only exception is some of the big money brand deals that the cast are starting to pull in now,' they said. 'Parker Posey did a GAP campaign, Theo James is working with Dolce & Gabbana. 'There's certainly an argument to be made that The White Lotus can drive up a star's value for brands, but I still think this applies more to B-level talent,' they continued. 'A-listers can already command a huge fee, so I don't think that The White Lotus can boost their value enough to offset any losses from filming.' In April, it was revealed that three-time Oscar nominee Woody Harrelson had turned down the third season of The White Lotus. While the actor claimed that the filming schedule clashed with a family vacation, there was speculation that the real reason for knocking it back was due to the salary. Jason Isaacs, who appears in the third season of the HBO series as wealthy businessman Timothy Ratliff, revealed just how much he and his castmates were paid per episode. 'That's absolutely true,' he told Vulture, confirming that they earned $40,000 per episode. 'Generally actors don't talk about pay in public because it's ridiculously disproportionate to what we do — putting on makeup and funny voices — and just upsets the public,' he continued. 'But compared to what people normally get paid for big television shows, that's a very low price.' Still, Isaacs admitted he was just as excited as fellow cast members — like Patrick Schwarzenegger and Parker Posey — to join the buzz-worthy series. 'But the fact is, we would have paid to be in it. Scott Wolf's estranged wife was hauled off in handcuffs by police because she had threatened to kill herself at a swank Utah resort, newly-released 911 audio reveals. exclusively obtained the recording of Friday evening's phone call that led to Utah County Sheriff's deputies to haul Kelley Wolf, 48, off to the hospital following a serious 'mental health' incident. The 11 ½-minute call was made by an unidentified female friend who requested assistance at the Sundance Resort, citing concerns over Kelley's 'escalating mental health crisis' that she said had stretched over 'several weeks to months.' 'Last night she threatened to kill herself a couple times,' the panicked friend tells the dispatcher. 'I'm terrified she's gonna act on it.' The caller said Kelley's father had been on the phone with her while she made threats to take her own life, and had been trying to keep her on the line. She also noted that the mom-of-three had become increasingly paranoid and resistant to intervention when they tried to get her help in the past. 'She's been very skittish, very anti-getting help,' the caller said. 'I feel like she'll run or do not think she will cooperate.' 'She gets very upset that people think she's crazy and.... at times she's hopped on an airplane and left, and other times she's gotten in her car and left...' The woman described Kelley as 'blonde, 5ft. 5in, with very blonde hair, short like in a bob'. She also called her 'super-thin'. 'We have been trying to get her to get some help for weeks to months,' the caller said. 'She gets very upset if people thinks she's crazy.' She said there had been multiple 911 calls to the couple's home over recent months. Kelley, who announced her divorce to Party of Five actor husband Scott on June 10, captured the moment she was apprehended by police while filming herself on Instagram Live last Friday. According to the call, she had been staying at the resort, 45 miles away from the family's Park City home, since Wednesday. The caller notes that Kelley was believed to be staying at Sundance with her 11-year-old daughter at some point, but was alone at the time police were called for help. She also informs the dispatcher that there have been 'multiple 911 calls to her house in Summit County over the last month'. At several points, the caller can be heard attempting to coordinate with Kelley's father in real time to provide details to police, even relaying to the dispatcher: 'he says she's hysterical, send help'. Moments later she passes on another message from her father saying: 'if she finds out [about police] she will run.' When asked if Kelley has access to any weapons or firearms, the friend says no, but expressed concern about her mental state and potential use of other means. 'I don't think she does, but she's crafty so maybe...' she says. As the dispatcher confirms that deputies are on the way, the friend informs her of another incident that occurred at the resort's restaurant the previous day. 'She threw herself on the ground and was saying, "He's abusing me",' the caller says, referencing what appeared to be an incident witnessed by resort security and other guests. 'Security got involved, and she threatened to call 911.' Authorities later confirmed that Kelley was taken to Utah Valley Hospital in Provo on Friday, but only vaguely citing her 'concerning comments to a family member'. It is unclear what Kelley meant by 'abuse.' She later posted an Instagram story of her personal effects laid out in front of her, including a handbag, a Gatorade bottle and a baseball cap. 'This is horrible. I have been taken against my will. Please check in on my kids. Also... I am happy!! Happier than I have ever been,' she wrote. The rep added: 'So that's what happened today: she was placed in hand restraints, placed into a vehicle, and transported by our deputies to a hospital.' The couple is yet to address the incident and specific details of their split, though their marriage appeared to be going strong as of February, when Wolf had gushed about his 'forever Valentine' on social media.
