Vikings, OC Wes Phillips agree to contract extension
The Minnesota Vikings will keep Wes Phillips as their offensive coordinator for a little while longer. The Pittsburgh Steelers are hoping their going to get the best quarterback play they've had since Ben Roethlisberger from Aaron Rodgers this season. Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth thinks that's exactly what they're going to get. Advertisement 'I think he's similar to Ben in a way where like he's gonna trust you to where you're gonna be, and he's gonna throw you open,' Freiermuth said on the latest episode of 'Not Just Football with Cam Heyward.' 'Aaron, I can see on film where he's expecting you to be somewhere, and if he trusts you, he's gonna throw it to that spot and go let you make a play. I think that is what I've noticed a lot on film.' It's not often players can compared someone else to a two-time Super Bowl champion and six-time Pro Bowler like Roethlisberger. But Freiermuth is fortunate to be able to now suiting up with a four-time NFL MVP in Rodgers. The 41-year-old's best football is likely behind him. 'He sees the game in a certain way,' Freiermuth said. 'If we can get on that same page to seeing where he sees the defenses and where he wants the routes to go and the ball placement and stuff, the quicker we can do that, the quicker the offense is gonna go.' Former NFL offensive lineman and current analyst Ross Tucker weighed in on the Pittsburgh Steelers' signing of four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Tucker believes the Steelers are hoping for a Brett Favre-like 2009 season from Rodgers. Favre, who at age 40, passed for 4,202 yards, 33 touchdown and seven interceptions in 2009. He also had a career-best 107.2 quarterback rating. Favre led Minnesota to the NFC Championship, coming up just short 31-28 against the New Orleans Saints. Advertisement 'Here what I will say about Aaron Rodgers, a couple thoughts. I believe the Steelers are hoping that he has his Brett Favre Vikings season in Pittsburgh this year. Remember when it was just OK for Favre with the Jets. Then he goes to the Vikings and in that first year he was awesome. 'If the only argument is that the Steelers feel like Aaron Rodgers gives them their best chance to win, win a playoff game, maybe even go on a run. You want to try to have the best season you can in 2025. And that part of it, I very much respect.' In fact, the Steelers' Super Bowl odds went unchanged at BETMGM (+4500). The Steelers (22-1) have the eighth-best odds to win the AFC and third-best odds (+600) to win the AFC North. First, it was expected that Rodgers was going to sign with Pittsburgh (eventually). It really wasn't a secret. Second, at 41 years of age, how much of an impact will Rodgers have on the Steelers' season? He's an upgrade from Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, but he does not elevate the Steelers into the Super Bowl contenders category. Despite narratives that Rodgers is washed, it's hard to dispute that he's not the best quarterback the Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. Since 2022, Rodgers has 54 passing touchdowns. In that same time frame, the Steelers have had only 46 touchdown passes. Rodgers also had only one pass attempt in 2023 before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.
