WNBA Team's Four-Word Message on Cutting Former Top-10 Pick Days Before First Game
There are a lot of talented players looking for new homes with the final WNBA roster cuts being made in recent days. With the WNBA season tipping off on Friday, teams are finalizing their roster, but there have been a few surprises.
The Atlanta Dream moved on from the team's former starter and top-10 pick. Another notable move came from the Golden State Valkyries as Laeticia Amihere was released after scoring 20 points in her last preseason outing.

Atlanta looks a lot different in 2025 after the additions of Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones. Unfortunately, these additions led to some surprising roster moves with limited spots remaining on the Dream.

The Dream announced the team released Haley Jones on Wednesday, just two days before the franchise tips off the regular season against the Washington Mystics. Atlanta posted a tribute video to Jones after announcing the unfortunate news.
"Thank you for everything @haleyjoness13," the Dream's official X account posted on Wednesday.
The move comes two years after Atlanta used the No. 6 overall pick to select Jones in the 2023 WNBA draft. Jones entered The W with an impressive resume from her time with the Stanford Cardinal.
The standout guard was part of the team's NCAA championship run during the 2020-21 season. Jones was a 3-time All-Pac-12 member, 2-time AP All-American and 2-time NCAA All-Tourney team player.

The former Dream guard played in 40 games for Atlanta in 2024, including 24 starts. Jones averaged 3.9 points, 2.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game last season.
It would be a surprise if Jones does not find a new WNBA team quickly.

Clark and Hull have become close friends since the Fever selected Clark with the No. 1 overall pick of the WNBA Draft in 2024. Hull's numbers have improved since Clark joined the team. She was averaging 4.6 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game in 2023. When Clark joined in 2024, Hull improved her averages to 5.5 points per game and she earned 6th Player of the Year votes. Hull is off to a hot start in her first seven games of 2025. She's averaging 10.4 points, 4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Her field-goal percentage jumped from 44.1% last year to 54.5% this year. Clark's injury has definitely hampered the Fever's ability to win games. Indiana is 3-4 to start the season. His name was soon cleared by authorities, who charged and convicted Ohtani's interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara, in federal court with surreptitiously stealing more than $17 million from the Dodgers superstar to pay off an Orange County bookmaker. American tennis star Coco Gauff reaches French Open final
Coco Gauff will get a second chance to win the French Open this weekend. Gauff, 21, defeated Loïs Boisson 6-1, 6-2 in the semifinals Thursday, propelling her to the second French Open final of her career so far. The American tennis star, ranked No. 2 at Roland Garros, will face the No. 1 seed Aryna Sabalenka in the women's final on Saturday in Paris. The match on Saturday will be only the second No. 1 vs. No. 2 women's final at the French Open in the past 30 years, according to ESPN. The faceoff between Gauff and Sabalenka will be a Grand Slam final rematch for the pair. The two faced off in the 2023 U.S. Open final, which Gauff won to earn her first Grand Slam title at age 19. Saturday's final will be the third Grand Slam final of Gauff's career. She was the runner-up to Iga Swiatek at Roland Garros in 2022. Sabalenka defeated Swiatek 7-6 (1), 4-6, 6-0 in the semifinals at this year's tournament. Last summer at Roland Garros, Gauff made history during the 2024 Olympics, becoming the youngest American woman to win a singles match at the Olympics since Venus Williams in 2000, according to ESPN.
