Crawfish prices in Louisiana hit lowest levels of 2025 season
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Thanks to an increase in crawfish supply, prices have gone down in Louisiana! Average prices are the lowest so far in the 2025 crawfish season, The Crawfish App reported Friday.
'There was a quarter per pound drop at the crawfish docks this week, and retailers responded with an exact $.25 cents per pound drop at the consumer level,' Laney King, co-founder of The Crawfish App, said.
How much you could pay this weekend:
$3.64 per pound for live crawfish
$6.08 per pound for boiled crawfish
'The start of April marks the historical true start of the heart of crawfish season — weather is mild, crawfish are plentiful and a good size, and prices typically continue to come down, at least until Easter weekend!' King said.
This makes two weeks in a row that crawfish prices have gone down in the state.

This potential new menu addition tweaks the original cold foam by adding banana flavor and protein powder, which contains around 15 grams of protein per serving. This is not the first time Starbucks (SBUX) has introduced protein to its menu. In 2018, it launched the Protein Blended Cold Brew in Almond and Cocoa flavors, which blended cold brew, almond milk, plant-based protein, almond butter, banana date fruit blend, and ice to create the beverage. At the Las vegas event, the coffee giant also introduced the Starting 5, a new program in which five stores will be chosen to test potential new menu items before rolling them out across all locations nationwide. This program is part of the "Back to Starbucks" strategy, in which the company aims to revamp its menu by "reimagining and modernizing its beverages and food to build a relevant, hype-worthy global menu that will resonate with customers," as stated in a press release. The coffee chain has also been working overtime to test new food menu items currently under development. These include a new Butter Croissant, Raspberry Croissant, and Double Chocolate Cookie. Starbucks has not announced an official day for when the tested menu items will hit stores nationwide, but it has been making changes quickly, so if successful, these innovations could launch very soon. The chain's "Back to Starbucks" turnaround strategy aims to improve customers' overall experience by redesigning stores, optimizing efficiency, prioritizing coffee quality, simplifying its menu, and empowering its baristas. The coffee giant recently began simplifying its menu by reducing customization options and eliminating extra charges for milk alternatives. Group of Seven leaders, including President Trump, will gather in Canada on Sunday. The big picture: The meeting will take place on the heels of Israel's attack on Iran, while the U.S. faces deepening divides with other allies over Gaza, Ukraine and his sweeping tariffs, especially the one between the U.S. and Canada. When and where is the 2025 G7 summit? The 51st summit will take place from Sunday to Tuesday in Alberta, Canada. It will be held in the remote resort town of Kananaskis, which previously hosted a G8 summit in 2002. Who will attend the G7 summit? The G7 includes leaders from the United States, Canada, France, Italy, Japan, Germany and Britain. The European Union is typically also in attendance, along with other heads of state who aren't a part of the Group of Seven but were invited by Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has confirmed he'll be there, with a meeting expected between him and Trump months after their last in-person meeting during Pope Francis' funeral. Emergency officials in New Jersey confirmed that firefighters have contained 40% of the state's wildfire in the Wharton State Forest on Saturday. The Mines Spung Wildfire, first reported by a private pilot on June 13, has burned approximately 4,200 acres, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service. Firefighters were "making progress" in containing the blaze in Shamong Township, New Jersey, deploying fire engines, helicopters, bulldozers and ground, according to the state service. The cause of the fire, which has threatened five structures, is under investigation. "The fire has got some serious burning going on right now and with that, we're having a hard time to control it," the state fire service's Chief Bill Donnelly told reporters during a press conference. The smell of smoke was reported in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware Friday evening, going into the weekend, according to CBS station KYW-TV. Evacuations prompted The blaze prompted several evacuations, including Shamong's Costello Preparatory Academy, a state-run community home for males with a history of substance abuse. Authorities also evacuated the Lower Forge campground in Washington Township, closed roads in Shamong and closed the part of South Jersey's Batona Trail to hikers. The service is expected to provide another update Saturday at around 2:30 p.m. local time. Wildfire burns near monument honoring Mexican aviator The Mines Spung Wildfire was burning near the Carranza Memorial in Tabernacle, New Jersey. The 12-foot stone monument honors Emilio Carranza Rodriguez, a Mexican aviator who died in a crash at the Pinelands site in 1928, the New Jersey State Park Service website states. The acclaimed captain from Coahuila, Mexico, became widely known in the summer of 1928 after an emergency landing in New Jersey during a flight from Mexico City to Washington, D.C. He later died during a thunderstorm while flying from New York City to Mexico, according to the New Jersey State Park Service. The site of the fatal crash is where the Carranza Memorial stands.
