Lip reader reveals what French President Emmanuel Macron's wife Brigitte said moments after shoving him in the face

New York Post28-05-2025

French President Emmanuel Macron's wife delivered a scathing four-word remark just moments after shoving him in the face, a lip reader has revealed.
Shocking footage showed Brigitte Macron, 72, place both hands on her husband's face before shoving him firmly just moments after the president's plane door opened upon arrival in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, on Sunday evening.
While the embarrassed-looking leader claimed the pair were 'squabbling,' a professional lip reader has since decoded the shocking exchange.

'As the aircraft door opens, President Macron is seen turning toward Brigitte. In an unexpected moment, she pushes him in the face,' a lip reader told The Express.
After the door opened and Macron noticed that the cameras were on him, he then said 'Hi' before raising his hand.

'Emmanuel then steps closer to Brigitte before composing himself and crossing to the other side. Moments later, he signals for her to follow him with, 'Let's go,'' the lip reader said.
'He thanks the pilot and waves at the cameras, trying to recover the public-facing image.'

'But at the top of the stairs, things turn icy again. He offers his arm; she ignores it, clinging to the railing instead. As she passes, she appears to mutter, 'Dégage, espèce de loser,' translated in English, 'Stay away, you loser.''

Moments later, the lip reader claims Macron said, 'Essayons, s'il te plaît' — which translated to, 'Let's try, please?'
She then responds, 'Non.'
'His closing expression, and the phrase lipread as 'Je vois,' translated in english 'I see' says it all,' the lip reader went on.

'Hot Take: A rare unguarded exchange that hints at deeper tensions between the couple. One to watch, especially with a packed diplomatic schedule ahead.'
Immediately after the shove, Macron, 47, appears startled — but quickly recovers when realizing he is in the public's view.
Brigitte then didn't take her husband's proffered arm when making her way down the staircase, where Vietnamese officials greeted them.

The president has since tried to downplay the ordeal.
'We are squabbling and, rather, joking with my wife,' Macron said Monday, adding that the incident was being overblown into 'a sort of geo-planetary catastrophe' by his enemies.

'People are saying all sorts of nonsense. Everyone needs to calm down,' he added.
The duo, who have been married since 2007, first met in 1993 when Brigitte was a 39-year-old high school teacher and Emmanuel was her 15-year-old student and a classmate of her daughter.

4 killed in Kyiv after a Russian missile and drone attack across Ukraine, mayor says

A Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv early Friday killed at least four people and injured 20 others, city mayor Vitali Klitschko said, as air raid sirens rang out during a wider combined attack across Ukraine. Klitschko said search and rescue operations were underway at several locations. Multiple explosions were heard in the capital, Kyiv, where falling debris sparked fires across several districts as air defense systems attempted to intercept incoming targets, said Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Administration. 4 The destruction inside a home after a Russian missile strike on Kyiv on June 6, 2025. Authorities reported damage in several districts, and rescue workers were responding at multiple locations. They urged residents to seek shelter. In Solomyanskyi district, a fire broke out on the 11th floor of a 16-story residential building. Emergency services evacuated three people from the apartment, and rescue operations were ongoing. Another fire broke out in a metal warehouse. 4 Firefighters douse water on a building struck by a Russian drone attack in Kyiv. In northern Chernihiv region, a Shahed drone exploded near an apartment building, shattering windows and doors, according to regional military administration chief Dmytro Bryzhynskyi. He added that explosions from ballistic missiles were also recorded on the outskirts of the city. 4 A large hole was left in an apartment building during the early Friday attack. Trump spoke as he met with Germany's new chancellor, Friedrich Merz, who appealed to him as the 'key person in the world' who could halt the bloodshed by pressuring Russian President Vladimir Putin.

‘Vast Majority' of new homes will have solar panels, says Miliband

Builders could be required to install solar panels on the 'vast majority' of new homes in England, according to Energy Secretary Ed Miliband. It comes a month after Downing Street confirmed the panels should be installed on as many new properties as possible amid speculation that ministers will make them a mandatory requirement on new builds by 2027. Speaking to the BBC, Mr Miliband described the proposed policy as 'just common sense' and said the panels should be 'almost universal' on English homes. Changes to regulations will be laid out in the Future Homes Standard, due to be published later this year. The previous Conservative Government considered a proposal that would have mandated rooftop solar panels to cover 40% of a building's ground area or equivalent. 'The problem about the previous system was that it said you would had to have a certain percentage of coverage of solar panels, but if you couldn't achieve that percentage, you didn't have to do anything at all,' Mr Miliband said. 'Under our plans, we are not going to say that. We are going to say even if you can't hit 40% you will still have to have some solar panels, except in rare, exceptional cases.' He added that the number of homes fitted with solar panels needed to be 'much higher'. The policy is estimated to add between £3,000 and £4,000 to the cost of construction, but to then save owners more than £1,000 on their annual energy bills, according to the Times, which first reported the change. Asked in May whether housebuilders would be legally required to fit the panels, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's official spokesman said: 'Of course we want to see solar panels on as many new homes as possible. 'The Future Homes Standard, which will be published in the coming months, will include measures to drive this, we're working on the detail of that and will provide an update on that in due course. 'But it's good news for householders who want lower energy bills.' Under the Government's new proposals, 80% of new builds would reportedly be required to have solar panels covering 40% of their ground area, while 19% would have slightly fewer because of exemptions, including roof pitch and overshading. Ministers last year rejected a private members' Bill aiming to force housebuilders to install solar panels on the roof of every new home, saying the proposals would potentially slow down construction and add to building manifesto included a pledge to build 1.5 million new homes over the course of the Parliament.

Digitally altered photo misleads on Trump's response to South Korea presidential election

"As soon as [Lee Jae-myung] was inaugurated as president, 'Yoon Again' was spotted on Trump's cellphone," reads part of a Korean-language Facebook post shared on June 5. "It means President Yoon is still the only leader Trump accepts." A photo attached to the post appears to show US President Donald Trump holding up a phone with "Yoon Again" displayed on its screen; the slogan was adopted by impeached president Yoon Suk Yeol's supporters who believe his removal from office was illegitimate (archived link). The posts were shared a day after Lee won South Korea's snap presidential election by a large margin, ending months of political unrest triggered by Yoon's imposition of martial law and subsequent impeachment (archived link). The same doctored image and claim were widely circulated in Facebook groups backing Yoon and other conservative figures in South Korea, as well as on far-right forum Ilbe. "President Trump will correct the results of South Korea's presidential election as he seems to have watched it closely," read a comment on one of the posts. Another said: "Trump is the only ally to President Yoon still standing, let's put our trust in him." As of June 6, Trump had not called the new South Korean president, with analysts saying any further delay may signal reluctance on the US president's part to engage with the new leader (archived link). The circulating image, however, has been altered. A keyword search found the circulating image was altered from a photo taken by AFP photographer Saul Loeb on May 30 at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, as Trump disembarked from Air Force One. Trump's phone lock screen in fact shows a picture of the president pointing forwards, not a message of support for Yoon. The date displayed on the phone screen also reads "May 30" -- four days before South Korea's presidential election. According to reports by MSNBC and Euronews, the image of Trump's phone screen was widely discussed on social media, with his supporters praising the president and his critics calling him "self-absorbed" (archived here and here). Another photo taken by Loeb also shows Trump's phone screen did not display a message of support for Yoon. AFP has debunked multiple false claims about Trump's supposed opinion on South Korea's impeached president.
