A Lucknow Police sub-inspector who rode through a busy city crossing on a motorcycle boldly displaying 'Khaki' in place of a number plate was fined ₹ 5,000, after a photo of the violation went viral, officials confirmed on Monday. The viral photo of the cop inviting challan action (Sourced)
The cop, identified as Mahendra Pratap Singh Baghel, was photographed in full uniform at Hazratganj crossing. The image triggered sharp reactions online over alleged misuse of authority and blatant disregard for the law.
The Secretariat police outpost in-charge, Bagesh Sharma, under Hazratganj Police Station limits, issued a challan under relevant sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, station house officer (SHO) Hazratganj Vikram Singh told HT. 'The officer was violating norms. Wearing a uniform does not exempt anyone from the law. If required, departmental action will also be taken.'
The incident comes amid a citywide crackdown on vehicles with tampered or missing number plates.
Ironically, police officials said the sub-inspector had previously delivered lectures on road safety and traffic discipline. 'Public servants should lead by example, not flout the law,' a senior traffic officer said.

An inquiry report submitted by State Police Chief (SPC) Shaik Darvesh Saheb to the State government has reportedly made serious observations against Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) M.R. Ajith Kumar, citing lapses in handling the disruptions that marred the iconic Thrissur Pooram festival last year. The government had instituted a multi-tiered probe into the controversy, which is widely believed to have dealt a political blow to ruling Left Democratic Front dispensation, particularly with the Lok Sabha elections imminent at the time. Various quarters, including the Communist Party of India, firmly believed that the mishandling of the festival had contributed significantly to the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) surprise victory in the Thrissur constituency. The SPC is learnt to have flagged various lapses on the part of Mr. Kumar, who was tasked with overseeing security during the festival. He allegedly ignored key warnings and failed to intervene even after receiving direct calls from Revenue Minister K. Rajan, who had flagged a brewing conflict between the Thrissur City police and representatives of the Thiruvambady Devaswom. The disruption at the festival triggered widespread public outrage. The festival procession was blocked, devotees were baton-charged, and barricades shut down access to major parts of the city. Even mahouts and others were forcibly removed, causing the traditional 'Ezhunnallippu' (ceremonial procession) and percussion performances to be halted midway.

Magisterial inquiry serves notice to former Police Commissioner Dayananda in stampede case
Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha, heading the magisterial inquiry into the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium during celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) team winning IPL-2025 on June 4, issued a notice on Monday to the former Police Commissioner B. Dayananda to appear before the probe. Mr. Dayananda is learnt to have sought more time to appear before the inquiry. The magisterial inquiry that began by questioning victims in the stampede, has till date questioned and recorded statements of over 40 police personnel, including senior police officials of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) who were deployed for security cover at the Stadium when the stampede broke out. Finally, the inquiry has begun against the five officers, from inspector of Cubbon Park Police to the city Police Commissioner whom the State government held responsible for the stampede and suspended on June 6. The inquiry has questioned and recorded the statements of A.V. Girish, who was inspector of Cubbon Park Police Station on Monday and Assistant Commissioner of Police C. Balakrishna on Saturday. The inquiry of the three IPS officers - Deputy Commissioner of Police Shekhar H.T., Additional Commissioner Vikash Kumar Vikash and former Police Commissioner B. Dayananda is pending. Sources said Mr. Dayananda is likely to appear before the inquiry and record his statement in the end after the inquiry of all other officers is completed. Meanwhile, the one man judicial inquiry led by former High Court of Karnataka judge Micheal D'Cunha has also begun its inquiry and has recorded statements of several police officers, including those who were present at the spot of the stampede on June 4.

Annamayya SP cautions public against cybercrimes
The Annamayya district police on Monday issued an advisory on the growing menace of cyberfraud and reiterated its commitment to timely grievance redressal. Speaking to the media here, Superintendent of Police V. Vidyasagar Naidu cautioned the public against cyberfraudsters who adopt highly deceptive strategies such as fake lottery messages, fraudulent links, and unsolicited APK files to dup people. The SP urged the public to remain vigilant, and doubly cautious on suspicious links and downloading unknown apps. He further asked them to not share sensitive information on social media platforms, besides guarding important details such as bank account details, ATM PINs, or OTPs. He advised them to reach out to the police or call the national cyber helpline at 1930 for help. Meanwhile, Additional SP (Administration) M. Venkatadri on Monday led the 'Public Grievance Redressal Platform' here at the district police office. The Additional SP instructed the police officials at the mandal and district level to focus on addressing the grievances of women, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Mr. Venkatadri urged the public who are unable to visit district headquarters to file complaints to approach the local police stations or offices of the Deputy SPs.
