Confident Vipers look to thwart formidable Capitals' juggernaut in blockbuster ILT20 Season 3 final

Dubai Capitals will look to continue their winning streak against Desert Vipers in the much-anticipated final of the ILt20 to lay down their hands on the glittering trophy.
It is expected to be a high-octane game as both the teams have met twice in the league stages and once in the knockouts and the Capitals have emerged winners every time.
While Vipers will look to break the jinx and lift the trophy. Irrespective of the fact whoever wins the final, the ILT20 will see a new champion. In the first seasons, Gulf Giants and MI Emirates were the winners.
Despite dominating the round-robin stage and winning six of the first seven matches, Viper have been defeated by Capitals thrice in the tournament.
Out of their four losses in 12 games, Vipers were defeated by their final opponents three times and once by Sharjah Warriors. Vipers were in blistering form right from the beginning and went on to become the first team to book a berth in the knockout stage while Capitals started slowly but they peaked at the right time.
Capitals morale must be high as they are coming into the match on the back of three consecutive wins – two of them coming against the Vipers, one in their last round robin match and the other in the first qualifier. Capitals defeated Vipers by five wickets in the first qualifier by five wickets and by nine wickets in their last round-robin match.
Moreover, Vipers suffered a huge blow, as they will be playing without their skipper Lockie Ferguson, who is nursing a hamstring injury. He could not bowl the delivery in the first qualifier and Mohammad Amir was called to complete the over. He did not play in the second qualifier against Sharjah Warrioz also.
But Ferguson exuded confidence in his players, saying there is enough depth in the team that they can still win the match without him.
'I just felt a little pain in my hamstring. It is very unfortunate that I will not be able to play tomorrow. I will be very much supporting from the sideline,' Ferguson was quoted as saying in a podcast interview to the Vipers.
'But with the depth we have got in the squad you could see how well-balanced we were in the game against Warrior. I am sure the boys will not miss me too much.
'It was an exceptional game, a true team performance. I thought Dan Lawrence took the game away from Warriroz. Everyone played their part in that win, which is something I think the Vipers very much pride ourselves on,' he added.
Ferguson played down the talks of any kind of pressure because of three consecutive losses against the Capitals.
'We had a very close game against the Capitals in the first qualifier but tomorrow. It went down to the wire and the result came off the last ball.
'It is final tomorrow. We both start on zero. Our focus is on the final and we are not thinking about the past games. It is an exciting time for players to step up for their teams. There is always pressure in a final, it's a big opportunity and pressure comes with opportunity,' he concluded.
Alex Hales has led the Vipers' charge with the bat, scoring three half-centuries and piling up 400 runs in 12 matches. His team-mate Sam Curran has 325 runs to his name in 12 innings.
Wanindu Hasaranga, Amir and Ferguson are the other players who have been the star performers for Vipers. Hasaranga and Amir both have picked 12 wickets each to be followed by Ferguson with 11 scalps.
Meanwhile, Sam Billing, the skipper of Capitals, said that the players are very excited and looking forward to the final in anticipation.
"The atmosphere in the dressing room is positive ahead of the title showdown. The morale of the players is high as we have had a good run in the last few matches.
'We are playing as a team. We are depending on stars. Different players have stepped up in the different matches for us throughout the competition.
'No doubt, there have been a few players who have been performers like Shai Hope and Gulbadin Naib. So, we are looking forward to tomorrow's match.
Naib has been their star player, scoring a massive 376 runs and taking 11 wickets. He smashed three half-centuries in his last three matches against the Vipers.
Billings was all praise for Naib as he summed it up, 'He has been fantastic. He is a three-dimensional cricketer, who is grabbing every opportunity with both hands. Hopefully tomorrow he can put on a show for the fans.'
Shai Hope is the second-highest scorer in the league with 484 runs in 11 innings at an average of 60.50. He is nine runs behind MI Emirates' Tom Banton.

Kuwait hope ILT20 link up will mark ‘momentous' shift in cricket landscape in the region

When the DP World International League T20 first mooted plans to expand its footprint around the region, the likely destinations seemed obvious. There is already a scenic, well-appointed cricket venue in Muscat, where Oman have one-day international status. Saudi Arabia, too, has big plans for the sport, and a rapidly growing expat community of cricket lovers, albeit without a stadium with grass as yet. Doha has an international cricket venue that has hosted star names of the international game in the past. It also has a ready audience of fans, particularly from South Asia. Instead, the UAE franchise competition's first link up is with a country whose entire programme has to schedule playing time on its one grass cricket facility. Last week, the ILT20 announced an agreement with Kuwait Cricket. It said it will organise matches in the country which will be aimed at identifying and developing players. That includes plans to stage a development tournament similar to the one in Dubai which helps the six ILT20 franchises select local players for their squads. The organisers also stated that, 'in the coming years, the league will also aim to host ILT20 matches in Kuwait'. 'Kuwait is very important to us; it is a great country and keen on promoting and further developing cricket,' Khalid Al Zarooni, the chairman of the ILT20, said. 'Kuwait and the rest of the Gulf countries are all one. [Cricket playing] communities are residing throughout the region and our aim with the DP World ILT20 is to grow and develop the game in the entire region.' The link up is an acknowledgement for the strides the country has made in the sport. Imperceptibly, Kuwait have been making a mark in the game in recent times. They have reached number 23 in the T20I world standings. That is the third best of any side in the Gulf region, behind the two most established sides – the UAE and Oman. It also puts them above sides like Hong Kong, Kenya and Bermuda, who have held ODI status in the past. Last winter, they fell two runs short of what would have been a statement win, when they lost to the UAE in the final of the Gulf T20I Championship at Dubai International Stadium. Frustrated as they were by failing to close out what would have been their biggest success to date, coach Qasim Ali said that game was a sign of the progress they are making. 'It would've been great for the lads and great for the country because UAE are a powerhouse in the GCC,' Qasim said. 'To beat them in their own backyard in their stadium, which the lads have never played in, would've been a momentous achievement for our side. 'Obviously, it was a little bit personal for me as well, but that comes secondary in terms of what we're trying to achieve. It would've been brilliant, but I think UAE have realised that we've gone up a few gears as well.' It was 'personal' for Qasim because he has a strong affinity with UAE cricket himself. He helped develop a number of the leading players in the country in his former role at head coach at the ICC Academy in Dubai, and remains a resident of the city. Over the past 18 months he has helped push Kuwaiti cricket forward. Now he believes the link up with the ILT20 can help fast forward the progress. 'Without a shadow doubt, this is a huge moment in the landscape of GCC cricket,' he said. 'This is fantastic for Kuwait Cricket, and everybody associated with Kuwait, past, present and future. 'It really sets the milestone for where we are headed strategically, to partner with ILT20. It allows our players to come and demonstrate their skills in a professional franchise environment, which none of our lads have been involved in. 'To have a development programme in Kuwait itself, backed by ILT20, is a huge achievement. We cannot overstate how important this will be for our players locally.' The coach said the partnership is the result of 'a lot of hard work' by Kuwait Cricket's president Haider Farman and secretary general Sajid Ashraf. 'It opens the door to a long-awaited dream: enabling our Kuwait players to pursue full-time professional cricket careers on the international franchise stage,' Ashraf said. Ashraf hopes it will help drive investment, saying there is a cricket-loving community of two million people in Kuwait, in a country of five million. 'This initiative provides a unique opportunity for Kuwaiti brands to expand their footprint regionally, starting with the UAE,' Ashraf said. 'We are deeply passionate about our Kuwaiti businesses becoming an integral part of both [Kuwait Cricket] and the DP World ILT20. 'These well-established corporations in Kuwait have so much to offer in supporting the continued growth of cricket across the region.' While the facilities for the sport in Kuwait are some way behind the UAE and Oman at present, Qasim is hopeful they will see ILT20 matches there at some point soon. 'It would be fantastic for our fan base, players, administrators, local businesses to see some of the best stars coming over to Kuwait,' the coach said. 'We're a little way off from that, but I would love to see that sooner rather than later. Obviously there are other countries in the region who've probably got a ready-made set-up. 'If we could get something in Kuwait to back up the development programme, and some of our players going into the auction and being picked by the franchises, maybe some of the coaches, that would be a big success for us.'

ILT20 Season 4 to commence on UAE National Day

Season 4 of the DP World International League T20 will kick off on Tuesday, December 2, coinciding with the UAE's National Day (Eid Al Etihad) celebrations. The 34-match cricket tournament, featuring six teams, has been moved from its traditional January-February slot to a new window — from December 2 to January 4, 2026 — to avoid a clash with the ICC Men's T20 World Cup scheduled for February-March. Chairman of the ILT20 and Vice-Chairman of the Emirates Cricket Board, Khalid Al Zarooni, says launching the league on National Day is a tribute to the UAE and its diverse cricket-loving population. The DP World ILT20 has quickly become the Gulf region's biggest T20 league, attracting international stars like David Warner, Andre Russell, Sam Curran and Sunil Narine. Season 3 ended in a dramatic final, with the Dubai Capitals claiming the title in a last-over thriller against the Desert Vipers at a packed Dubai International Stadium. Organisers say Season 4 promises to be even bigger, with more global talent and strong fan engagement.
