Teacher recruitment exam aspirants protest near Bihar CM's residence; police resort to lathi-charge
Patna, Chaos erupted near the official residence of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in Patna on Tuesday when police baton-charged aspirants who had staged a sit-in demanding the release of supplementary results of a teacher recruitment exam.
The demonstrators, demanding the release of the Teacher Recruitment Exam supplementary result, staged the demonstration outside the gates of the CM's residence on 1 Anne Marg. The entire area is a high-security zone and no such protest is allowed.
A large number of protesters, carrying placards, raised slogans against the state government and the Bihar Public Service Commission , which conducted the exam.
Anu Kumari, Sub-Divisional Police Officer , Sachiwalay-1, requested the protesters to immediately vacate the area as such activities are restricted there.
When the protesters refused to budge, police resorted to baton-charge to disperse the aspirants. The SDPO, however, refused to speak to reporters.
Protesters claimed that several persons were injured in the baton-charge, which the officials denied.
One of the protesting candidates, Kriti Dutta, said they have been protesting in Gardanibagh area for the last four months.
"We have approached everybody, from ministers to secretaries and MLAs but none provided us with any solution," she said.
Another candidate said that the education minister had assured them that a letter had been sent to BPSC regarding the issue but nothing has been done so far.
Despite repeated attempts, neither Patna District Magistrate Chandrashekhar Singh nor Senior Superintendent of Police Awakash Kumar were available for their comments on the incident and how the protesters managed to enter the high-security zone.
BPSC conducted the teacher recruitment exam in March 2024 and a total of 87,774 posts were announced under TRE-3. However, only around 51,000 candidates have received appointment letters so far. The authorities had earlier promised a supplementary result, but nothing has happened so far.

Bihar sanctions compensation, pension for family of Dalit minor rape victim
The Bihar government on Thursday (June 5, 2025) sanctioned compensation of ₹8.25 lakh under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, to the family members of the 11-year-old Dalit girl who was raped and brutally assaulted with a knife, and later succumbed to her injuries at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) on June 1. The State also announced a monthly pension of ₹7,700 for the victim's family, in addition to the allotment of a house under the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana. According to officials, the girl, who was transferred from Muzaffarpur, had to wait in an ambulance for nearly five hours before being admitted to PMCH, as a bed was not allotted promptly. 'There is a provision under the SC/ST Atrocities Act that if any murder of an SC/ST person takes place, then a compensation of ₹8.25 lakh is given. According to the police, the minor was raped and found with around 20 knife wounds on and around her neck in a pit at a brick kiln in Muzaffarpur on May 26. The accused was arrested the same evening. Union Minister and ruling party leader Chirag Paswan wrote to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday, calling the incident 'a failure of the state's law and order and public health infrastructure', and demanded strict action against those responsible. Former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party president Mayawati also criticised the State government, describing the incident as evidence of Bihar's poor law and health systems. Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday (June 5, 2025) said India has shown the world that terrorism will no longer be tolerated and that the nation's rise is now "unstoppable, incremental and full of possibilities". Addressing students at Sainik School Chittorgarh — his alma mater — on the occasion of his visit, Mr. Dhankhar said, "Enough is enough! No more tolerance of terrorism. Those who will commit barbarity, use terrorism as a weapon, will be taught the lesson of their life like Bahawalpur and Muridke." Citing India's recent military operations, he said, "Operation Sindoor did not target civilians, did not wantonly destroy property. Only the terrorist hideouts were targeted. Precise, calibrated, accurate and we all had the occasion to see it." Lauding the Indian armed forces, he said, "The Pahalgam barbarity has been avenged to the accolades of the entire world. Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, who defined terrorism, their locations in Bahawalpur and Muridke, deep inside the territory of Pakistan, beyond international border were destroyed." "You must have seen coffins being escorted by terrorists, their army and their politicians. That was the greatest success of our defence forces," he remarked. "Can you succeed in the world without 50% of the talent not being recognised?" he asked. He said Indian girls are combat pilots, they are in the police force and in the CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces). He said those girls involved with ISRO are called rocket women. Participation of girls in equal measure is fundamental, he said. Appreciating Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, he said, "I must appreciate Prime Minister Modi for achieving something which did not happen for three decades earlier — an epochal development, a game-changing development -- one-third reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state legislatures." He also highlighted the establishment of all-girls Sainik Schools, including one in Mathura, as a major milestone. Calling Sainik School Chittorgarh his true birthplace, Mr. Dhankhar said, "I was born in village Kithana, district Jhunjhunu, but that was my biological birth. My real birth took place in Sainik School, Chittorgarh." "Sainik School taught me values, discipline, decorum, friendliness, care for the environment, to be one amongst many and not to be alone ever." The vice president encouraged students to overcome fear and failure. "Never fear, never have tension, never have stress because these only slide you down. There are no failures in life. Failure is a message: do more." He invoked Swami Vivekananda's call to action, "Arise, Awake and stop not till the goal is reached."
