The Roar of the Wounded
I am filled with rejection and rebellion as long as I live. I exist and remain alive, still resisting. We will remain in this vast abyss, searching for a homeland. We will not tire or grow weary, nor will despair or despondency reach us. We will continue to nurture hope in kind souls. And even if the hyenas of despair surround us, striving to seize us, we are 'stronger than death,' more capable of enduring and persevering. We possess a will forged by time. We are resilient against breaking, never losing hope, while remaining mindful of reason and wisdom.
They called me sick, and mad! Some said I am a traitor and a collaborator! Others labeled me Houthi and a sympathizer, while those who uttered such words long for the taste of milk.
To These I Say: I am the king of my own self, wherever I go; I refuse to be a slave to anyone, not even to my own self. I am not a sheep in a flock, nor a mount for the masses. I am free, the son of freedom, and in my faith and commitment, there is no master and servant. I will not be a slave sold in the market of slavery. I will not be a servant, even if a thousand prophets call for bondage, and a thousand verses urge for slavery.
When oppression demands my silence, I declare, 'Silence is shame.' And when the night asks me, 'Who are we?' I respond, 'We are lovers of the day.' And when absence seeks to make me disappear from sight, I become even more present. When the legions of deep sleep invade me, the bells of conscience awaken me, and my spirit rises against my silence and slumber. Silence is death. I cannot die quietly, without a sound; I cannot die stifled and choked by conscience.
I refuse to be consumed by injustice, no matter how enticing it may be with abundance or treasures. The thrill of challenge prowls within me like a lion in its cage. I resist death in the prison of silence, barred by iron. I reject muffled sounds, even if they are glass drinking in the glimmers of the sun. I refuse the strangling reins of the prancing horses; I embrace them above the clouds, along with the bridle of wildness and the shackles of human enslavement, even if they were crafted from crystal and diamonds, or pulsing like stars in the vast sky, or shimmering like chandeliers and artifacts in the palaces of the wealthy.
And even if I am compelled to silence for a moment, the vastness within me is filled with noise and clamor. If I slip into myself in a moment of weakness, my conscience does not rest from a fierce battle raging deep within me, until its victory echoes throughout the corners of the horizon, reaching the thunderous heights of the sky.
In the oppressive darkness, my conscience was my star, and in the depths of the ocean, it was my compass. My conscience comes first, before the self, before everyone, even if I am among them. My conscience finds cowardly silence intolerable in the face of overwhelming tyranny—a world teeming with bitterness and pain, where savagery penetrates me each day.
I began as a rebel and have lived, and still do, in that spirit, while my years wither towards their end. Perhaps reality dictates patience, bending to the storm until it passes. Perhaps I will calm for a brief moment, or seize a respite from this long struggle, only to return and continue what I have started. I will not surrender to a tyrant who wishes to tame me like a sheep, nor to an oppressor who rides me like a docile beast. I continue to resist with awareness, teeth clenched, and hands ready.
* * *
Raise your voice into the open air, for silence is inhabited by graves. Silence is death. Do not submit to a tyrant or an oppressor. And if fate has decreed that you traverse the prison enclosed by iron, let your roar echo across the horizon, and declare that you are free, the son of freedom. Awaken the people with a roar that cannot be denied. Unleash your resounding and formidable voice. Assert your existence and your protest, and let the world know that you are still alive, that you have not died. You remain a revolutionary, resisting.
Drink water, pure or flavored as you wish. Love life, seasoned with the taste of rebellion and struggle. Crown your achievements with excellence, and savor your uniqueness. Liberate the heights of awareness from the depths of darkness—from the assassination of childhood in its tender years. Rebel against the ready-made recipes of ignorance in universities, mosques, schools, and brainwashing sessions.
Rebel against the grand illusion, so you do not live as a captive, subdued and humiliated. If you find the truth clear, seize it as a drowning man would grasp a lifeline. Hold on with both hands. Bite down with your teeth and your very essence. Stand tall like the sky and do not bow to a tyrant. Do not accept humiliation, even if it leads you to the thrones of Rome and Persia. Do not accept a livelihood tainted by dishonor. Resist those who seek to degrade you or erase your existence from the world.

Trump administration redirecting anti-drone tech from Ukraine to US forces in Middle East, WSJ reports
U.S. President Donald Trump's administration is redirecting anti-drone technology earmarked for Ukraine to its own troops based in the Middle East, the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported on June 4. According to the WSJ, special fuzes used in ground-to-air rocket systems that protect against drone attacks will be redirected towards units in the Middle East, as the U.S. braces for conflict with Iran as well as Houthi militants in Yemen. The Pentagon notified Congress last week in a previously undisclosed message that the redirection of the fuzes, used in Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System, was identified by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth as an "urgent issue." The fuzes were initially bought for Ukraine by the Biden administration. The decision comes as Russia has intensified its drone attacks in recent months, targeting cities across Ukraine. On the night of June 1, Russia launched its largest swarm of attack drones since the start of the full-scale invasion, topping out at 472 total units at once. President Volodymyr Zelensky said on June 4 that Russia has launched over 20,000 drones towards Ukraine since the start of 2025. A source in Ukraine's military intelligence (HUR) told the Kyiv Independent on June 4 that Russia will soon be able to deploy more than 500 long-range drones a night to attack Ukraine as it ramps up production and builds new launch sites for them. Since the start of his presidency, Trump has been critical of providing Ukraine with additional military aid. The U.S. temporarily halted military supplies for Ukraine in March before restarting them after Kyiv agreed to the truce plan during talks in Jeddah on March 11. Hegseth, who reportedly ordered a temporary halt of military aid flights to Ukraine, has also been critical of providing additional aid to Kyiv. Earlier in the day on June 4, Hegseth did not attend a meeting of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group, marking the first instance since the start of the full-scale war that the U.S. Defense Secretary was not in attendance. Since Trump's second term began in January, no new aid packages have been approved. Following a call on June 4 with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Trump said that Putin "will have to respond" to Ukraine's recent drone attack on military airfields. Ukraine has called upon its partners to invest more in its arms production and to provide additional air defenses, namely Patriot systems, to help fend off intensifying Russian aerial attacks. Trump names nominees to take over Middle East, Africa commands
President Donald Trump is nominating Vice Adm. Brad Cooper to take over as the top U.S. military commander in the Middle East, the Pentagon said Wednesday. If he is confirmed, it would mark just the second time that a Navy admiral has held the job. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said in a statement that Trump also is nominating Air Force Lt. Gen. Dagvin Anderson to head U.S. Africa Command. Anderson would be the first Air Force general to lead the command, which was created in 2007. Hegseth backs Air Force three-star Grynkewich for top Europe job Cooper is currently deputy commander of U.S. Central Command and has extensive experience serving and leading troops in the Middle East. The current head of the command, Army Gen. Michael 'Erik' Kurilla, is slated to retire after more than three years in the post. It is a crucial role as the region has been shaken by conflict, with the Trump administration pushing to broker a ceasefire deal after 20 months of war in Gaza and pressing for an agreement with Iran in negotiations over Tehran's rapidly advancing nuclear program. A 1989 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Cooper commanded naval forces in the Middle East for close to three years as the head of the Navy's 5th Fleet in Bahrain. He left in February 2024 to take over as deputy at Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East and is based in Tampa. Army and Marine generals have largely held the Middle East job since it was created in 1983. And two of the recent leaders — former Army Gen. Lloyd Austin and former Marine Gen. Jim Mattis — went on to serve as defense secretary. Central Command covers 21 countries across central and south Asia and northeast Africa and has overseen the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan, Israel, Syria and Yemen. The only Navy officer to ever lead Central Command was Adm. William Fallon, who resigned after a year and retired. At the time, Fallon said he was stepping down due to press reports that suggested he was opposed to then-President George W. Bush's Iran policies. He said the reports were wrong but the perception had become a distraction. Cooper is a surface warfare officer and served on guided-missile cruisers, destroyers, aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships. He commanded a destroyer and a cruiser. During his time leading the 5th Fleet, Cooper set up the Navy's first unmanned and artificial intelligence task force, and he led naval operations against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen. He also oversaw the Navy's role in Operation Prosperity Guardian, the U.S.-led coalition created in late 2023 to counter Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea. He previously served as commander of Naval Surface Force Atlantic and commander of U.S. Naval Forces Korea. Cooper is the son of a career Army officer and got his master's degree in strategic intelligence from the National Intelligence University. Anderson, nominated to lead operations in Africa, is a pilot who has flown the KC-135 tanker, the C-130 transport aircraft and the U-28A surveillance aircraft used largely by special operations forces. He has flown more than 3,400 flight hours, including 738 in combat. He is currently serving as the director of joint force development on the Joint Staff. According to the Air Force, he commanded a special operations squadron, an expeditionary squadron, an operations group and a special operations wing. He also led the task force that coordinated the repositioning of U.S. forces from Somalia and headed Special Operations Command, Africa, from 2019 to 2021. Africa Command is the newest of the Pentagon's geographic commands and covers the bulk of the African continent. Much of the U.S. military's efforts there have focused on combatting extremist groups and training local forces. Anderson would be the seventh general to head Africa Command. To date, four of the previous leaders were Army generals and two were Marines. Anderson is from Ypsilanti, Michigan, and graduated from the ROTC program at Washington University in St. Louis.
