BREAKING NEWS Aussie tourist who died in Thailand after holiday turned to tragedy is identified

Daily Mail11-05-2025

A 22-year-old tradie from Melbourne has been identified as the young male tourist who died while on a boating tour in Thailand.
Corey Walsh was on a boating tour off the coast of Phuket when he dove off the Marinda 2 tour boat while intoxicated on Tuesday.
Mr Walsh, who was a roof plumber from Frankston, was reportedly intoxicated when he jumped into the water near Koh Racha Yai - a popular destination for snorkelling.
It is believed the 22-year-old was dragged underwater due to a strong current despite his efforts to paddle and stay afloat.
Mr Walsh was pulled from the water unconscious and unresponsive, with tour conductors issuing a distress call for emergency services about 2.28pm local time.
Medics immediately administered CPR on the young traveller while on the deck of the boat before rushing him to Chalong Hospital in Phuket.
However, despite their efforts, staff at the hospital pronounced Mr Walsh dead at 3.53pm.
The boat trip from the island of Koh Racha Yai can take between 45 minutes to one hour, with an additional 15 minute car ride from the port to Chalong Hospital.
Friends have shared heartbreaking tributes, with many describing him as a genuine young man with a 'beautiful soul'.
Mr Walsh's friend Zack Williams described the young tradie as a 'one of a kind friend' in a touching post shared to social media.
'There was seriously not a time you didn't have a smile on your face, and the way you could bring everyone else's moods up was insane,' Mr Williams wrote.
Another friend wrote: 'you are the most genuine and outgoing person I know who could make everyone smile in the smoko sheds in a Monday morning'.

Father and daughter, nine, dead after house fire

A nine-year-old girl and her father have died and an 11-year-old girl is fighting for her life after a house fire. The two died after the blaze broke out in Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire, on Sunday, police said. Medics tried to save the father's life but he died at the scene in Russell Close, while the nine-year-old was taken to hospital but died later that day. The 11-year-old girl was also taken to hospital, where she remains. It is believed the mother was out of the country at the time of the fire. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it sent four crews to tackle the blaze, which was reported at around 6am. Det Insp Paul Greatorex, of West Yorkshire Police, said: 'We are continuing to work with colleagues at the fire service to investigate this dreadfully sad incident which has resulted in a father and daughter losing their lives. 'Extensive inquiries have been ongoing since yesterday and we have been working to locate and support relatives of the victims both here and outside of the UK at what is clearly an awful time for the family. 'While our inquiries remain ongoing, we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances regarding the cause of the fire and will be preparing a file for the coroner in due course. 'Our support for the family involved clearly also still continues.' Councillor Ali Arshad, who represents Heckmondwike on Kirklees Council as a member of the Kirklees Community Independents Group, said he had asked the community, which he described as 'close-knit', not to speculate. He said: 'There's been no speculation. Everybody has respected the wishes of the family.' He said the family of the victims were 'absolutely amazing people', adding: 'They keep themselves to themselves and are always cheery and willing to help.'

Family ‘shattered' after body found in search for missing teenager

The family of a teenager who went missing more than a month ago have said they are 'living a nightmare' after a body was found. Cole Cooper, 19, was reported missing on May 9 having last been seen in Longcroft near Falkirk. A body was found at around 4.15pm on Friday June 6 in a wooded area near Kilsyth Road in Banknock, Falkirk, following a major search. Formal identification had not yet taken place at that time but the family of Mr Cooper were informed. In a statement posted on the Missing Person Cole Cooper group on social media, his family said they were 'completely broken' by the news. They said: 'With shattered hearts, we share the devastating news that our beloved Cole, who was missing, has been found — but not in the way we hoped or prayed for. 'Our worst fears have become reality, and we are now living a nightmare we can't wake up from.' The statement added: 'Cole, you were our world — and now our world will never be the same. 'Your life was only just beginning. The world didn't get to know the light you carried, but we did — and we will carry it with us, always.' The family said they have been left with unanswered questions and thanked all those who have supported them. Mr Cooper was last seen by family on either May 2 or 3 and he appeared on CCTV around 6am on May 4 in Longcroft, where he tried but failed to access his father's home. He was last seen at about 8.45pm on May 7 on the A803 near Cumbernauld Road in Longcroft, when he asked a school friend for a lift, which he was not given. His family reported him missing on May 9, sparking a major investigation involving helicopters, divers, digital specialists and hundreds of officers. More than 400 people were spoken to during door-to-door inquiries, while over 2,000 hours of CCTV were reviewed. Police said inquiries are continuing to establish the full circumstances.
