Hong Kong court fines decoration company, interior designer over illegal renovations
A Hong Kong court has fined a decoration company and an interior designer a total of HK$260,000 (US$33,120) over illegal modifications of a load-bearing wall at an upscale flat in a high-rise residential complex.
Space Envision Limited and Lai Chun-kit each pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a count of knowingly carrying out building works without approval and consent for removing three walls, including a structural one, at a 681 sq ft flat in The Capitol in Lohas Park, Tseung Kwan O.
Kwun Tong Court also recorded a guilty plea from the firm on an additional charge of 'carrying out works in such a manner as is likely to cause a risk of injury to person or damage to property'.
The flat's owner, Ku Chun-ho, pleaded not guilty to the two offences under the Buildings Ordinance. He will return to court for a pretrial hearing in August.
The Buildings Department found a 72cm-by-215cm (28 inches by 85 inches) section of a 20cm-thick load-bearing wall had been illegally removed in May 2023 to install a door between the flat's living room and a bedroom.

Chong had reportedly brought her assistant in the Sai Kung District Council along to the interview, who distributed cold drinks to reporters on site. The assistant was also seen providing Chong's contact information as a councillor to journalists. Multiple insiders from the DAB said Chong had not informed the party of her decision to join the beauty contest. 'The liaison office was angry at her move and also the party for allowing the incident to happen,' a DAB source said.

2 arrested, 1,075 fake tickets seized ahead of Jay Chou Hong Kong concerts
Hong Kong police have arrested two people and seized more than 1,000 fake tickets with a face value of over HK$2 million (US$256,410) in total for concerts by Mandopop superstar Jay Chou this weekend. The force said on Saturday that officers arrested a man, 23, and a 17-year-old girl during an operation the previous afternoon at Hung Hom MTR station when members of a local syndicate were allegedly making a deal. Two counterfeit tickets were seized from the pair. Officers also found another 1,073 fake concert tickets with a face value of HK$1,880 each, or more than HK$2 million in total, in a hotel room in To Kwa Wan. The pair were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to defraud and possessing a false instrument and had been detained for investigation, the force said. The fake tickets were of poor quality. Hong Kong man arrested over 9kg narcotics haul worth HK$8.8 million
Hong Kong customs officers have seized about 9kg (19.8lbs) of suspected narcotics with an estimated market value of HK$8.8 million (US$1.12 million) and arrested a man on suspicion of drug trafficking. The operation took place in San Tin, near Yuen Long in the New Territories, on Friday night. Officers intercepted a man acting suspiciously and discovered about 1.1kg of what was believed to be crack cocaine in a thermal bag he was carrying, according to the Customs and Excise Department. He was arrested and officers escorted him to a village house nearby. Officers searched the premises and seized another 4.7kg of suspected cocaine and about 3.2kg of suspected crack cocaine, in addition to what appeared to be packaging paraphernalia. The suspect, a 27-year-old who claimed to be unemployed, was charged with two counts of trafficking in dangerous drugs. He is expected to appear in Fanling Court on Monday.
