Director Reveals His Pitch for Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt Movie
Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt haven't been on the big screen together since "Interview with the Vampire" in 1994. Although a reunion is imminent, one director is interested in filming a movie with these two Hollywood stars. While at the Mexico City premiere for "F1" earlier this month, Pitt was asked if he'd be willing to work with Cruise again. The Academy Award winner made it clear that he refuses to do any of the wild stunts that we see Cruise perform during the "Mission: Impossible" series. "Well, I'm not gonna hang my ass off airplanes and [expletive] like that," Pitt told E! News. "So when he does something again that's on the ground." Joseph Kosinski, the director of "F1" and "Top Gun: Maverick," knows one way Pitt can reunite with Cruise without risking his life. During an interview with GQ, he revealed that his dream pitch is a crossover between "Days of Thunder" and "F1." That crossover would give fans the chance to see Cruise's character from "Days of Thunder," Cole Trickle, clash against Pitt's character from "F1," Sonny Hayes. "Right now, it'd be Cole Trickle. We find out that he and Sonny Hayes have a past," Kosinski said. "They were rivals at some point, maybe crossed paths… I heard about this epic go-kart battle on Interview with the Vampire that Brad and Tom had, and who wouldn't pay to see those two go head-to-head on the track?" Even if Kosinski's dream pitch doesn't come to life, fans should expect to see a "Days of Thunder" sequel at some point in the future. "Yeah, we're thinking and talking about many different stories and what could we do and what's possible,' Cruise told Today Show Australia. 'It took me 35 years to figure out 'Top Gun: Maverick', so all of these things we're working on, we're discussing 'Days of Thunder' and 'Top Gun: Maverick.'' Diego Luna's final 'Kimmel' monologue hits it out of the park
Diego Luna has had an excellent week. The Mexican actor and Andor star has finished up a guest-hosting spot for Jimmy Kimmel Live!, having delivered powerful monologues about Donald Trump's harsh immigration enforcement policies and sitting down for compelling interviews with icons such as civil rights activist Dolores Huerta. While receiving press praise and enthusiastic online comments, Luna has also faced hateful comments and criticism from the likes of Fox News — and he read out these posts and headlines on the show. On Thursday, for his final round, Luna brought it home by opening the show with mariachi music, giving Kimmel co-host Guillermo an executive producer promotion ("I don't know if I can do that, but I just did,"), and delivering a final must-watch monologue appealing to the audience for unity, not division. "I know there is a lot of focus in your media about the differences between our cultures and the violence south of the border, but I hope this week I was able to open up the dialogue. We should be doing more of that, telling our stories and finding what connects us," says Luna in the clip above. "We shouldn't let our cultural exchange be divided by borders, by ignorance, by fear, or a wall built by your president (that he paid for, by the way). We're going through a hard time. Authoritarian leaders and expressions are on the rise, and it's happening everywhere. Leaders who attack the press, use the military against their own citizens, and claim they have the answer to everything. Does that sound familiar? "But it's in our hands to do something. There are many ways to push back. And one way is by making fun of them every night like Jimmy does. Using comedy to defend freedom, they don't like that shit. And we can't take that for granted, because we, the audience, have to defend spaces like this. Without satire and voices like Jimmy's that question and challenge the abuse of power, democracy doesn't just weaken, it can disappear. And we cannot let that happen." 'Eddington' trailer: Ari Aster, Pedro Pascal, and Joaquin Phoenix deliver a COVID-19 thriller

In his fourth feature film Eddington, writer/director Ari Aster revisits the tensions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020. While Aster became known for horror films like Hereditary and Midsommar, he moves away from the genre with Western thriller Eddington, just as he did in his third feature, the darkly comedic epic Beau is Afraid. And just like with that big swing — which also starred Joaquin Phoenix — critical reception of Eddington is mixed, following the film's premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. However, there's been enough praise to pepper this trailer with pullquotes. Ted and Joe's showdown allows Aster to examine differing reactions to COVID-19. So, the trailer touches on masking, nasal swabs, and social distancing guidelines. The film's 2020 setting also means Eddington taps into Black Lives Matter protests over racial division and the death of George Floyd. Another key element of Eddington is the way social media and social isolation combined to create the perfect storm for people to latch onto conspiracy theories. Look no further than Joe's wife Louise (Emma Stone), who becomes obsessed with a cult leader played by Austin Butler. How will all this play out to audiences? We'll find out when Eddington hits theaters July 18.
