Previous AIADMK government ‘spoiled' TN, BJP's communal politics doing same, says Stalin

Bureaucrats and ministers presented the DMK's report card highlighting their achievements over the past four years across departments like industries, sports, education, etc.
They showed the success of their schemes such as the CM's breakfast scheme (where school children in government schools receive free breakfast), ₹ 1,000 cash given to women-headed households, and financial assistance to women to complete their higher education.
'We have fulfilled most of our promises made in the election manifesto,' said Stalin. 'We are implementing several projects out of the manifesto. We formed the government when the previous government (AIADMK) had spoiled the state during their rule from 2011 to 2021, and while another government is spoiling India with its communal politics. The Union government does not cooperate with us. We have managed all this and we are running this government to bring Tamil Nadu back on track on the path of development.' He described his government as one that is rooted in ideology and serves people.
Meanwhile, the opposition criticised Stalin over deterioration in law and order and cases of corruption.
'In the four years of Stalin's rule, law and order has been in shambles with caste clashes, murders and sexual violence against women,' said leader of opposition and AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami (EPS). 'There is no difference between the hero of the English film 'The Dictator' and Stalin.'
EPS then appealed to people to vote out Stalin and bring back the AIADMK in the 2026 assembly elections.

Tribal student from Pachamalai Hills in Tamil Nadu secures seat in law university
S. Bharath, a 17-year-old from a Scheduled Tribe (ST) community at Thonur village in Pachamalai Hills of Tiruchi district, has secured a seat in the Tamil Nadu National Law University (TNNLU) after topping the list of students from 28 Government Tribal Residential Schools in the State who appeared for the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). His achievement earned him a congratulatory message from Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (June 7, 2025). In a message on X, the Chief Minister said he hoped Mr. Bharath would use his training as a lawyer to help his community. He also said the student would have the support of the DMK's legal wing, and the mentorship of its secretary N.R. Elango till the completion of his studies. Mr. Bharath studied at the Government Tribal Higher Secondary School in Chinna Illupur and secured an all-India ST rank of 964. He secured admission to the B. Com, LLB (Hons) course at TNNLU through the 7.5% reservation for ST government school students in Tamil Nadu. He lost his mother at an early age, and is the eldest of three siblings. Mr. Bharath's father A. Selvakumar is a daily wage labourer. 'This is a milestone for Bharath, as it shows his capability in a competitive academic field. It will inspire future generations of our students to join the country's legal profession. We hope he will utilise his education to contribute to the welfare of the tribal community,' P. Arjuselvam, headmaster of the school run by the Tribal Welfare Department, told The Hindu. The school has 185 students from the tribal community, and has been encouraging them to take competitive exams in various fields for the past two years. Mr. Bharath secured the TNNLU seat in the second round of counselling, and got it confirmed at the student help desk at Government Model Higher Secondary School in Thuvakudi on June 4. He completed Class 12 in the Commerce stream, scoring 356 out of 600, and scored 353 out of 500 in Class 10 — both in Tamil medium. He was one of six students who prepared for the English-medium CLAT with the help of coaching classes conducted in partnership with private institutions, facilitated by the Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department, and an orientation programme held at TNNLU before the exam. The total cost of his law degree, including the seat-confirming fee of ₹20,000, will be sponsored by the department.

Daydreaming, EPS Dismisses CM Stalin's 2026 Assembly Election Target
Leader of Opposition and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Sunday dismissed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's claim that the DMK-led coalition would win over 200 seats in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, calling it a 'daydream'. Speaking at the wedding of Arakkonam MLA S. Ravi's son, Palaniswami said, 'Stalin is daydreaming when he says his alliance will secure more than 200 Assembly seats in the next polls. It is, in fact, the AIADMK-led front that will form the next government in Tamil Nadu after 2026.' He also asserted that more political parties would soon join the AIADMK alliance, further strengthening its position. Highlighting achievements of the AIADMK during its previous tenure from 2016 to 2021, Palaniswami took credit for the creation of six new districts in Tamil Nadu, including Ranipet and Tirupattur, which were carved out of Vellore. He said the formation of these new administrative units enabled a better focus on underdeveloped regions. The former Chief Minister also listed several educational initiatives launched during the AIADMK regime, including the establishment of 11 new medical colleges, six law colleges, and additional engineering and agricultural colleges. "On the contrary, the DMK government is merely relaunching our schemes under new names by pasting their stickers on them,' he alleged. Palaniswami questioned the DMK's 2021 poll promise to build check dams worth Rs 2,000 crore across Tamil Nadu. 'How many check dams has the DMK government built so far? Every monsoon, excess rainwater simply drains into the sea due to poor planning,' he said. He further criticised the DMK for discontinuing pro-poor schemes introduced by the AIADMK, such as Amma Clinics and the Kudimaramathu initiative, which allowed farmers to desilt local waterbodies. 'This not only deepened water storage areas but also provided nutrient-rich silt for farmlands,' he said. Palaniswami also cited the AIADMK's introduction of the 7.5 per cent horizontal reservation for government school students in medical admissions as a landmark initiative. 'Thanks to this, 3,460 government school students have been able to pursue medicine since the 2020-21 academic year,' he said. The event was attended by former Minister and Tirupattur district in-charge K.C. Veeramani, along with several AIADMK functionaries and party cadre.
