Referee body cams and enhanced offside detection system tested at Club World Cup
PARIS, June 6 (Reuters) - Referees wearing body cameras and an upgraded offside detection system will be among the headline innovations at this year's Club World Cup in the United States, FIFA said on Friday.
For the first time at a FIFA tournament, match officials will wear body cameras, with selected footage broadcast live to audiences.
A new, advanced version of semi-automated offside technology — combining Artificial Intelligence, multiple cameras, and ball sensors — will be deployed to speed up decision-making while maintaining VAR oversight for marginal calls.
"However, for challenging offside scenarios, the video assistant referee will still validate the information provided by the system before the decision is taken," FIFA said in a statement.
The tournament, which expands to 32 teams this year, will serve as a major testing ground for both systems, the governing body said.

It's claimed that the key reason is Chelsea's valuation of Ekitike – Eintracht Frankfurt value the 22-year-old at €100m (£84.3m) but Chelsea are refusing to go beyond €80m (£67.4m). BILD also report that Liverpool are also interested in Ekitike but their main focus is to reach an agreement with Bayer Leverkusen for Florian Wirtz. Last week, reports in Germany claimed that Liverpool had held initial talks over a move for Ekitike. Speaking on the final day of the Bundesliga season, Eintracht Frankfurt's sporting director, Markus Krosche, refused to rule out the prospect of selling Ekitike this summer. Coco Gauff has landed the second Grand Slam title of her career after a thrilling victory over Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday's French Open final. The 21-year-old American sensation conquered Roland Garros for the very first time after coming from behind to defeat the top-ranked Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4.
