This is Miyamoto. And it's Nintendo's world.

Washington Post24-05-2025

ORLANDO —
Shigeru Miyamoto wanted to share what he calls 'a little bit of a strange story' as he sat in a lavish and hushed lounge tucked in the middle of Universal Orlando, where the third Super Nintendo World theme park opened Thursday.
Now 72, the most influential creator in the video games art form has come a long way from his youth as an industrial design student at the Kanazawa College of Art, a tiny public school. He was a lifetime and a world away in Florida to open another theme park he helped design, but for a moment, his memory traveled back to his college days to rediscover the first time he built a world to enter and play.

Snapchat adds new tools for building Bitmoji games

Snapchat is launching new Lens Studio tools that AR creators and developers can use to build Bitmoji games, the company told TechCrunch exclusively. The company is also releasing a Bitmoji Suite as well as new assets for games. With Lens Studio 5.10, the new games assets offer developers new ways to build dynamic games Lenses, the company said. We're getting a turn-based system to enable back-and-forth gameplay, as well as the ability to Snap and respond to a challenge or turn in the same game. There's also a new customizable Character Controller that supports different gameplay styles, including third-person, first-person, side-scroller, and top-down perspectives. The leaderboard has also been updated with new templates for start and end screens, a standardized and hybrid view of friends and global scores, and new friend-related metrics, like 'friends who have played.' The Bitmoji Suite brings new tools for personalizing and animating Bitmoji. Users can now design custom outfits for Bitmoji, generate stylized props, and animate them using Snap's library. 'Lens Studio empowers our vibrant community of over 375,000 AR creators, developers, and teams to seamlessly build and publish Lenses, so we're excited to give them even more tools to create,' the company said in an email to TechCrunch. Meta using songs by Eminem and other artists without permission, lawsuit alleges

Detroit rapper Eminem's music publishing company is suing Meta, alleging the social media giant made its songs available to users without permission. The lawsuit filed Friday alleges that the company that owns Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp didn't secure proper licensing to store, reproduce or distribute Eight Mile Style's songs. According to the lawsuit, Meta's online music libraries have 243 songs controlled by Eight Mile Style that users can attach to their posts. The lawsuit alleges that Meta has known it needs a license to reproduce and distribute music. In 2020, Meta entered into a license agreement with Audiam, a digital music royalty collection firm. At that time, Meta unsuccessfully negotiated an Eight Mile Style license as part of the Audiam license. The filing states Meta is committing copyright infringement, inducement of copyright infringement, contributory copyright infringement and vicarious copyright infringement, and is making money off the use of Eight Mile Style's songs. At one point, Eight Mile Style reached out to Meta about the alleged copyright infringement, according to the lawsuit. The social media company has since removed "several of the Eight Mile compositions from its music libraries." Eight Mile Style is asking for $150,000 for each song used without permission and for each platform where Meta made those songs available, and a court order stopping the company from unlawfully using its songs, the lawsuit says. Eminem isn't directly involved in the lawsuit. Meta has declined to comment on the case.
