Yahoo17-05-2025

Three suspects have been charged following a months-long investigation into overnight thefts across York Region that saw jewelry, handbags and cash stolen from unoccupied homes.
And cops are turning to the public for help tracking down another three suspects who are still sought, including one person who has a history with authorities in Durham.
York Regional Police said investigators from the Integrated Property Crime Task Force (ICPTF) launched a probe in October 2024 into a series of break-ins they believed were carried out by the same suspects.
The investigation, dubbed Project Lone Wolf, found homes that appeared to be vacant while the homeowners were away were targeted throughout the fall and winter months.
'The suspects carried out coordinated overnight break-and-enters stealing jewelry, handbags, cash and other items that could be easily transported from the residence to waiting vehicles,' police said in a news release.
Police said detectives cooperated with members of Durham Regional Police, Halton Regional Police and the Ontario Provincial Police in order to identify suspects, gather evidence and to assist in identifying additional victims.
Lucien Viau, 52, of Oshawa, is charged with break-and-enter commit, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Robert Mills, 67, of Oshawa, is charged with two counts of break-and-enter commit and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Shane Charles, 48, of Whitby, is charged with break-and-enter commit and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
Still wanted by authorities are Sean Mackey, 47, Patricia Mackey-Moreira, 22, of Toronto, and an 18-year-old man.
Mackey is wanted for nine counts of break-and-enter commit, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and two counts of conspiracy to commit an indicatable offence. He is also accused of operating a vehicle while prohibited.
Mackey-Moreira is wanted for possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
The unidentified man is wanted for two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
'The suspects are encouraged to seek legal advice and turn themselves in,' cops said. 'Investigators are reminding the public that anyone providing assistance to them could be subject to criminal charges.'
In March 2022, Mackey was slapped with 30 charges by Durham Regional Police after officers responded to four separate break-ins in Brooklin.
At the time, Mackey was accused of breaking-and-entering, mischief under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, breach of probation, breach of release order, and trespassing at night. The outcome of those charges is unknown.
Police said search warrants executed at residences in Oshawa led to numerous items being recovered. An online photo collection of items that have yet to be claimed is now available.
'We are asking anyone who was a victim of a residential break-and-enter between September 2024 to March 2025 to please review the photos and contact police if any of the items belong to you,' police said.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Integrated Property Crime Task Force at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7232, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Family issues statement following shocking killing of elderly Pickering woman

The family of an 83-year-old woman killed during a shocking stabbing attack last week in Pickering is expressing their 'gratitude' for the community's 'outpouring of love and support.' In a statement released by Durham Regional Police on Tuesday, the family of Eleanor Doney also thanked first responders. 'We want to express our gratitude to the community for the outpouring of love and support during this difficult time,' the family said. 'We especially want to thank the first responders for all of their efforts. We take comfort in the fact that she was a woman of strong Christian faith.' Last Thursday, police said a passerby found Doney on the ground outside a residence midafternoon near Lynn Heights Dr. and Fairport Rd., in the Whites Rd. and Finch Ave. area, suffering from traumatic injuries. She was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she was pronounced dead. Following an extensive search, police said a 14-year-old boy from Pickering was arrested hours later. On Friday, the teen was charged with first-degree murder. He cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. It is Durham Region's second homicide of 2025. Police say they are also reminding the public to not share any identifying information or photos about the alleged young offender as it is a criminal offence. 'We are asking you to instead turn those videos over to police and use the social media space as a place to remember Eleanor,' police said. Cops say investigators are appealing to anyone who may have information about this incident, no matter how insignificant it is, to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Barrette at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5412 or Det. Cst. Hilliard from the Homicide Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5413.
