Queens baby girl dies after being bitten by family dog
A 6-week-old baby girl died in Queens early Tuesday after the family dog, a Pit Bull mix puppy, bit her, cops said.
The infant was sleeping between her mother and stepfather inside the family's apartment in NYCHA's Queensbridge North Houses when the couple woke up about 6:30 a.m. to the puppy biting the baby's face, cops were told.
The infant died at the scene on 12th St. near 41st Ave. in Long Island City.
The city's Animal Care Centers of NYC were called in to take the puppy, as well as another dog in the apartment.
A large dog crate was seen outside the apartment as cops closed off the crime scene.
No arrests have been made.

Pontiac man left confused after dog shot and killed by sheriff's deputies
Robert White recalls Tuesday night when his dog, Minnie, was shot and killed by Oakland County Sheriff's deputies. It all started with him and a few friends sitting in the front yard. "Somebody was actually working on a car for a minute, so we were all just hanging out," White told CBS News Detroit. White says Minnie, a pit bull, was sitting in the neighbor's driveway. Eventually, deputies arrived outside the home. Sometime later, Minnie was shot. "(She) did not lunge at you, did not bark, didn't do anything, she was sitting there," he said. CBS News Detroit contacted the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, which released the following statement: "The facts show that a pit bull charged at the deputy while the deputy was on a sidewalk and retreating. The dog continued to charge, and the deputy defended himself. The dog was taken by the deputy to a veterinarian, where it succumbed to its injury." "I just need justice. My daughter is going crazy over this. That was her dog," White said. White says Minnie isn't a violent pet. He and his neighbors are still unsure why authorities arrived. "They just said they got a call about a fight, about a pregnant lady. I was too hysterical about my dog. Wasn't nobody fighting over here," he said. White says one deputy offered to take Minnie to the vet. As he carried her to the car, it would become his last time holding her. "They, trying to tell me to hurry up and take your dog to the vet so you can save your dog. I ain't got no money to take my dog to the vet." Less than an hour later, White got the call that Minnie had died. He says it's a confusing situation, especially since he feels left in the dark about the entire incident. "Killed my dog for no reason. No, I ain't get nothing. They didn't give us any badge numbers or anything," he said. Minnie would have turned 5 years old next week. White is hoping to honor her by getting answers.

Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted
Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted originally appeared on PetHelpful. Sadly, animal shelters and rescues being over-capacity isn't exactly breaking news. Economic hardship makes pet ownership more expensive than ever, and populations of stray and feral animals in many cities continue to grow. True, more pet parents are also choosing to adopt, not shop, for a new pet, but shelter dogs like Pretzel are sometimes waiting longer than ever. Pretzel is an adorable 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix who's been waiting oh-so-patiently at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida for her forever person to find her. Although she's been a brave and resilient girl, she's beginning to lose hope after watching so many of her puppy neighbors get adopted. Poor Pretzel! I wish I could reach through the screen and give her a hug, but I know she's in wonderful hands at @humanebroward. She was surrendered to the shelter after raising a litter of puppies, and she's been waiting for someone to treat her like their baby ever since. Needless to say, this precious Pittie girl is more than ready to get adopted. The look on her face when she watches other dogs leave for their forever homes is positively heartbreaking, but her perfect person is out there somewhere. My fingers are crossed that they're just about to find her!Pretzel may have had a rough past, but she's a resilient, affectionate, and playful dog who will thrive in the right forever home. Her ideal person or family will help her gain confidence and feel like part of a family again, no matter how big or small that family may be. She's great with kids, adults, and other dogs, so any family could be her perfect match! Adopting a shelter dog can be a joyful experience, but it also requires plenty of patience and flexibility. Rescue dogs need time to adjust to their forever homes, but after a few weeks, they'll begin to feel completely at home. It's only a matter of time until it's Pretzel's turn to live out her own Happily Ever After! Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos. Pit Bull Mix's Haunting Way of Accepting Treats From Dad Has People Feeling Uneasy
Pit Bull Mix's Haunting Way of Accepting Treats From Dad Has People Feeling Uneasy originally appeared on PetHelpful. Even though many of them look similar, there's no question that dogs are one-of-a-kind. Of course, plenty of pups have qualities in common based on their breed, genetics, or pure coincidence, but when it comes down to their mannerisms and preferences, no two dogs are exactly the same. Dog lovers wouldn't have it any other way! Pups are so entertaining and endearing, although some, like @pooknoot's Pit Bull mix, can be a bit strange, too. The way this dog accepts a treat from his dad is the oddest thing! Even though this dog dad has been attempting to go viral for his basketball tricks, it was his pup's bizarre behavior that has millions of people talking. Some viewers feel downright creeped out by the strange way he takes the treat, but you'll just have to see for yourself. What in the world was that? The unbreaking eye contact and slow backing up were unnerving to say the least, but I can appreciate this dog's confidence in navigating his steps in reverse. "Bro knows every square inch of that house," one commenter noticed. "He didn't even need to look where he was going." Clearly, he walks backwards regularly if he can do it on command and not bump into a thing. Now that's one talented dog!Just as I started to wonder if this was too good to be true, I saw plenty of comments questioning whether this video was simply played in reverse. But sure enough, this dog's weird behavior is as real as it gets! I'll never get over this! Dogs don't usually work this hard to stay front-facing unless they feel unsafe, but this Pit Bull mix is in his forever home with his Dad, whom he loves. I was beginning to wonder if he's just oddly protective of his food, but he doesn't seem to have any food in this clip. I guess I'll just keep wondering along with this dog's other new fans. Oh well!
