Week of May 26 Morning News Ratings: GMA and CBS Mornings Gain Demo Viewers After Memorial Day

Yahoo3 days ago

The short week that followed the Memorial Day holiday saw all three morning shows experience declines in total viewers. However, ABC News' Good Morning America and CBS News' CBS Mornings posted week-to-week gains in the advertiser-coveted demo of Adults 25-54 for the week of May 26.
It may be a post-holiday hiccup, but NBC News' Today showed some vulnerability in its longtime first-place demo position as the gap between it and GMA was less than 100,000 A25-54 viewers.
NOTE: GMA, Today, and CBS Mornings were coded as specials on Monday (05/6/25) due to the Memorial Day holiday. These specialed telecasts are excluded from the weekly and season averages. The morning shows' weekly averages are based on four days (Tuesday-Friday).
According to live-plus-same-day data from Nielsen, GMA averaged 2.629 million total viewers and 466,000 A25-54 viewers. Compared to the previous week, ABC News' morning show was down -1% in the former category, but up +3% in the latter. Looking at its performance alongside the same week in 2024 (the week of May 27), GMA was down -7% in total viewers and -1% in the demo.
Today landed in second place in total viewers, but remained No. 1 in the demo with 2.558 million and 542,000 viewers, respectively. Week-to-week, the morning show saw a -1% decrease in the former category and a double-digit dip of -10% in the latter. Year-to-year, Today was down -2% in total viewers and -3% in the demo.
CBS Mornings saw 1.823 million total viewers and 342,000 demo viewers for a decline of -9% in the former category, and a +9% gain in the demo. Year-to-year, the morning show sustained an -11% decline in total viewers and a -13% decline in the demo.

Donald Trump Lets News Outlets Know He's Got No Plans To Talk To Elon Musk: 'The Poor Guy Has Got A Problem'

Donald Trump spent part of Friday morning letting some news outlets know that he has no plans to talk to Elon Musk, even amid talk of a potential truce in their messy fallout. On CNN, Dana Bash said that she got off the phone with Trump, and the president told her, 'I'm not even thinking about Elon. He's got a problem. The poor guy has got a problem.' More from Deadline U.S. Job Growth Stays In Line With Expectations At 139,000 In May Even Amid Federal Workforce Cuts Trump Vs Musk Gets BBC 'Have I Got News For You' Treatment After Meltdown Occurs During Recording Late Night Hosts Take On Trump-Musk Feud: "Vader Turns On The Emperor Again" 'He says he won't be speaking to him for a while, but he wishes Elon Musk well,' Bash said, as Trump turned to the economy. She said that Trump didn't sound angry but 'I guess more resigned.' ABC News' Jonathan Karl also spoke to Trump, and said the president told him that he was 'not particularly' interested in talking to him. Karl had asked him about reports that there would be a call with Musk some time on Friday. 'You mean the man who has lost his mind?' Trump said. Trump also spoke to CBS News' Robert Costa, and insisted that he was 'totally' focused on policy matters. On his social media platform Truth Social, Trump retirned to attacking the Federal Reserve for not lowering interest rates. Meanwhile, Fox News and other outlets reported that Trump plans to give away or sell the red Tesla that he purchased from Musk earlier this year. The two had appeared on the White House lawn in March for what essentially was a sales pitch for Musk's cars, amid reports of declining sales due in part to the negative image many potential buyers had of the billionaire in his chainsaw-like approach to the federal government. As the feud between Musk and Trump escalated on Thursday, White House reporter posted photos of the Tesla, parked near the West Wing. Musk had given some indication later on Thursday that he would tone it down. After one X user suggested that Musk and Trump 'cool off and take a step back for a couple days,' Musk wrote, 'Good advice.' He also appeared to back off his threat to decommission Dragon, the program to supply NASA with spacecraft to resupply and send astronauts to the space station. The White House has tried to shift attention to the economy, amid a rather static jobs report on Friday. But the soap opera, reality show- like feud has dominated cable news coverage, podcasts, primetime opinion programming and late night. Musk reportedly poured $277 million into the 2024 election to help Trump and other Republicans, and there was expectation that he would invest heavily in next year's midterms. But as the Trump-Musk relationship fizzled this week, the billionaire, who is the world's richest man, threatened to work to defeat GOP candidates who voted for the signature piece of Trump's agenda, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Musk also talked of a third party and supported the idea of impeaching Trump. Cassidy shared the happy news in a post on her Instagram, including a photo of her baby girl's hand. "Rosie Mae Wierda! Born at 9:59am on 6/03/2025," Cassidy wrote in her caption. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Cassidy Gifford (@cassidygiff) Cassidy and Wierda are already parents to son Finn, whom they welcomed in June 2023. The couple's happy news comes a few weeks after her brother Cody announced that he and his wife Erika are expecting their third baby together, sharing the exciting news on Instagram. In the sweet video, Cody and Erika spent time with their two little boys, Frank, 2, and Ford, 17 months. At the end of the video, which included clips from the family's day out, a box is lifted to reveal a white cake, which read, "Baby #3 Loading." "✨Gifford, party of cinco 🥹," Erika wrote in her caption. "🫧 Our little blessing on the way was prayed for, dreamed of, and is already so deeply loved. 20 weeks in and we can't wait to meet the newest member of our crew. 🩵🩷." This past July, Gifford opened up to PEOPLE about her special relationship with her grandsons. "I'm just so grateful for them. They're precious and they give me a purpose to get up every morning when everything else is just not the same for me," Gifford told PEOPLE. "Life is just so different and I just try to find joy when I can find it." "And the only place I can really find it is in the Word of God and in my grandsons," she continued. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Kathie Lee Gifford (@kathielgifford) Earlier that summer, Gifford spoke with PEOPLE in June about how much she loves being a grandma, noting that it has also been nice to see her kids take on new roles. "I had my children later in life and I've certainly had my grandchildren later," Gifford told PEOPLE. "It is exactly what everybody's always told me, which seems like such a cliché. But clichés — they're real. Because they're true." "There is nothing like it in the whole world. To see my children, first of all, so in love with their spouses. I'm so grateful to God for that. They picked wisely. They're so in love and it makes me so happy," added the proud mom. Read the original article on People

It's a wrap: McDonald's, Popeye's kick off latest fast food battle

It's a wrap: McDonald's, Popeye's kick off latest fast food battle Show Caption Hide Caption Rotisserie chicken tips, tricks and recipes Turn one rotisserie chicken into multiple easy, delicious meals. If 2019 was the year of the fast food chicken sandwich battle, 2025 appears to be the year of the fast food chicken wrap battle. McDonald's U.S. president Joe Erlinger confirmed on "Good Morning America" in December 2024 that the fan-favorite Snack Wrap would be making a comeback sometime in 2025. In April 2025, the chain's social media accounts shared another clue to the wrap's official return date. Finally, McDonald's confirmed to USA TODAY on June 3 that the Snack Wrap will officially be coming back to restaurants permanently beginning Thursday, July 10. The company said the Snack Wraps will feature one of McDonald's new McCrispy Strips – a juicy chicken strip made with all white meat – topped with crisp shredded lettuce and shredded cheese, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla. Popeyes, meanwhile, announced on June 2 it is introducing Chicken Wraps to its menu for a limited time, giving customers the "craveable flavor of Popeyes, now wrapped and ready to go wherever you do," according to a news release. The wraps feature Popeyes hand-breaded and battered chicken tenders with crispy lettuce, shredded cheese and crunchy pickles, all in a warm tortilla that's inspired by the flavor of Popeyes biscuits, according to the company. The new item will cost $3.99 and will be available with your choice of a Classic, Spicy, or Honey Mustard spread. Chicken wraps send social media into a tizzy Popeyes appeared to instigate the latest fast food chicken battle on May 30 when it took a jab at McDonald's X post from April 15 hinting at a possible return date for the Snack Wrap. McDonald's post from April 15 read: "snack wraps 0x.14.2025," hinting that the menu item would return on the 14th day of an unidentified month in 2025. "Chicken wraps 0x.02.2025," Popeyes said on May 30. On June 3, McDonald's posted "snack wrap 07.10.2025" on X, followed by a long post giving a behind-the-scenes look at how the company made the decision to bring the Snack Wrap back. Popeyes responded to that post on the same day with another jab at McDonald's. Popeyes also took to another social media platform, Instagram, to poke fun at McDonald's. Popeyes was among the first to comment on McDonald's post announcing the Snack Wraps, saying "glad we could make that happen," with a smirking emoji. In addition to the brands going at each other on social media, customers are also expressing excitement about both menu items. Gabe Hauari is a national trending news reporter at USA TODAY.
