NJ elementary teacher accused of sexually abusing student, having his child when he was 13 indicted
A New Jersey elementary school teacher was indicted for allegedly abusing a student over the course of several years, while it is also being reported that she gave birth to the boy's child.
Laura Caron, 34, a former fifth-grade teacher at Middle Township Elementary School, is accused of engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the student who had been residing in her home, the Cape May County Prosecutor's Office said.

The abuse allegedly started when the boy was 11 in 2016 and carried on for four years until 2020 when he was 15.
During this time period, prosecutors said, Caron was employed as a fifth-grade teacher at the Middle Township Elementary School.
Police began their investigation last year after receiving a tip that the victim's father had made a post on Facebook claiming that Caron's 5-year-old child looked like his son, Fox 29 reported, citing court documents.
The outlet reported that Caron had taught the victim and at least one of his siblings.

The boy's family later became friends with Caron and at some point, the victim and his siblings began staying with Caron once or twice a week, before they began living with Caron permanently from 2016 to 2020, the outlet reported.

Court documents also allege that the victim confirmed to police that he was in a sexual relationship with Caron and that he was the father of her young child.
The child was born when the victim was 13 years old.

A friend of Caron's told The New York Post that the accused threw a baby shower for the child and told friends that the father was 'out of the picture.'

Caron was arrested in January, with the grand jury's indictment coming down last week.
She is now charged with aggravated sexual assault, which carries a penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison, in addition to sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, which each carry potential penalties of five to 10 years, Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey H. Sutherland announced.

The prosecutor's office did not mention anything about the child in its press releases.

'These allegations are deeply disturbing, particularly given the position of trust the defendant held in relation to the victim,' Sutherland said.
'Our office remains committed to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community and will continue to aggressively investigate and prosecute those who violate that trust,' he added.

Mass shooting in Mexico leaves 11 dead and more injured
At least 11 people have been killed, including a teenager, and more wounded in a shooting in the central Mexican city of Irapuato, authorities say. The attorney general's office in Guanajuato, the violence-plagued state where Irapuato is located, said that 20 others were hospitalised with gunshot wounds. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said earlier on Wednesday that the victims included children, although the attorney general's office later confirmed only one casualty was a minor, aged 17. "It is very unfortunate what happened. An investigation is under way," Sheinbaum said. Local media reported the shooting happened during an evening party celebrating a Catholic holiday, the Nativity of John the Baptist. The party was held outdoors and was being broadcast live on Facebook when the attackers arrived and opened fire, according to the newspaper AM. Police arrest man wanted in connection with threatening customer at Mass. 7-Eleven with gun
Webster police arrested a man last week who was wanted in connection with threatening a 7-Eleven customer with a gun late last month, the department announced Monday. Webster resident Alfredo Rivera-Luquis, 28, is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident, Webster police said in a Facebook post. Around 6:35 a.m. on Sunday, May 25, a man reported to Webster police that another man had just pointed a handgun at him while he was in line at the 7-Eleven on Main Street, police said. The officer investigating the incident soon learned that the suspect — who was later identified as Rivera-Luquis — approached the victim from behind and challenged him to a fight. The victim told Rivera-Luquis to back off, but he responded by taking a handgun out of a fanny pack and putting the barrel to the victim's chest, police said. Rivera-Luquis then released the gun's magazine to show the victim it was loaded. Several other 7-Eleven customers ran to the back of the convenience store in fear before Rivera-Luquis drove away from the scene, police said. Shortly after 10 a.m. that day, the victim called police to tell them Rivera-Luquis' car was parked on School Street. Officers were able to recover the handgun used during the incident, and police obtained a warrant for Rivera-Luquis' arrest out of Dudley District Court, police said. Around 6:40 a.m. on June 18, an officer noticed Rivera-Luquis on School Street and arrested him. Webster police also said the department has seen 'a dramatic increase' in gun-related incidents and firearms seizures over the past few weeks.
