Security forces kill 54 terrorists infiltrating through Pakistan-Afghanistan border
Security forces successfully foiled an infiltration attempt by Khawarij terrorists from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, killing 54 militants, the military's media wing said on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the movement of the militants was detected near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border on the night of April 25-26 and 26-27. Security forces swiftly responded, triggering a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours.
The ISPR reported that the terrorists attempted to infiltrate from the Hassan Khel area in North Waziristan but were intercepted and neutralised by a swift response from Pakistani forces. During the operation, a significant cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was also recovered from the slain terrorists.
According to intelligence reports cited by ISPR, the militants were acting under the directives of their 'foreign handlers' and were planning major terrorist attacks inside Pakistan.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi hailed the operation as a major success, saying, 'Today is a significant day for us. Our security forces had timely intelligence about the infiltration attempt, allowing them to encircle the terrorists from three sides and eliminate 54 Khawarij— the highest number killed in a single operation to date.'
He further revealed that intelligence agencies had been monitoring the situation for several days, noting that external elements were pressuring the militants to infiltrate Pakistan urgently and carry out attacks. Border surveillance and security measures have been significantly enhanced in response to these threats.
On Saturday, two soldiers were martyred and 15 terrorists were killed during three separate operations in the KP province.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted on Friday and Saturday in Karak, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan districts.
In Karak, security forces engaged a militant hideout, killing eight terrorists in a fierce exchange.
Another four were eliminated in North Waziristan, while three more were taken down in South Waziristan's Gomal Zam area.
The fallen soldiers were identified as Lance Naik Usman Mohmand, 28, from Charsadda, and Sepoy Imran Khan, 26, from Kurram, both of whom fought valiantly before embracing martyrdom.

Pakistan extends condolences to India
Top Pakistani leader on Thursday sent condolences to India over plane trajedy. President Asif Ali Zardari expressed sorrow over the tragic loss of life in the plane crash that occurred in Ahmedabad, India on Thursday. "Our heartfelt sympathies and condolences are with the families of the victims who have lost their loved ones in the air crash," the President said. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound grief over the tragic crash of an Air India flight near Ahmedabad, which claimed the lives of more than 200 people, including passengers and crew members. The premier conveyed his condolences through a post on X, stating: "Saddened by the tragic crash of Air India flight near Ahmedabad today. We extend our condolences to the families of the victims grieving this immense loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this heartbreaking tragedy." Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also expressed sorrow on the social media platform, writing: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic crash of Air India Flight AI171 near Ahmedabad today. Our heartfelt condolences go out to the families and loved ones of all aboard. Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected." Finance Bill: FPCCI demands withdrawal of anti-business measures
KARACHI: On behalf of the entire business, industry and trade community of Pakistan Atif Ikram Sheikh, President FPCCI, has demanded that the government should withdraw harsh and anti-business taxation measures from the Finance Bill before it is passed through the parliament. What the country needs are a pro-business, investment-friendly and growth-oriented fiscal policy framework as the economy has stabilized and poised for growth, he added. Atif Ikram Sheikh maintained that the tax collection target can only be achieved if industrialists and exporters are taken onboard through a comprehensive consultative process. However, he lamented, budget misses the measures needed to enable the business community to materialize the vision of PM to achieve export-led growth. He maintained that sweeping discretionary authorities given to the taxmen would be detrimental to business and investor confidence in the country – and, will give rise to harassment, corruption and maladministration. FPCCI Chief elaborated that it is an established fact and practice globally that the more a tax collector is allowed to intervene or interact with the taxpayer, the more it is likely to undermine the principles of fairness, transparency and impartiality due to increased role of human-to-human interaction and human judgement becomes a nuisance. Therefore, we do not need to reinvent the wheel in this matter, he added. Atif Ikram Sheikh appreciated the reduction in super tax; downward rationalization of tax slabs for salaried individuals; simplification of income tax return form for salaried class and SMEs – as it was one of FPCCI's longstanding demands – and the much needed increase in the defence spending to ensure geo-economics, trade routes, supply lines and geostrategic security and integrity of the country. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon, SVP FPCCI, demanded that fixed tax regime (FTR) should be restored for exporters in its original form and shape for a long-term duration to bring clarity, certainty and consistency in the taxation policies. We can only attract FDI and domestic investment, if we remain competitive as a country, he added. Saquib Fayyaz Magoon highlighted that instead of broadening Export Facilitation Scheme (EFS) through including local manufacturers in its scope – in line with the aggregated feedback of the all sectors and industries through the apex trade bodies' platform of FPCCI – the government has imposed 18% sales tax on raw materials; which will result in increased cost of production; supply line disruptions and lack of competitiveness in the regional and international markets for Pakistani products. SVP FPCCI also expressed his resentment that FPCCI's recommendation to bring special incentives packages for the IT & ITeS; Mines & Minerals and Fishing industries in the Federal Budget 2025 – 26 has been ignored.
