Special musical to mark 80th Liberation Day in Jersey
A Jersey primary school has started rehearsals for a special musical to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day.St Mary's School pupils have been learning the lines and songs for Make Do And Mend which was originally written to mark the 50th anniversary of Liberation Day.It follows the story of a character called Collette who keeps a diary stating in 1939, showing what life was like during the Occupation in the Second World War.The play has been adapted to include more children and the pupils will perform the musical at Jersey Arts Centre on 6 May in the build up to Liberation Day.
Annabella, 10, is playing the lead role of Collette while Mia, 11, is playing the role of Collette's mother.She said: "It's been really fun. It's a lot of words to learn but I think with time and effort that I can learn them all.""The play has definitely helped me understand the Occupation and what ordinary families had to do to survive."Mia added: "I've really enjoyed rehearsals because you know you're going to be performing on the Arts Centre stage."
St Mary's School headteacher Maria Stegenwalner adapted the musical from the original and has been helping with rehearsals.She said: "I worked for the headteacher who wrote this in 1955." She said the writer had been "worried that lots of the stories from that time would disappear and children wouldn't know what happened".Ms Stegenwalner added: "We are really early in rehearsals but the pupils keep finding new little things that crop up that they hadn't considered before about the Occupation."The school had asked for help making the costumes for children playing German soldiers and costume designer Denise Renoulf has offered to help.

The Survivors centers on a tragedy that occurred fifteen years ago, where a storm has devastated the coastal town of Evelyn Bay and taken three young people: Kieran's older brother, Finn, Mia's best friend, Gabby, and Finn's friend, Toby. Generally Netflix would gauge numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly. Other times, it can take months before a decision over a show's future is made. So far, Sara: Woman in the Shadows has had a good reaction online from critics and audiences alike. Given the way this show is set up, and the ending we receive, we're predicting that this will not be renewed for a second season. The series has lots of potential, but we do get most of the big plot points wrapped up and the story does finish conclusively, with our characters confronting the past once and for all. Having said that, we do also know that completion rate is a massive metric for these streamers so that could play a pivotal role here. What we know about season 2 so far: Barely anything is known about The Survivors season 2 at this point given Netflix haven't officially renewed or cancelled this one. Given the first season's conclusion, it does seem very unlikely to get the nod for another season but we'll have to wait and see. The final episode resolves all the conflicts and mysteries, delivering a powerful, emotional ending and closure for the survivors. The ending suggests a path towards healing as the survivors gather to honour Gabby's memory, and perhaps a step towards reconciliation. If it is picked up, we can expect another 6 episodes, and perhaps more mysteries from the past brought forward. . Diddy trial latest: Anonymous ex-girlfriend of Sean Combs giving evidence - after judge threatens to throw rapper out of court
19:23:35 Third alleged victim 'Jane' begins her testimony The government calls "Jane" to the stand. Jane, who is giving evidence under a pseudonym, is a former girlfriend of Sean "Diddy" Combs. After Cassie Ventura and "Mia", a former personal assistant to the hip-hop mogul, she is the third alleged victim to give evidence during this trial. Jane was allegedly engaged in commercial sex acts "as a result of force, fraud or coercion" by Combs. "The defendant used lies, drugs, threats, and violence to force and coerce, first, Cassie, and later Jane, to have sex with him in front of male escorts," prosecutors said in their opening statement at the beginning of the trial. Judge Arun Subramanian tells the court her real name will not be mentioned in court. Evidence monitors have been switched off in overflow rooms. 19:18:03 Investigative analyst answers questions on Cassie's mobile phones Enrique Santos tells the court he is an investigative analyst for the US attorney's office for the Southern District of New York. His duties include forensic examination of mobile phones, tablets and other devices with GPS technology, the jury is told. Santos says he has carried out close to 3,000 mobile phone "extractions", which means preserving and analysing electronic data, during his career, and tells the court about the methods and tools he uses for his work. He says he was asked to extract three iPhones for this case and later found out they belonged to Cassie Ventura. They were generally in good shape, he says. Santos says investigators recovered several deleted records from the devices. The government calls investigative analyst Enrique Santos as the next witness. 18:32:13 Judge threatens to remove Diddy from court for nodding at jurors Before proceedings get under way again, we have an update from court during the break. Judge Arun Subramanian has threatened to remove Sean "Diddy" Combs from the courtroom, telling lawyers he has been "clear" there should be no facial expressions to the jury. During one line of questioning today, the rapper was "nodding" and looking at jurors, the judge said. "That is absolutely unacceptable." Defence lawyer Marc Agnifilo tells the judge this will not happen again. "If it happens again, I will give an instruction to the jury or it could result in the exclusion of your client from the courtroom," the judge said. Court artist Jane Rosenberg, who has been watching Combs in court for the past months, told Sky News's US partner NBC News that he has been making facial expressions at jurors since the start of the trial. Combs has been attempting to interact with various members of the jury, both affirmatively and negatively depending on the testimony, she said. She tells the court she is not receiving any money for appearing in court, but is giving evidence "to seek justice". "Did you remember every single detail?" Smyster asks. "No," Bongolan replies. Smyser: "Are there things you will never forget?" Bongolan: "Absolutely, I will never forget him holding me on that balcony." Smyser: "How did you feel?" This is also when the balcony-dangling incident at Cassie's apartment in Los Angeles is alleged to have happened. Defence lawyer Nicole Westmoreland says it can't be true that Combs injured Bryana Bongolan on that date as "one person cannot be in California and New York at the same time". Bongolan says she can't remember about the date. During her earlier testimony, the court heard of a photo of a bruise on her leg that she said was taken a few hours after the incident. Metadata from this photo shows it was taken on 26 September 2016, the court hears. Asked if she has lied to the jury, Bongolan says she "can't agree". 17:25:32 'I don't want any problems,' witness says she told Diddy The court now hears Bryana Bongolan returned to Cassie Ventura's LA apartment within a fortnight of Sean "Diddy" Combs allegedly dangling her over the edge of a balcony on the 17th floor. Ventura invited Bongolan to stay over for a night of drinking, smoking and cooking, text messages showed. Asked if she returned to the same place less than two weeks after Combs "caused you significant injuries and terror", she says she did. Bongolan says she was "trying to be cool" with Combs and that she had told him, "I don't want any problems". 17:14:59 Witness went to Diddy concert after alleged balcony incident Returning to the alleged balcony dangling incident, defence attorney Nicole Westmoreland asks witness Bryana Bongolan if she was screaming. "Yes, I was screaming," she replies. Asked if anyone else called the police, she says she has no idea. As the defence has done with other witnesses, Westmoreland points out that Bongolan kept socialising with Sean "Diddy" Combs even after incidents of alleged violence. Bongolan admits she shared cannabis with Combs on an occasion following the alleged balcony incident, but says she was trying to maintain some distance. She confirms she later went to one of his concerts, in October 2016, and to a private party the day after. Asked if she was wearing a neck brace, she said she needed after the balcony incident, Bongolan replies: "I probably should have."

Fans have just days to watch ‘perfect' rom-com that swept board at Oscars
A rom-com musical that earned its main star a Best Actress Oscar is available on Netflix - but not for much longer. A romantic musical that dazzled critics, stormed the awards season and left audiences swooning is about to vanish from BBC iPlayer. La La Land (2016), the film that reignited the movie musical for a new generation, will leave the platform on June 9. Damien Chazelle's film is a full-hearted tribute to old Hollywood, youthful ambition, and the romanticising of dreams that don't come true. Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, the film follows aspiring actress Mia and jazz pianist Sebastian as they navigate the highs and heartbreaks of chasing stardom in Los Angeles. Their romance, full of vintage flourishes and spontaneous song, plays out against the backdrop of a city where every barista is auditioning, and every traffic jam could become a dance number. The opening sequence - a musical number set on a gridlocked LA freeway - became an instant classic and set the tone for a film that blends fantasy and realism. Chazelle, who had just come off Whiplash, directed with a master's eye for style and rhythm. But La La Land's emotional power comes largely from its two leads. Gosling oozes cool as the jazz purist with a dream of owning his own club, while Stone brings warmth and fragility to Mia, a woman always on the cusp of both failure and greatness. At the Oscars, La La Land famously won six awards - including Best Director and Best Actress for Stone - and briefly claimed Best Picture before the now-infamous envelope mix-up, which ended up seeing Moonlight take the biggest prize. That viral moment aside, the film's impact was undeniable: a critical and commercial triumph, and the highest-grossing original live-action musical of all time at the time of release. On Rotten Tomatoes, where it holds a sparkling 91% score, viewers still sing its praises. One reviewer said: 'La la Land truly depicts the atmosphere that Hollywood brings to the world, everyone with their ambitions trying to bring them to life, but at what cost". Another added: 'From the way it was written and portrayed by the actors to the way it was received, it's all amazing. I really enjoyed watching this movie because of its colours and shots - you can really see that somebody put effort and heart into this." A third wrote simply: 'Masterpiece. My favourite musical of all time. My favourite movie of all time." The soundtrack - with songs like 'City of Stars' and 'Audition (The Fools Who Dream)' - became a sensation in its own right. Justin Hurwitz's original score, paired with lyrics by Pasek and Paul, brought a new wave of jazz-infused ballads into the public mind, and helped secure the film's legacy.
