Five suspects wanted in multiple distraction thefts in Toronto

Toronto police have released photos of five suspects wanted in connection with multiple distraction thefts and frauds throughout the city.
Police said they received reports of five incidents between Oct. 9, 2024, and Feb. 28, 2025.
In each incident, the suspects would approach an elderly victim using an ATM and some of them would allegedly distract the senior while another steals the bank card.
The suspects would go on to use the card and withdraw money, police allege.
Police said they are searching for three men and two women between 30 and 50 years old.
One male suspect stands five-foot-ten to six-foot-two with a medium build, dark-coloured hair, and a full beard. The second male suspect stands five-foot-eight to five-foot-10 with a medium build, dark-coloured hair, and a beard. The third male suspect stands five-foot-seven to five-foot-10 also with a medium build, dark-coloured hair, and a goatee.
Meanwhile, one female suspect is described as standing between five-foot-two and five-foot-eight with a medium build. The other female suspect stands five-foot-five to five-foot-eight with a heavy build and long brown hair.

Merritt, B.C., hotel fire deemed suspicious by RCMP
Police in B.C.'s Interior say no one was hurt in a suspicious fire that broke out early Friday morning at the Comfort Inn & Suites hotel in Merritt, about 70 kilometres southwest of Kamloops. "A significant section of the building was engulfed, resulting in extensive damage. Fire investigators and Merritt RCMP officers remain on scene today gathering evidence and determining the cause of the blaze," Cpl. James Grandy said in a media release. Leo Charlie and his family were staying at the hotel when the fire broke out just before 2 a.m. PT. "Everyone was sleeping," he said. "All of a sudden the fire alarms started going off. It was dark and then I started hearing people running down the hallway yelling that there's a fire. It was kinda scary." Charlie, his wife and two children, aged five and seven, made their way down a fire escape to safety. He estimates he saw about 100 people in the parking lot who had evacuated the hotel. "It was pretty intense not knowing what was going on and having your kids and family, and at that time of night," he said. "The flames and smoke was coming out of the left side of the building." Like Charlie, a number of people staying at the hotel were in town for their graduation ceremony from the Nicola Valley Institute of Technology. He said people displaced from the hotel were being sent to the Mission Community Centre where alternate accommodation was being arranged.

Kitchener woman charged in Guelph crash involving stolen van
A woman from Kitchener is facing more than a dozen charges after a crash in Guelph. Emergency services were called to the intersection of Wellington Street West and Imperial Road South just before 7:30 a.m. Thursday. Investigators said the driver of a Kia van crossed the centre line and hit another vehicle head-on. The driver of the van was taken to hospital with serious injuries. Police later discovered the van had been stolen and licence plates from another stolen vehicle had been attached. During a search of the vehicle, officers found several empty alcohol cans around the driver's seat, suspected crystal methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, hydromorphone, a scale and drug packaging. Officers said they also found a large number of identification documents and cards in various names. A 29-year-old Kitchener woman has been charged with impaired driving, dangerous driving, possessing stolen property over $5,000, possession stolen property under $5,000, four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking and 11 counts of possessing identity documents.

Woman assaulted after warning man not to step into downtown Guelph traffic
A Guelph man has been charged after police said he assaulted a woman who had been trying to help him. The Guelph Police Service said a man and woman were waiting to cross Macdonell Street around 3:40 p.m. when another man stepped out in front of traffic, prompting the woman to yell out a warning so he wouldn't get hit. The man turned, hit the woman with his shopping bag, and yelled at her. Some spittle also flew from his mouth and landed on her face. Police found the man nearby and arrested him. The 43-year-old was charged with assault and breaching a probation order.
