Lottery player wins top prize — his second in under two months. ‘Crying tears of joy'
A Maryland lottery player took home a top prize from a scratch-off ticket — his second in under two months.
As the Greenbelt man scratched his $5 Lots of Cash ticket while he was home with his wife, he noticed he matched a winning number, Maryland Lottery officials said in a Feb. 18 news release.
That match came with a top prize of $50,000.
'We were happy and crying tears of joy,' the subcontractor told lottery officials.
Less than two months earlier, the man also won a top $50,000 top prize on a $5 20X The Cash scratch-off ticket, lottery officials said.
The winner told lottery officials 'he can't believe that he won twice.'
'I will see you again next month,' he said in the release.
Greenbelt is about a 30-mile drive southwest from Baltimore.

Retired grandma wins big lottery prize during Maryland pit-stop. ‘Joyful moment'
A grandmother who's been a faithful lottery player ended up scoring big after buying scratch-offs during a pit-stop, Maryland officials said. The retiree has been playing games for more than two decades, and stopped by a Baltimore store to pick up her weekly games before going home to eat dinner, according to a June 10 news release by the Maryland Lottery. After finishing up her meal, she scratched her tickets then scanned them using the lottery app — she had no idea her $100,000 Crossword 8th Edition would score her the jackpot win of $100,000, officials said. After scanning the ticket, the woman was prompted with a message that read, 'Winner, take to Lottery,' the release said. 'I was quite surprised and excited that I won that much money, but not surprised that I won,' she told lottery officials. That's when she told her husband to come into the room so he could double check the win, officials said. The two had a 'joyful moment' after realizing the win was real, officials said. The lucky winner plans to pay bills and 'enjoy her retirement a little more comfortably,' according to the release. 'I'm retired, so I plan to enjoy my winnings,' she told lottery officials, but she has no intention to stop playing games, officials said.

Lottery player since 1973 wins big prize. ‘You've gotta play to win'
A longtime lottery player's persistence paid off with a big win in Maryland, officials said. The Clarksburg man, who's been playing the lottery since 1973, won $250,000 via Pick 5, the Maryland Lottery said in a June 2 news release. Pick 5 is one of his mainstay games, along with Pick 3 and Cash4Life, lottery officials said. He's scored some other wins recently, including $5,000 playing Pick 5 and three Cash4Life wins at $2,500, according to lottery officials. For the $250,000 win, he chose his own number combination and bought five tickets at a convenience store in Frederick, lottery officials said. 'There was nothing special about the combination, 39943, but the first three digits caught his eye when they hit on a different drawing. He's been playing that combination for more than a year,' according to lottery officials. The man plans to put his winnings in the bank, and 'eventually, it'll go into my house,' he told lottery officials. He had some words of wisdom for other lottery players, per the release, including 'don't go beyond your means.' He also said, 'The rule of thumb is, you've gotta play to win,' lottery officials said. Clarksburg is about a 45-mile drive west from Baltimore.
