COVID-19 death toll in Bangladesh reaches 22 so far this month
Dhaka, June 29 (UNI) Bangladesh recorded two new COVID-19 deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll to 22 so far this month.
The country on June 5 recorded its first COVID-19 fatality this year when a man died from the infectious disease in the capital Dhaka.
The country also reported seven new COVID-19 cases, with the daily test positivity rate jumping to 3.87 percent in the 24 hours till 8:00 a.m. local time on Saturday.
Official data showed that 174 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Amid a fresh rise in COVID-19 infections in several neighboring countries, the Bangladeshi interim government has
asked people to refrain from traveling to those destinations unless absolutely necessary.
The authorities here have also instructed relevant departments to enhance health screening and surveillance measures at all ports to contain the spread of the infection.

Over 5,000 pigs dead as African Swine Fever continues to ravage Mizoram
Aizawl, June 29(UNI) Mizoram's ongoing battle with African Swine Fever (ASF) has taken a grim turn, with the death toll among pigs surpassing 5,000 this year, officials from the state's Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department confirmed on Sunday. According to department data, the total pig casualty linked to the current ASF outbreak now stands at 5,044. On Sunday alone 17 pigs succumbed to the virus across five locations in Siaha district, which has emerged as one of the hardest-hit areas. Authorities have officially declared 73 localities and villages across four districts- Siaha, Lawngtlai, Lunglei and Mamit-as ASF-infected zones. The disease has shown distinct geographic patterns in its spread: while Lunglei and Mamit have reported infections mainly in urban areas, the virus has reached rural communities in Siaha and Lawngtlai districts. Siaha, situated in southern Mizoram, shares a porous international border with Myanmar, and Lawngtlai district is flanked by both Myanmar and Bangladesh. Lunglei is bordered by other Mizoram districts, while Mamit touches the borders of Bangladesh and Tripura- raising concerns about transboundary transmission. Although no culling operations were carried out on Sunday, the cumulative number of pigs culled as a containment measure has climbed to 1,631. The authorities have been carrying out strategic culling in high-risk zones to limit the spread of the highly contagious viral disease, which has no known cure or vaccine. Officials continue to urge pig farmers to follow stringent biosecurity measures and report any signs of illness in their livestock. Maharashtra reports 6 new COVID-19 cases
Maharashtra recorded six COVID-19 cases on Sunday, taking the state's tally of the viral infections so far in this calendar year to 2,488, the health department said. Of the new cases, four are from Mumbai and two from the limits of the Pune Municipal Corporation, an official statement said. Madrid, June 29 (UNI) Spain midfielder Aitana Bonmati has been discharged from hospital after she was diagnosed with viral meningitis, just days before the 2025 UEFA Women's European Championship starts in Switzerland. The 27-year-old did not train on Thursday ahead of Spain's friendly against Japan on Friday in Leganes, Spain, which they won 3-1. She shared a picture on Instagram of herself watching the match from a hospital bed in Madrid, where she was taken with doctors from the Spanish Football Federation, who later confirmed the diagnosis.
