Shot putter Jonah sets new personal best record in South Korea
NATIONAL shot putter Jonah Chang Rigan broke his personal best at the Asian Athletics Federation (AAF) in Gumi, South Korea, a short while ago.
The 22-year-old athlete threw 18.05 metres (m) to improve his personal best of 17.11m set at the Queensland Open in Brisbane in March.
However, in Thursday's (May 29) tournament, Jonah finished 10th out of 12 participants.
The gold medal went to Iranian Mohammadreza Tayebiseifkoti who threw 20.32m while Chinese athlete Xing Jialiang won silver (19.97m) and Saudi Arabia's Mohammed Daoud Tolu won bronze (19.92m).
Meanwhile, the national men's 4x400m quartet, consisting of Anas Ariffin, Luqmanul Hakim Khairul Akmal, Umar Osman and Muhammad Sayyid Amin, finished seventh with a time of 3 minutes 14.55 seconds (s).
The gold medal was won by the Qatari quartet with a time of 3:03.52s while the silver went to the Indian squad (3:03.67s) and the bronze was won by China (3:03.73s).
Meanwhile, national discus thrower Queenie Ting finished eighth out of 10 participants after six attempts with the best throw of 47.96m at the championship.

French police detain dozens after football celebrations
FRENCH authorities detained 79 people in the second such wave of arrests during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's football Champions League win, a police chief said Monday. The PSG thrashed Inter Milan by a record 5-0 in Saturday evening's final in Munich, flying back to Paris on Sunday for a triumphal parade along the Champs Elysees, then celebrations in a packed Parc des Princes stadium on the edge of the French capital. The PSG winning the biggest prize in European club football for the first time sparked delirious festivities in France, but was marred by violence. On Sunday, 'we saw a resurgence of individuals driven by malicious intent who were not really PSG supporters,' Paris police chief Laurent Nunez told RTL radio. 'We arrested 79 people, some of them in the night,' he said, adding that order had been restored before dawn. Some were detained over taking barriers and briefly blocking the ring road around Paris, while others had tried to vandalise businesses or fired fireworks on the Champs Elysees, he said. On Saturday night, police had made more than 500 arrests across France, the interior ministry said, after more than 200 cars were torched and police clashed with youths. PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron condemned Sunday 'unacceptable' violence during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League final victory, as he welcomed the triumphant team to the Elysee palace. 'Nothing can justify what has happened in the last few hours, the violent clashes are unacceptable,' Macron said. 'We will pursue, we will punish, we will be relentless,' he added before congratulating the players on their win. Two people died and police made nearly 600 arrests across France overnight as fans celebrated PSG's 5-0 triumph over Inter Milan in Munich on Saturday. 'The violent clashes that took place are unacceptable and have come at a heavy cost: two people are dead, around 30 police officers and several firefighters have been injured,' Macron said. 'My thoughts are also with the police officer in Coutances who is currently in a coma,' he added, referring to the town in western France where a police officer was struck in the eye by a firework.
