Meghan's wedding anniversary tribute to Prince Harry

The Advertiser20-05-2025

Meghan Markle has paid tribute to Prince Harry for giving her "a lifetime of stories" as the couple mark their seventh wedding anniversary.
Meghan shared on Instagram a mood board which included pictures of their children Archie and Lilibet.
"Seven years of marriage. A lifetime of stories. Thanks to all of you (whether by our side, or from afar) who have loved and supported us throughout our love story – we appreciate you. Happy anniversary!," she captioned the post.
The photos spanned the couple's time together – from early selfies in London to private moments such as Archie's ultrasound scan and their trip to Botswana for their second date.
The board featured snaps from their wedding day, as well as a handwritten lyric sheet of Ben E King's song Stand by Me, which was performed at their ceremony in St George's Chapel.
Among other photos was a previously unseen picture of Meghan's coat of arms, designed in collaboration with the College of Arms and approved by the late Queen Elizabeth when Meghan became a duchess upon marrying Harry.
The post also had images of Archie, now six, and Princess Lilibet, who turned three on Monday.
There were also snapshots of family life at their LA home, including a tea party in the garden.
Reflecting on their wedding day, Meghan once said: "Let's call this a modern fairytale. Once upon a time, there was a girl from L.A..
"Some people called her an actress. And there was a guy from London. Some people called him a prince. All of those people didn't fully get it.
"Because this is the love story of a boy and a girl who were meant to be together."

Meghan reveals ‘hardest part' of new job and how Prince Harry helps

Don't miss out on the headlines from Royals. Followed categories will be added to My News. IN LONDON Meghan has opened up about her struggles as a working mother, crediting Prince Harry with helping her keep the 'balance' in their lives. In a bonus episode of her podcast Confessions of a Female Founder, released on Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex told guest Tina Knowles (AKA Beyoncé's mum), that keeping everything in check while working towards a goal is 'one of the hardest lessons' to earn. Meghan went on to detail some of her strategies for slowing down and being present in her life, including simply '[taking] a minute to breathe' and 'having a date night'. She added: '[Harry and I] have a date night tonight.' Meghan released a bonus episode of her podcast. Picture: Instagram It featured Tina Knowles. The first season of the Duchess of Sussex's show, With Love, Meghan, was released in March and featured eight episodes, each with different guests. According to royal and entertainment commentator Kinsey Schofield, the country singer's team was 'livid' at the request. 'Because no, they don't want to risk Dolly's reputation Q score [and] her popularity by associating with Meghan Markle,' she alleged in a recent podcast episode of The Nerve with Maureen Callahan. 'They knew that this ask was just to give Meghan Markle credibility in this lifestyle space, a space that Dolly does have a lot of credibility in. 'Dolly is not only incredibly popular and loved by the general public, but she also is somebody who can float around within these different places. 'Her team really feels like Meghan was trying to take advantage of her popularity.' Originally published as Meghan reveals 'hardest part' of new job and how Prince Harry helps

Prince Harry explores severing royal ties by adopting Princess Diana's surname

Prince Harry reportedly explored dropping his royal surname in favour of Spencer, the maiden name of his late mother, Princess Diana, as tensions with the royal family continue to simmer. According to sources who spoke with the Daily Mail, the 40-year-old royal 'actively explored ways to assume his mother's surname' and even raised the idea with his uncle, Charles Earl Spencer, during a recent trip to the UK. 'They had a very amicable conversation,' a friend of Harry's told the outlet. 'Spencer advised him against taking such a step,' citing the legal and logistical difficulties that would come with abandoning the Mountbatten-Windsor name. Had he gone ahead, the move would have marked a significant break from the royal identity passed down through generations. The name Mountbatten-Windsor is a blend of Queen Elizabeth II's royal family name and Prince Philip's adopted surname, chosen when he became a naturalised British citizen and relinquished his Greek and Danish royal titles in 1947. The name traces back to Philip's maternal uncle, Lord Louis Mountbatten, a major influence on both Philip and King Charles III. Prince Harry, born Henry Charles Albert David, has rarely used a surname publicly, instead going by titles. During his school years and military service, he and his brother William used the surname Wales, based on their father's title, the then Prince of Wales. In uniform, Harry was known simply as 'Harry Wales'. He became the Duke of Sussex in 2018, a title granted by Queen Elizabeth II upon his marriage to Meghan Markle, who then became the Duchess of Sussex. Despite stepping back from royal duties in 2020, Meghan has publicly embraced 'Sussex' as the family name, saying she wanted to share a surname with her children. In an episode of her Netflix show With Love, Meghan, she corrected guest Mindy Kaling: 'It's so funny you keep saying 'Meghan Markle', you know I'm Sussex now.' 'You have kids and you go, 'No, I share my name with my children',' she added. 'It just means so much to go, this is OUR family name. Our little family name'. Controversy recently flared over claims Meghan has used the 'HRH' title privately, despite an agreement with Buckingham Palace to forgo the styling. The dispute emerged after a friend received a gift basket accompanied by a card signed, 'HRH The Duchess of Sussex.' Prince Harry remains publicly estranged from senior members of the royal family but has expressed a desire to reconcile. In a May interview following the rejection of his legal appeal regarding UK security arrangements, he told the BBC, 'There have been so many disagreements between me and some of my family… Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things but… there's no point in continuing to fight anymore.' 'Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has,' he added. 'He won't speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.'
