‘Classless' reaction to Magda Szubanski's cancer diagnosis
There has been a 'classless' reaction to Magda Szubanski's cancer news on social media.
One day after the Aussie comedian revealed she was diagnosed with a rare stage-4 blood cancer, her push for vaccinations during the Covid era has been brought back to the forefront.
During the pandemic, the 64-year-old urged her fellow Aussies to get the Covid jabs – she even dressed up as her famous Kath & Kim character Sharon Strzelecki for an ad promoting the vaccine for the Victorian Government at the time.
Now, some X users have suggested that Szubanski's Covid vaccinations are the reason for her 'turbo cancer' – an anti-vaccination conspiracy theory that alleges people vaccinated against Covid are suffering from a high incidence of fast-developing cancers.
'Very sad to hear another experimental vaccine pusher has been diagnosed with something horrible. I guess you must 'face the consequences' of your choice now?' tweeted one user, as another wondered, 'How many Covid shots did you have? I'm not saying they caused it but it's an awfully big coincidence so many people who had multiple shots of got turbo cancer.'
'Interesting how many celebrities and 'TV personalities' in Australia who publicly pushed an experimental therapeutic are now suddenly falling very ill. Someone should do a tally,' another added, as one tweeted, 'I'm sorry but that's what happens when you get paid to push lies from the WHO [World Health Organisation].'
And the onslaught continued:
'She was asking for 5th booster in 2022. wonder she's at now?'
'Guess pushing certain injections didn't turn out so well for her.'
'Zero sympathy.'
'It's good to see that karma still works.'
However, among the criticism were people who came to Szubanski's defence.
'As if cancer didn't exist before Covid and vaccinations. Yiu guys are seriously cooked,' one tweeted, as another told the harsh critics, 'Classless of you to post this. Why drop to the level?'
'I can't believe you are rejoicing about this,' another sympathised with the star, as one commented, 'The posts here are highly disrespectful. No need for this rubbish no matter which side of the fence you sit on. Have some decency. BTW, these things can happen to anyone. Sometimes you don't have a choice.'
Szubanski revealed her private health battle on Thursday, telling her Instagram followers she was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma, a rare and fast-moving blood cancer.
The star described her diagnosis as 'serious' and confirmed she has begun 'the Nordic protocol' … 'one of the best treatments available' for the disease that was randomly picked up during a recent breast screen.
'Hello, my lovelies. The head is shaved in anticipation of it all falling out in a couple of weeks,' she said in her video. 'I have just been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive lymphoma. It is one of the nasty ones unfortunately.'
'It's pretty confronting. It is a full on one. But new treatments keep coming down the pipeline all the time … I've just got to [laughs]. What do you? What are you gonna do?
'I'm being lovingly cared for by friends and family. My medical team is brilliant and I've never felt more held by the people around me,' she said.
'I'll be lying very low while my immune system takes a hammering … To be honest, I've been feeling pretty ratsh*t for ages. So I asked for extra bloods and – voila!
'So the take away is – get tested and listen to your body! For now, just know I'm in good hands, good spirits – but I reserve my human right to be a cranky old moll.'

Two men rescued after paragliding mishaps in Sydney, NSW
Don't miss out on the headlines from News. Followed categories will be added to My News. A paraglider is 'lucky to be alive' following a gruelling five-hour rescue after crashing into a cliff on the south coast of Sydney on Saturday afternoon. Paolo, a man in his 50s collided into a cliff near Otford Rd at Stanwell Tops about 1pm on Saturday, before plunging down 10 metres and injuring his shoulder. The five-hour rescue operation was conducted as a joint effort between the NSW Police Rescue, SES crews, specialist paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW, to stabilise and hoist Paolo up the cliff face and through intense bushland to safety. 'I'm so grateful to have this amazing team, they are incredible and yeah, I'll be fine,' Paolo said, while atop a rescue stretcher. 'It was my mistake actually, I did some move. 'Everybody knows where I was, so I was just calm and waited for the rescue'. A paraglider stuck on a perilous cliff face has been rescued. Paolo said he 'can't wait to get out there and get paragliding again very soon'. A paraglider stuck on a perilous cliff face has been rescued. The man was retrieved by vertical rope lift when it was determined he could not be winched out by helicopter. A joint effort was conducted with a helicopter transporting a medical crew to the scene to stabilise the man before the retrieval operation was commenced with the police Rescue, NSW ambulance paramedics, and SES members. In the early hours of Sunday, at 3am, the man was successfully extricated and was taken by road ambulance to Goulburn Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Stern Idol gives Steven Pateman the full set in Australian Steeplechase win
Don't miss out on the headlines from Horse Racing. Followed categories will be added to My News. Star jumper Stern Idol produced a sublime display – under a modern weight-carrying record – to win the Australian Steeplechase (3900m) at Sandown on Sunday. Champion jumps jockey Steven Pateman rated the Ciaron Maher-trained 73kg top weight perfectly in pursuit of a personal milestone, the previously elusive Australian Steeplechase crown. Pateman boasted just about every other domestic jumps feature, including Australian Hurdle (four), Grand National Steeple (four), Grand National Hurdle (four) and Grand Annual Steeple (three), but an Australian Steeplechase win had eluded him before Sunday. He largely dictated the Australian Steeple aboard Stern Idol from on or close to the speed and then fended off the gallant runner-up Leaderboard, trained by Mark Walker, in the home straight. Not Usual Dream and Heir To The Throne rounded out the top four. Leaderboard enjoyed an economical steer from Will Gordon and 7kg weight advantage on Stern Idol. Pateman lauded Stern Idol's performance. 'I wasn't leading from the get go and I was happy for that to unfold,' Pateman said. '73kg leading all the way could've been his undoing. He was awesome. 'It was pretty lonely after the last with 73kg, knowing the second horse had (seven) kilos less. 'He was weighed down, he maintained the gallop but couldn't go any faster because of the weight. 'I was thinking 'I'd never won this race' … the Australian Hurdle and Australian Steeple are absolutely time-honoured events, it's super special.' Bit Of A Lad, saddled by Maher and former co-trainer David Eustace at the time, carried 70kg to win the 2020 Australian Steeple. Mazzacano (2009) lumped 69.5kg, while Thubiaan (2015) and Vindicating (2011) had 69kg handicaps. Pateman said Stern Idol benefited from a campaign – a flat run and two hurdle starts – tailored to the 'target' Australian Steeple. 'He could've run in steeplechases earlier in the year and carried big weights and might've won one but too hard all the time,' he said. 'Today was a target, the way he settled he knew where he was, he knew the trip he had to run out and he was really chill.' Sadly, Treasured Crown failed to finish and was humanely euthanized due a catastrophic leg injury. The second favourite sustained the injury upon landing after the second last jump. Jockey William McCarthy was uninjured. The Cunning Fox launches over a hurdle on his way to winning the Australian Hurdle. Photo:. Meanwhile, Australia's emerging jumps star The Cunning Fox claimed the Australian Hurdle (3900m) from Highland Blaze and Affluential. The Patrick and Michelle Payne-trained jumper is undefeated in six starts over the obstacles. The six-year-old gelding was ridden to victory by his regular rider Tom Ryan.
