Housefull 5 Box Office Day 2: Akshay Kumar Film Sees Strong Growth, Rakes In Rs 54 Crore

Last Updated: Housefull 5 collects Rs 54 crore in India in 2 days; Akshay Kumar film draws crowd with dual endings. The latest installment in the Housefull franchise is off to a strong start at the box office. Housefull 5, helmed by director Tarun Mansukhani, stars Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Nargis Fakhri, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Soundarya Sharma in lead roles. After two days in theatres, the film has collected Rs 54 crore net in India. According to data from Sacnilk, the comedy entertainer earned Rs 24 crore net in India on its opening day. The worldwide collection on Day 1 stood at Rs 40 crore. Day 2, a Saturday, saw an upward trend with the film bringing in an estimated Rs 30 crore net domestically — taking the total to approximately Rs 54 crore so far. The movie maintained a nationwide occupancy of 33.18%, with figures climbing steadily through the day. Chennai, in particular, stood out with a 52% occupancy rate — a strong number for a Hindi-language comedy. With Sunday still ahead before the weekday slowdown, fans and analysts alike are watching to see how far Housefull 5 can go in its opening weekend. A major talking point around the film is its unique twist — it's been released with two alternate endings: Housefull 5 A and Housefull 5 B. Director Tarun Mansukhani shared the origin of this bold move: 'Sajid (Sajid Nadiadwala) sir had this idea about 30 years ago. And finally, he brought it to Housefull 5. And that was one of the most exciting things for me as a director to make a film with two different climaxes." This fresh concept appears to be resonating with moviegoers, adding curiosity and repeat viewings to the film's appeal. However, the film is getting mixed reviews from the critics. News18 Showsha gave it 2.5 stars. An excerpt from the review read, 'What makes the movie slump even lower is the music and the number of songs pushed into the scenes and the screenplay to make the film longer. Imagine dealing with an already stretched script, and then you have to tolerate even the unnecessary dance numbers. If this is the standard of comedy we get from the Housefull franchise, then Nadiadwala has to step up and raise the bar in the next instalment." India's highest-paid comedian, once sold eggs on street, then charged more than Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, used to scare heroes with his…, name was…

Names like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Prabhas, are highest-paid actors today, charging over Rs 150 crore per film precisely. These superstars headline mass entertainers, the genre that majorly dominates the box office. So, it would be difficult to imagine a time when the title of India's highest-paid actor was once held by a comedian. Well, today we will be discussing this talented artist whose impeccable films and hilarious performances etched his name in the Indian Industry forever. In 1960s, he wasn't just India's leading comedian, but also a bankable star in his own right. He was none other than Mehmood, son of Mumtaz Ali, who was a dancer and actor in Bombay Talkies. Mehmood's family faced severe financial challenges due to which his father fell into alcoholism and lost his career. Due to unfortunate circumstances, he became the sole earner of his family. To make ends meet, Mehmood did several odd jobs to survive. He worked as a driver, sold eggs on street, also became a horse-riding instructor and tennis coach. During this difficult phase, he managed to enter the film industry and stared working as a junior artiste. In 1950s, he made his name as comic character actor by appearing in supporting roles like CID and Pyasa. Following that, he led many successful films like Padosan, Bhoot Bungla, Johar Mehmood in Hong Kong, Bombay to Goa, and became the highest-paid actor in the country. Reportedly, Mehmood used to charge Rs 7.5 lakh for just two-week cameos in films at the time. Even superstars like Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Shammi Kapoor were not able to cross this mark until mid-70s. The ace comedian's presence intimated heroes to an extent that they would reject starring with him in the same film. In 1996, he released Dushman Duniya Ka , his final directorial. His final on-screen appearance was in Ghar Bazar , a box office flop. The actor passed away in 2004, leaving millions of his fans shattered and heartbroken.
