BBVA SA Chief Executive Officer Onur Genc said that Banco Sabadell SA shareholders will likely get to decide on his lender's unsolicited bid for the rival before the end of June.
The so-called acceptance period will probably kick off 'in the last piece of the second quarter,' Genc said Tuesday on Bloomberg TV. He added that 'we are in the last inches' to get approval for the offer from the Spanish competition authority.

Nico Williams commences contract extension talks with Athletic Bilbao

Athletic Bilbao and Nico Williams have kicked off talks over a potential contract extension, as the club looks to secure the long-term future of one of their most valuable assets, according to Ben Jacobs. A salary of €10 million is being discussed, while a release clause could be included, and understandably so, given the level of interest in him over the last couple of transfer windows. Advertisement Williams has become a standout figure for Bilbao with 42 direct goal contributions over the last two seasons and is on the radar of several top European clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal. The 22-year-old still has 24 months left on his current deal, which runs till 2027, but Bilbao now are taking proactive steps towards retaining his services. Known for his blistering pace, technical ability, and flair on the flanks, the Spaniard has seen his stock rise rapidly, having played a crucial role in Bilbao's Copa del Rey triumph in April 2024, a few months before starring for Spain en route to Euros glory. Despite being linked with a move away in the past, Williams recently insisted he is happy at the San Mames. Advertisement 'I am very happy at Athletic, it is the club that has given me everything, the one that has bet on me one hundred percent,' he told Spanish radio station El Partidazo. 'I am very happy in Bilbao, and that is all I have to say. Yes, I am quite clear, in the end, as I have told you, Athletic is my home. I am very happy.' Contract talks between Bilbao and Williams are expected to continue over the coming weeks, and the Basque outfit are keen to wrap up a deal to fend off any immediate competition for their marquee winger.

Trump's 'Man-To-Man' Diplomacy Won't Work With Xi Jinping, Warns Former White House Chief Of Staff As Tariff Deadlock Continues

Former acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney has expressed doubt on President Donald Trump's ability to strike a deal with Chinese Premier Xi Jinping. What Happened: Mulvaney, speaking to Bloomberg TV, highlighted a fundamental distinction between both leaders' approaches to diplomacy. "There's a fundamental disconnect here," he said. "Trump wants to talk at the very highest levels. That's not always how the Chinese want to do business." Trump, who is known to prefer direct engagement, wants to have a call with Xi. The White House said it is likely to take place this week. Mulvaney observed that this tactic may not be compatible with how Xi usually operates. "I do not see them being able to pull off a deal the old-fashioned way, which is going through the back channels," he explained. "And I think it'd be very difficult to do a deal going the Trump way, which is only Xi to Trump man-to-man." Why It Matters: Trump likes to communicate directly with leaders, both in case of politics and business, according to Mulvaney, who also served as his budget director in the past. This contrasts with Xi's practice of negotiating and resolving key issues through advisers before any leader-level engagement. Mulvaney also presented a larger critique of Beijing. "They can't steal people's intellectual property. They can't force you into bad deals in order to do business in your country. They can't hide information when they deal with pandemics, like they did with Covid-19," he said. "First-tier nations of the world don't do that. China's going to become a first-tier nation. They need to step up their game." Mulvaney's comments come just as China refuted claims of violating agreements made in Geneva, stating that it 'implemented and consistently upheld' the terms of the deal reached last month. The ministry also rebuked Washington's actions, citing "discriminatory restrictive" measures imposed by the U.S., including curbs on AI chip exports, bans on chip design software, and visa revocations for Chinese students. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. On Wednesday, LIV Golf made their latest move on the players' side, and once again, it's a young star with an extraordinary future. We're talking about none other than the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, Spaniard José Luis "Josele" Ballester. On Tuesday, the X Flushing It account, which tracks global golf news, reported Ballester's move to the Saudi-backed league as "confirmed." Unsurprisingly, the Arizona State University star has been linked to the Fireballs GC team, captained by fellow Spaniard Sergio Garcia. "Reigning US Amateur Champion and sixth-ranked amateur in the world, Josele Ballester, is confirmed to be joining Fireballs GC in the LIV Golf League," Flushing It posted. Another report from the Spanish outlet El Periodigolf said this information would be officially confirmed in the coming hours. The report also stated that Ballester could make his debut with the Fireballs as soon as this weekend at LIV Golf Virginia. Both reports proved to be true, as the Fireballs GC confirmed the news on Wednesday through their social media accounts. However, it is now reported that Masaveu's contract only covers half a season, so Ballester would replace him. Nevertheless, according to the available information, Masaveu will also play in Virginia, replacing Puig, who has had back problems for several weeks. LIV Golf has found fertile ground in Spanish golf. Prominent Spanish players like Jon Rahm and Sergio García have joined the league alongside young talents like Puig, Masaveu, and now Ballester. Jose Luis Ballester of Spain poses with the trophy after the 36-Hole Championship Match of the U.S. Amateur Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club on August 18, 2024 in Chaska, Ballester recently finished his time playing collegiate golf in the United States with impressive results. He added nine top-five finishes in various NCAA tournaments to his 2024 US Amateur Championship title, as well as significant amateur victories in Spain and Europe. He also earned an invitation to the 2025 Masters Tournament, where the reigning U.S. Amateur champion stole headlines, but not necessarily for the reason he might have wanted. Ballester needed to relieve himself, so he did in Rae's Creek and was spotted. The story went viral, as did his girlfriend's reaction to it. His standing in the PGA Tour University rankings earned him a Korn Ferry Tour card for the remainder of the season. However, Ballester officially rejected this option, which the golf world views as an indication that he is interested in LIV Golf.
