Ohio State AD Ross Bjork voices support for expanded College Football Playoff
Ohio State athletic director Ross Bjork voiced support Tuesday for further expanding the College Football Playoff.
The playoff expanded from four teams to 12 this year, and the Buckeyes were the chief beneficiary. OSU was ranked sixth in the final ranking by the CFP committee – and slotted No. 8 in the bracket – before winning four games to win the national championship.
Now there is speculation that the playoff will expand again, with 2026 the most likely date for expansion.
'We're just at a time where you have to put everything on the table to really capitalize on the moment in college athletes,' Bjork said at Ohio Stadium to discuss the Blue Jackets' Stadium Series hockey game against Detroit on March 1. 'If we're sharing revenue with the athletes, which is the right thing to do, how do we produce more content? How do we have more high-level matchups?

"Clearly, the viewership and the CFP people want to watch these games and they want high-level matchups, so I think we owe it to the game. We owe it to our athletes to say, 'Can we have more content?' And more content means more games. So is that 14 (teams)? Is that 16? I don't know what the right number is.

'I think there's a lot of different models that we've studied. Clearly, the Big Ten and the SEC were at the forefront. We had the biggest brands. But we also need to also protect the game of college football to make sure that it's accessible for as many people that can really live in this world as possible. So I'm for expansion again.'

Ryan Williams Reveals Conversation With Jeremiah Smith During College Football 26 Cover Shoot
Ryan Williams Reveals Conversation With Jeremiah Smith During College Football 26 Cover Shoot originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Alabama's Ryan Williams and Ohio State's Jeremiah Smith were two true freshmen playmakers who stole the show last season. Advertisement Both wide receivers appeared on the Freshman All-American teams and Smith broke out in a big way thanks to the Buckeyes winning a national championship. With the pending July 10 release of EA Sports College Football 26, Smith and Williams are expected to be a significant part of the game's marketing, given their status as premier players from two of college football's biggest programs. Williams, while being interviewed by On3's Andy Staples, revealed the topics of conversation shared with Smith during the game's cover shoot. "Whenever we were in Pasadena, of course, we talked about last season and him winning a national championship. I was super happy for him," Williams said. Advertisement Smith finished the 2024 season with 76 receptions for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns. He also ran for one touchdown and rushed for 47 yards. In addition to being the Rose Bowl MVP, the 6-foot-3, 215-pound receiver was Big Ten Receiver and Freshman of the Year as well as a first-team All-American. Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Ryan Williams (2).Will McLelland-Imagn Images "But you know, we both agreed that although last year was super fun, super great and we both had good freshman seasons," Williams continued. "We left a lot on the table. Just with that experience from last season, we're still super excited for what's to come this season." Williams ended last year with 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns. He also added 48 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns. Advertisement Expectations for both Ohio State and Alabama are high, as it should be for two of the biggest schools in the country. In ESPN's latest way-too-early rankings, the Buckeyes are Crimson are listed at No. 5 and No. 9, respectively. Both programs have yet to name a starter at quarterback after each school lost last season's starter to the NFL draft. Alabama and Ohio State both begin next season on Aug. 30, with the Buckeyes hosting the Texas Longhorns and the Crimson Tide traveling to Tallahassee to play the Florida State Seminoles. Brian Kelly Dealt Blunt Reality Check Amid Growing Hype Around LSU
Brian Kelly Dealt Blunt Reality Check Amid Growing Hype Around LSU originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There is a lot of hype surrounding the LSU Tigers and head coach Brian Kelly ahead of the 2025 college football season. However, that's to be expected for a SEC powerhouse like the Tigers. Advertisement Despite that, one college football analyst believes everyone should pump the brakes because Kelly has yet to accomplish much of anything since his arrival in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. While on the Paul Finebaum Show, 247Sports analyst Brad Crawford explained his reasons why, if anything, Kelly should be on the hot seat. "Brian Kelly hit the mark. He knows this, on paper, is the best roster he's had. For me, LSU's big thing this summer has been 'Don't buy into the hype. Don't read the press clippings. Don't watch 'The Paul Finebaum Show,'" said Crawford Per the 247Sports' 2025 transfer portal team rankings, LSU had the top class with 18 commitments. The Tigers paired that with the No. 10 recruiting class in 2025, which included two five-star and 19 four-star commitments. Advertisement With all those incoming players, LSU's roster is chock-full of new talent, and it's reflected in the added expectations surrounding the program. "LSU is a team that should get to the (College Football) Playoff. Now 'should' is not 'would' or 'is it possible' because we've seen the last five years, LSU has not won a season opener," Crawford continued. Kelly arrived with the Tigers ahead of the 2022 college football season, so this losing streak in opening games stretches beyond his tenure. LSU has lost to USC and Florida State twice over the last three years under Kelly. LSU Tigers head coach Brian Chenault-Imagn Images The Tigers lost to UCLA in 2021 and to Mississippi State in 2020. LSU is travelling to Clemson to kick off the 2025 season on Aug. 30. Advertisement "With [quarterback] Garrett Nussmeier, a guy I think will be the No. 1 pick in next year's draft," said Crawford. "(Kelly has) got to get it done this time around or Brian Kelly is going to be on the hot seat by November." Finebaum responded to Crawford's bold statement by saying that Kelly is going to be a regular guest on his show throughout the season, and he would use Crawford's quote to see what Kelly thinks about it. LSU is ranked at No. 6 in ESPN's latest way-too-early college football rankings, and analyst Mark Schlabach shares a similar sentiment with Crawford that the Tigers should be "in the thick of the SEC title and CFP races."
