Fox next fall: Less drama, more fun and games, but no 'Masked Singer'
Fox is unveiling a fall schedule with plenty of reality TV and sports and its usual Sunday animation crop but just two other scripted series.
In a lineup presented to advertisers on May 12, the network is pairing two returning freshmen, medical drama "Doc" and mystery "Murder in a Small Town," on Tuesday nights, but will air game shows on Monday and Wednesday, including two newcomers, "99 To Beat" and a celebrity revival of onetime NBC hit "The Weakest Link." Last fall, Fox aired four dramas on two nights.
Returning midseason shows include comedies "Animal Control" and "Going Dutch," the animated "Grimsburg" and "Family Guy" and reality competition series "The Masked Singer," which is sitting out fall for the first time since its 2019 premiere. Also due: New drama "Memory of a Killer," about a hitman who develops early Alzheimer's disease; a second revival of NBC's early-2000s gross-out reality show "Fear Factor"; "The Faithful," a three-week series about the Old Testament's Book of Genesis; and "Best Medicine," an hourlong comedy starring Josh Charles ("The Good Wife") as an irascible surgeon who moves to an East Coast fishing village, where his bedside manner is lacking. (It's based on British series "Doc Martin.")
"American Dad," another animated comedy that aired on Fox from 2005-14 and then moved to TBS, is returning to Fox at midseason.
Fox has canceled "Rescue: Hi-Surf," a freshman drama for which it had high hopes, along with "9-1-1: Lone Star." The network is waiting to announce the fates of three other shows – "Alert: Missing Persons Unit," "The Cleaning Lady" and "The Great North" – while each is airing new episodes. Final decisions usually come by June 30.

Comedian Jefferies set to host new FOX show before tour stops in Hawaii

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new show on FOX is putting master manipulators to the test. 'The Snake' will feature 15 contestants leveraging their unique skills and relying on their powers of persuasion. Throughout the game, a 'snake' will be chosen to juggle the fate of their fellow competitors, all while trying to compete for the grand prize of $100,000. Kev Herrera Brings His Raw and Relatable Comedy to Blue Note Hawaii World-famous comedian and show host Jim Jefferies tells us 'The Snake' will have a familiar 'survival of the fittest' theme, but with a twist. 'There's no backstabbing you in this game, people are stabbing you in your front,' Jefferies said. 'What makes this show different from other shows is once you win the challenge, you get to become the snake, you get a snake medallion, the most coveted character in the game, and then we have a saving ceremony, not an elimination ceremony where the snake decides who they're going to save first. Then that person decides to save another person, and that person decides to save another person until we get down to the final two players, and the snake decides who gets to live and who goes home.'Jefferies is coming to the islands this summer for a pair of stand-up comedy shows, starting July 25 at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, followed by a show at the Blaisdell Concert Hall on July 26. 'I've been writing this show for a very long time, it's good to go. I will say this about the Hawaii shows, these are the only shows in the world that I request to do every year,' Jefferies said. Check out more news from around Hawaii 'The Snake' premieres on KHON2 Tuesday night at 8:00 Hawaii Time. Tickets for his Son of a Carpenter tour can be found here. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Savannah Guthrie sparks pregnancy confusion with Jenna Bush Hager comment on ‘Today'

Whoops! Savannah Guthrie confused her 'Today' co-hosts this week when she seemed to suggest that Jenna Bush Hager had a surprise pregnancy announcement. The awkward incident unfolded on Monday as Bush Hager, 43, prepared to begin her Morning Boost segment. 8 Savannah Guthrie confused her 'Today' co-hosts when she seemed to suggest that Jenna Bush Hager had a surprise pregnancy announcement. Nancy Kaszerman/ZUMA / 8 The awkward incident occurred on Monday as Bush Hager prepared to begin her Morning Boost segment. TODAY 'Jenna's got a little something in the oven for the Boost,' Guthrie, 53, said before the camera cut over to the former first daughter, per People. 'Today' co-hosts Carson Daly, Al Roker and Craig Melvin were left scratching their heads over the baby news confusion. 'Wait, what?' Daly, 51, asked. 'Are you making an announcement?' 8 'Jenna's got a little something in the oven for the Boost,' Guthrie said. Erik Pendzich/Shutterstock 'Did you say Jenna's pregnant?' Roker, 70, added. 'I'm so excited for you!' someone else shouted in the background as Bush Hager started the segment. Guthrie then snapped at her male co-anchors as they tried to figure out what she meant by her 'little something in the oven' comment. 8 'Today' co-hosts Carson Daly and Al Roker were left scratching their heads over the confusion. NBCU Photo Bank/NBCUniversal via Getty Images 'Stop that!' Guthrie barked. 'Stop that!' 'You guys,' Bush Hager added, 'I understood what she said.' But Daly, Roker and Melvin were not the only ones bewildered by Guthrie's remark, because some 'Today' viewers rushed to social media for clarification amid the baby announcement confusion. 8 'You guys, I understood what she said,' Bush Hager said. Today/NBC 'Bush is pregnant?' one person asked on Instagram. 'Are either one pregnant?' asked another, while a third commented, 'I'm confused.' Other fans slammed the show and lamented over Hoda Kotb's departure from the program. She left 'Today' back in January because her 6-year-old daughter, Hope, has Type 1 diabetes. 8 Some fans took to Instagram to lament over Hoda Kotb's departure from 'Today' earlier this year. NBC 'Can barely watch now that Hoda is gone,' one viewer wrote. 'Haven't watched since Hoda left,' added another, as a third commented, 'Bring Hoda back.' Although Bush Hager is not pregnant, she does share daughters Mila, 13, Poppy, 9, and son Hal, 5, with her husband, Henry Hager. 8 Bush Hager and her husband, Henry Hager, have three children together. AP As for Guthrie, she has daughter Vale, 10, and son Charley, 8, with husband Mike Feldman. Meanwhile, this wouldn't be the first time that Guthrie inadvertently suggested Bush Hager was pregnant with a fourth child. Back in March, during an episode of 'Today With Jenna & Friends,' the broadcast journalist said that she 'had a dream' that Bush Hager welcomed another baby. 8 Guthrie shares two children with her husband, Mike Feldman. WireImage 'I have nothing to announce,' former President George W. Bush's daughter responded at the time. 'I'm pretty sure I've come to terms that three, even though it's an imperfect number, is the perfect number for our house.' 'It's very normal,' Guthrie chimed in. 'I think they call it being broody. You're kind of broody for a third or a fourth.' 'I would have had a third in a heartbeat, but, you know, I was up against the clock,' she added.

‘She's got tunnel vision': Wendi McLendon-Covey reveals what she loves most about her character Joyce on ‘St. Denis Medical'

'It was, like, four hours after we were canceled, and that's no joke.' That's how long it took for Wendi McLendon-Covey to receive the first script for St. Denis Medical after the demise of her long-running comedy The Goldbergs. As the actress tells Gold Derby, she read the pilot with no expectation of making a series commitment, but she says she became hooked because her character, Joyce, is 'such an oddball and reminded me of so many women supervisors that I had working other jobs.' The transition from one show to another did prove challenging, though, as she shot the first episode of the NBC medical mockumentary while promoting the series finale of her family sitcom and felt like she was 'cheating' on her television family. (Watch our full interview above). McLendon-Covey's character is at the center of the St. Denis Medical cast as the top hospital administrator who tries to motivate the doctors, nurses, and staff of her regional medical center in her quest to make it a destination hospital. Although the character comes across as an 'oddball,' the actress stresses that 'she's not an idiot. She's an accomplished woman who is a doctor.' The television vet crafted a backstory to explain her character's offscreen journey, sharing, 'In my mind, she became an administrator because she got tired of being told how to practice medicine.' But now, instead of battling with insurance companies over patient care, all she does now is 'beg for money all day.' The actress describes this as the 'delicious line' she gets to walk. More from GoldDerby Michelle Williams on 'Dying for Sex,' finding the perfect role and embracing pleasure: 'Can you leave shame at the door?' Marlon Wayans on laughing through tragedy in 'Good Grief' and why social media has made comedy 'toxic' Tony Talk: Dissecting those shocking wins for 'Purpose,' Nicole Scherzinger, Darren Criss, and full show analysis SEE 'I know this dude!': David Alan Grier explains why he leapt at the chance to play a 'burned-out' doctor on 'St. Denis Medical' McLendon-Covey stars in the series alongside Emmy Award nominee Allison Tolman and Tony Award winner David Alan Grier. While those performers have 'proven track records,' the Emmy-nominated Reno 911! star has been equally impressed with the cast members who she didn't know prior to joining St. Denis. 'When I watch Mekki Leeper, dear God, just take me out, turn the cameras off me because I'm laughing my head off,' exclaims the actress, continuing, 'Same with Josh Lawson, same with Kaliko [Kauahi], who can level me with one line delivery per episode. She knows how to get in, say her thing, steal all the focus, and get out. Kahyun [Kim], I'm so impressed with her because she learned English from watching television in her twenties. She's fantastic.' Joyce's relationship with Grier's character, the burned out doctor Ron, has emerged as one of the most pivotal in the series, as the snark they show toward one another thinly masks deeply-held respect. 'We haven't talked about it that much. We had a meeting of the minds and started playing it the same way,' the actress says of the duo's dynamic. The series has revealed that the two doctors were residents together at St. Denis decades ago, so the performer hopes Season 2 will feature a flashback to those years, confessing, 'I do want to see what they (a) looked like in the '90s, and (b) how that worked out when they were working 18-hour shifts together.' WATCH our video interview with Allison Tolman, 'St. Denis Medical' One of McLendon-Covey's best episodes from the first season, 'Listen to Your Ladybugs,' follows the hospital's awareness campaign to encourage women to get their mammograms in a timely fashion. But when Joyce gets her screening for the cameras, it turns up an inconclusive spot that needs further testing, causing Joyce to panic. 'We're just playing the reality of working in a hospital, and things turn on a dime. Sometimes you're the ones getting the bad news,' stresses the actress about why the installment works so effectively. The Bridesmaids star also reveals that Joyce's situation, in which a mammogram led to a more invasive biopsy, happened to her. Just like her character, the McLendon-Covey says, 'Mammograms suck! It is like a panini press. This is the best we can do for women? It's humiliating. It hurts. I've got a whole sermon I could preach.' McLendon-Covey most enjoyed shooting the 'big episodes' of St. Denis Medical's first season, including 'Some Famous Internet Guy,' where the hospital hosts a concert for its pediatric patients, and 'Bruce-ic and the Mus-ic,' in which Joyce helps Ron emcee a fundraising gala. The actress says she delights in the installments in which 'there's just chaos going on behind the scenes, and Joyce has to pretend like there isn't any chaos.' She also mentions 'Ho-Ho-Hollo,' the Christmas episode, which finds Joyce suddenly passionate about the hospital going viral online. 'The absurdity of Joyce getting a goal in her mind and trying to reach it … she's got tunnel vision," McLendon-Covey says, "and I like that in a character.'
