Boston Red Sox' Masataka Yoshida provides injury update
BOSTON — Red Sox outfielder Masataka Yoshida had a cortisone shot Sunday after he has continued to feel pain when he throws.
'When I stretch out to 120 feet, that's when I kind of feel the pain,' Yoshida said through translator Yutaro Yamaguchi in the Red Sox clubhouse Tuesday.

The 31-year-old underwent a right shoulder labral repair on Oct. 3 in Boston. He will not throw for at least another three days after receiving the shot.
'I'm going to have to let it sit and see how I feel,' Yoshida said.
He said the trainers told him post-surgery that he would have to tolerate some pain throughout the 2025 season.
'That's something that I kind of have to be dealing with throughout the year,' Yoshida said. 'At least this year I will have to deal with the pain.'
Yoshida said he still has no issues with hitting. He would be able to be activated from the IL if he only had to hit. He spent last year as Boston's DH. But the Red Sox plan to use him in the outfield this season with Rafael Devers serving as the primary DH and playing no third base. Boston also has no plans to ask Devers to play first base following Triston Casas' season-ending surgery Sunday.

'As far as the hitting, no problem,' said Yoshida who appeared in 11 Grapefruit League games during spring training and batted .286 (10-for-35) with a homer and double.
Yoshida had hope at the beginning of spring training that he would be ready for Opening Day. He said there have been no real setbacks.
'But I'm not recovering or making the progress at the pace that I wanted to,' Yoshida said. 'Let's put it that way.'
He's in the third season of the five-year, $90 million contract that he signed with Boston in December 2022. He has batted .285 with a .343 on-base percentage, .433 slugging percentage, .775 OPS, 25 homers, 54 doubles, three triples, 128 RBIs, 116 runs, 61 walks and 133 strikeouts in 248 games for Boston.

'I just want to go back out there as soon as I can,' Yoshida said. 'That's my hope.'
Manager Alex Cora added, 'I know he's frustrated. I think we all are. It was major surgery. It was. We haven't rushed him through the process. We've been very patient. And we will stay patient with him. He wants to play. And we've gotta get it going throwing-wise. It's been a challenge. But it's not lack of effort. It's not lack of resources. I think our guys have done an amazing job. Just it hasn't happened yet.'

Hopefully there is something for everyone among the 11 names tabbed for consideration this week. Managers are encouraged to consider grabbing multiple players who work primarily in a platoon role. And there are also a couple players, Addison Barger and Eury Pérez, who could be major difference-makers this summer. The 25-year-old's Statcast page is covered in red, as he ranks among the top 15% of hitters in key stats such as average exit velocity, barrel rate, hard-hit rate, xBA and xSLG. He also has an absolute cannon of an arm that allows him to excel at third base or in right field. The Blue Jays have a clear need for another impact bat in their lineup, and the combination of skills and opportunity makes Barger the most exciting position player who is currently available in most leagues. Advertisement Michael Busch, 1B, Chicago Cubs, 49% Busch is the perfect player for default Yahoo formats. The slugger rarely plays against left-handers, which makes it easy for managers to stream him between their lineup and bench. Busch has been so good against righties (.952 OPS) that he ranks 11th among first basemen in both RBI and home runs. And his managers have received that production while also getting additional stats on his days off. Those in shallow leagues who are dedicated to monitoring their daily lineup should pick him up. Hyeseong Kim, 2B/SS, Los Angeles Dodgers, 15% Kim has less of a track record and a much different skill set than Busch, but there are otherwise plenty of similarities between the two. The rookie has been in the majors a little over a month, and in that time he has established himself as a game-changing player against right-handers (.994 OPS). He has also proven to be impactful on the basepaths (five steals). Kim doesn't start against southpaws, which means that managers can get all of his production and more by moving him to the bench when the Dodgers do the same. He's a great fit in categories leagues. Parker Meadows, OF, Detroit Tigers, 26% Meadows is the third consecutive player in this article who has plenty of value despite being platooned by his team. The outfielder recently returned from a season-opening stint on the IL, and he immediately took over as Detroit's leadoff hitter against right-handers. Hitting atop a lineup that ranks 4th in runs scored should allow Meadows to accumulate plenty of counting stats, and he also has a balanced skill set that will lead to some homers and steals. Finally, Meadows has a lifetime .728 OPS against left-handers, which should earn him some opportunities in those matchups. Willi Castro, 2B/3B/SS/OF, Minnesota Twins, 42% Castro got off to a slow start this season and then spent about three weeks on the IL. But since returning exactly one month ago, he has been a balanced contributor who has hit .278 with 5 homers, 2 steals and 18 runs scored. The 28-year-old does not have a high ceiling, but he contributes in a variety of ways and is among the easiest players to fit into a lineup thanks to his four-position eligibility. Advertisement Brett Baty, 2B/3B, New York Mets, 14% Baty has fared well of late, batting .260 with a .795 OPS since the beginning of May. His effective play has led to a full-time role, which puts Baty in terrific position to thrive this weekend when the Mets work at hitter-friendly Coors Field against a team with a 5.93 home ERA. Managers in all formats should strive to have some shares of New York's lineup until Sunday night. Eury Pérez, SP, Miami Marlins, 42% Pérez is set to return from April 2024 Tommy John surgery on Monday, and he will immediately become the most talented pitcher who is available in the majority of Yahoo leagues. The youngster was outstanding as a 20-year-old in his rookie season, logging a 3.15 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP and a 10.6 K/9 rate. Sure, there is risk involved with someone who is coming off such a long layoff, but Pérez has the upside of a mixed-league ace. Michael Wacha, SP, Kansas City Royals, 50% With a 2.88 ERA and a 1.17 WHIP, Wacha has been as effective as any full-time starter who remains widely available in Yahoo leagues. The veteran is the best pitcher to stream this weekend, as he is scheduled to start tomorrow against a 20-43 White Sox team that ranks 26th in runs scored. Griffin Canning, SP, New York Mets, 41% Canning bounced back from a pair of subpar outings when he struck out seven across six shutout innings against the high-scoring Dodgers. The right-hander walks too many batters (10.4%), but he minimizes the damage by getting his share of strikeouts and ground balls. Although Canning isn't effective enough to be recommended for long-term use, he will be one of the top available two-start hurlers next week when he will make a pair of appearances at his pitcher-friendly home park. Advertisement Ryne Nelson, SP/RP, Arizona Diamondbacks, 6% Nelson is an interesting dart throw in deeper leagues, as an injury to Corbin Burnes has opened a rotation spot for the 27-year-old, who logged a 3.23 ERA and a 67:14 K:BB ratio while working almost exclusively as a starter during the second half of last season. Nelson has been effective while mostly pitching in relief this year (3.43 ERA, 1.00 WHIP, 35:11 K:BB ratio) and could be a permanent rotation member from this point forward. Daniel Palencia, RP, Chicago Cubs, 46% Palencia's roster rate has slowly climbed, but there is still a long way to go for someone who has established himself as the full-time closer for one of baseball's best teams. Palencia has pitched well this season (1.74 ERA, 0.77 WHIP) and will be a top-15 reliever as long as he holds his current role.

Red Sox cruise to doubleheader sweep of Mariners
Jun. 6—POLSON — Hunter Harness doubled and the Bitterroot Red Sox used an eight-run fourth inning to run away from the Mission Valley Mariners 13-2 in game one of a doubleheader Thursday. Jackson Lubke hit a trio of singles and drove in two in game one for the Red Sox, who scored 13 runs on eight hits. Advertisement Wyatt Wadsworth homered for Mission Valley, but the Mariners were held to four hits. The Mariners committed five errors in the loss. Jude Widmer went 4 1-3 innings on the mound for Bitterroot, he allowed four hits and fanned four. The game ended after five innings due to the run rule. In game two, Boedy Tadvick and Reese Earp hit back-to-back RBI doubles to help the Red Sox to a 4-0 advantage after the top of the first. Cole Wadsworth and Holden Emerson both hit big flies, but it wasn't enough for the Mariners, who fell 8-4. Connor Quinn went five innings strong on the mound for the Red Sox, fanning two and allowing four earned runs. Trevyn Bakken closed out the final two innings. Cody Haggard and Landon Shoemake shared the pitching duties for the Mariners, with Haggard going 5 1-3 innings and striking out seven. Shoemake closed out the final 1 2-3 innings.

Longtime 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer retires after 37 years
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – After 37 years at 22News, our longtime 22News Anchor Rich Tettemer is retiring. Rich's career in broadcasting began back in January 1984 as a videotape editor at WFLA in Tampa, Florida. He then went on to become a Weekend Sports Anchor at KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri. 22News' Rich Tettemer awarded Garry Brown Excellence Award night before retirement Rich joined the 22News team on April 18, 1988, which was Patriots Day with both the Boston Marathon and the Red Sox morning game, and handled the busy day smoothly. He stood with us through the glory years, covering all the unforgettable Patriots Super Bowl victories. In locker rooms, on parade routes, and in the hearts of fans, Rich captured the emotion behind every win. From Salt Lake City to Torino, he showed us the world stage at the Olympics. In 2004, an event would be what Rich calls the pinnacle of his sports career. After 86 long years, the Red Sox finally broke the curse, and Rich was right there, bringing the magic home to fans who had waited a lifetime. He was then moved to anchor the morning newscast on October 16, 2006, after 18 and a half years on the sports desk. He has been the morning news Anchor for another 18 and a half years. Year after year, through rain or shine, Rich was front and center at the Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade, hosting, celebrating, and bringing our communities together. He helped shape important conversations, moderating debates, holding candidates accountable, and always putting facts first. When the world stood still during the COVID-19 pandemic, Rich stood tall, guiding us with steady hands and trusted words when we needed them most. During his career at 22News, he was voted by the readers of the Springfield Advocate and the Valley Advocate as Best Sportscaster. Rich has also garnered 13 Associated Press awards from 1994 through 2006. Additionally, he has served as co-host of the Children's Miracle Network Telethon since 1989. He was also just awarded the Garry Brown Excellence Award. Rich will be replaced by current 22News Reporter Julia O'Keefe.
