Comedian Nate Bargatze to host 2025 Emmy Awards
Stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze will host the 77th Emmy Awards, CBS has announced.
One of the most popular stand-ups currently working, Bargatze will host the September 14 ceremony at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
While the Oscars have found success with Conan O'Brien, set to return in 2026, and the Golden Globes with returning host Nikki Glaser, the Emmys have had a harder time finding a regular host.
The last four Emmys have been hosted by Eugene and Dan Levy, Anthony Anderson, Kenan Thompson and Cedric the Entertainer.
'Nate is one of the hottest comics in the business with a remarkable and hilarious brand of comedy that deeply resonates with multi-generational audiences around the globe,' said Cris Abrego, chairman of the Television Academy.
Bargatze, while yet to emcee a major awards show, is among the most sought-after entertainers, releasing three Netflix specials including December's Your Friend, Nate Bargatze and hosting Saturday Night Live.
With more than 1.2 million tickets sold in 2024, according to Pollstar, he was the top-earning comedian of the year.
'It's a huge honour to be asked to host such an iconic awards show and I'm beyond excited to work with CBS to create a night that can be enjoyed by families around the world,' Bargatze said.
Last year's Emmys, hosted by the father-son Levy duo, reached 6.87 million average viewers, according to Nielsen, up 54% from the previous year.

He then refuted Trump's claim Thursday morning that he has helped Musk a lot by joking that he 'helped' the billionaire 'declutter his bank account of $288 million dusty dollars.' Colbert additionally pushed back at Trump's remark on Truth Social that Musk just 'went crazy' over his Big, Beautiful Bill. 'I'm sorry … 'Went crazy'? Elon, has always lived at the geographic center of insanitude,' he said. 'He's not the Mayor of Crazytown. He's the Governor of Off-His-Medsylvania.' Despite Trump's insistence that Musk wanted him to support electric vehicles that 'nobody else wanted,' Colbert pointed out that the president not only promoted Tesla's cars at the White House in March, but also bought one that is still parked at the presidential residence. 'So now Donald Trump is a Tesla owner who hates Elon Musk … he's never been more relatable,' Colbert joked. 'Trump's going to have to get one of those bumper stickers for his Tesla that says, 'I bought this before Elon told everyone I was on Epstein's plane.'' In reaction to Musk's 'big bomb' tweet alleging that Trump is mentioned in the government's classified Epstein Files, Colbert asked, 'Is this Twitter war a Cheesy Gordita Crunchwrap Supreme? Because it's dripping hot, messy filth and I am eating up every sloppy bite.' The comedian also noted that Musk retweeted a post on X saying that Trump should be impeached. 'Oh my sweet lord, I agree with Elon Musk,' he said with feigned horror, before asking his phone: 'Siri, what is the current temperature of Hell?' Emmys Twist: Dept. Q Enters Drama Series Race at 11th Hour, Potentially Upending 2025 Contest (Exclusive)
Did Netflix just throw a grenade into the Emmy race for the second year in a row? TVLine has learned exclusively that Dept. Q, the Matthew Goode-fronted Scottish thriller that dropped May 29, just two days shy of the eligibility cutoff for this year's Emmys, is being submitted in the Drama Series categories. The acclaimed nine-episode mystery from Queen's Gambit auteur Scott Frank enters a crowded field that includes Severance, The Pitt, The White Lotus, The Last of Us and Netflix's own The Diplomat. Richard Gadd's searing, semi-autobiographical dramedy — which appeared on the kudos scene a scant one month before the close of eligibility — went on to essentially sweep Limited Series categories at last September's Emmys. It remains to be seen if a similar fate awaits Dept. Q, which earlier this week hit No. 2 on Netflix's consumer-facing Top 10 chart and boasts an impressive 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes (its critical score stands at a strong 84%). Dept. Q, based on the book series by Danish writer Jussi Adler-Olsen, centers on a cranky Edinburgh detective (played by Good Wife alum Goode) who sets out solve a cold case involving a missing prosecutor (played by Queen's Gambit alum Chloe Pirrie). In addition to possibly playing spoiler in the Outstanding Drama Series contest, Dept. Q is poised to be a contender in the acting races as well. A Netflix rep confirms to TVLine that Goode and Pirrie will be competing in the Lead Actor in a Drama Series and Lead Actress in a Drama Series categories, respectively. The show's supporting cast — which includes Boardwalk Empire vet Kelly Macdonald and Game of Thrones' Kate Dickie — is equally as formidable. Have you binged ? Martin Scorsese Swears Off Theaters Because Of Obnoxious Moviegoers

Scorsese, of course, is the legendary filmmaker behind such film classics as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, Hugo and The Irishman. Scorsese also won his first and only Oscar for Best Director for the 2006 Best Picture Oscar winner The Departed. More recently, Scorsese's 2023 historical crime epic Killers of the Flower Moon was nominated for 10 Oscars but came away from the ceremony empty-handed. In a recent conversation with Peter Travers for The Travers Take, Scorsese told the longtime ABC News and Rolling Stone film critic why he was finished seeing movies in theaters. 'I asked the maestro why he doesn't see movies in theatres anymore and he went all raging bull about audiences who babble on phones during the movie, leave to order snacks and vats of soda, and keep up a noise level loud enough to drown out the actors,' Travers wrote (via The Guardian). Travers noted that he pointed out to Scorsese how 'we couldn't keep our mouths shut when we were kids' when they went to movies, to which he said the filmmaker replied, ''Yeah, maybe,' he conceded, 'but when we talked it was always about the movie and the fun we had chewing over the details.'' In 2019, Scorsese told Empire Magazine (via Variety) that he 'tried' to watch Marvel movies, but concluded, 'That's not cinema.' 'Honestly, the closest I can think of them, as well made as they are, with actors doing the best they can under the circumstances, is theme parks,' Scorsese told Empire. 'It isn't the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being.' Scorsese recently appeared in a cameo role as himself in Apple TV+'s movie business satire The Studio.
