FOX 26 political reporter and "What's Your Point" host Greg Groogan has been honored with his own special day in Houston.
The declaration was announced for the 500th episode of "What's Your Point?," FOX 26's weekly program, where Greg brings in a panel to discuss political topics on the local, state, and national levels.
Sunday's episode included a one-on-one interview with Houston Mayor John Whitmire. He spoke to Greg about a proposed pay increase for Houston police and other topics about the city.
At the end of the interview, Mayor Whitmire presented Greg with a declaration for his special day. The mayor says he watches the show every Sunday morning.
"I enjoy the discourse, you pointing out. And your panel, your diverse panel, bring ideas to the city each time I watch your show," said Mayor Whitmire. "I want to recognize your experience. You know, I think experience matters, relationships matter."

CYPRESS, Texas - A Cypress mother is speaking out after discovering her daughter was allegedly bullied and coerced into taking explicit photos at a local daycare. The incident has sparked an investigation, leaving the parent shocked and concerned. What they're saying Tenesha Whitfield, a concerned parent, expressed her dismay after learning that explicit photos of her daughter were being shared and sold on Snapchat. Her daughter, who was 7-years-old at the time, was one of three minors involved, alongside two others aged nine and eleven. "It's disheartening. Disappointing. It also gives me a feeling of disgust that a person would do this, especially with children," Whitfield said. Whitfield explained that investigators found the photos circulating on Snapchat, leading to an active investigation. "Very shocking. I was confused and it made me anxious. I was calm enough to hear what they had to say. I didn't take it very lightly," she added. Whitfield shared her daughter's emotional struggle, saying, "She thought she was the one in the wrong. After thoroughly explaining to her what took place, I had to let her know you were victimized. I feel like my daughter was handpicked because my daughter is very sweet. She's non-confrontational. And she lacks in the self-defense department, so I know she's not going to stir up anything or put herself in a predicament." Attorney Tasha Ricks stated, "As I understand it, there is a pending criminal investigation against the adult who solicited the photos." When asked about accountability, Ricks pointed to KinderCare, saying, "KinderCare because they had full possession of our client's child at the time the incident occurred. They also were the first reporting agency." The other side FOX 26 reached out to KinderCare, which stated that their internal investigation found no fault with their staff regarding the incident. "Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of children in our care. As soon as we were made aware of these concerns in June 2023, we immediately self-reported to state licensing, Child Protective Services, and local law enforcement. We also conducted our own internal investigation. State licensing informed us in July 2023 that their investigation found nothing to support any claims that a lack of supervision led to this incident." What's next The Harris County Sheriff's Office is actively investigating the case. The Source FOX 26's Jonathan Mejia spoke with the victim's mother, Tenesha Whitfield, the attorney representing the family, Tasha Ricks, and confirmed with the HCSO that there is an investigation. Illegal immigrant suspect in Jocelyn Nungaray's murder now accused of prior sexual assault in Costa Rica
One of two suspects charged in Jocelyn Nungaray's murder is now accused of raping an American woman in Costa Rica, according to former Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg. Two Venezuelan illegal immigrants who may have ties to the Tren de Aragua gang — Franklin Jose Pena Ramos, 26, and Johan Jose Rangel Martinez, 21 — are charged in the 12-year-old's June 2024 murder. They allegedly sexually assaulted and strangled the pre-teen to death, leaving her body tied up in a bayou in Houston. Ogg told FOX 26 Houston last week that she learned over the course of her investigation as DA, before her successor Sean Teare took office last year, that Pena Ramos had been involved in a prior sexual assault in Costa Rica involving an American woman who was apparently on vacation at the time. "It happened in Costa Rica. It happened to an American citizen who came forward with that information after their pictures were shown on national television," Ogg told the outlet. "When she reported it to the authorities in Costa Rica, they did nothing. Imagine the frustration of that individual. I don't want that to be swept under the carpet." The former district attorney said she came forward with the information to FOX 26 now because she is "very concerned about the decisions" that Teare "has been making," referencing multiple cases that have been dismissed recently. "I think it's important for the public to get the final say," Ogg added. "Do they deserve death for the rape and murder of Jocelyn? Or should they spend their life in the penitentiary? What I don't want is some backdoor deal done in the quiet of the night and a long time after people have forgotten the horror of this case. He was caught by Border Patrol agents and was released into the U.S. with a Notice to Appear in court. Rangel Martinez also crossed illegally into El Paso in March and was caught by Border Patrol. He was released into the U.S. on an unknown basis. Jocelyn had been at a convenience store and was talking to her 13-year-old boyfriend on the phone after sneaking out of her family's apartment. The boyfriend told investigators that he could hear Nungaray talking with two people. Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick criticizes media in push for THC ban

Patrick claims the THC industry is mounting a pressure campaign to the reverse the ban. Senate Bill 4, banning most over-the-counter THC products, heads to Gov. Abbottt's desk following legislative approval. TEXAS - Lt. Governor Dan Patrick delivered a public tongue-lashing to the Texas media which he claims has failed to adequately report the hazards associated with potent synthetic marijuana products. The criticism comes after passage of Senate Bill 3 which, if signed by Governor Greg Abbott, will ban most THC products on September 1. RELATED: SB3 sent to Gov. Abbott for approval What they're saying Critics of SB-3 say the ban will bankrupt businesses, eliminate thousands of jobs and drive consumers into the unregulated criminal black market. Patrick rejected those arguments, insisting the THC ban will save lives and protect millions of Texans from a life-time of drug abuse. "This is to save an entire generation from being hooked on drugs. Nothing is more important than stopping a kid from getting ahold of this junk!" said Patrick. To underscore his contention the Lieutenant Governor conducted a "show and tell" session surrounded by Senate colleagues and law enforcement officers. Patrick's display included gummies, lollipops and breakfast cereal laced with high doses of THC. "This is serious business. This is not Dan's folly. This is not Dan's priority. This is to save an entire generation from being hooked on drugs," said Patrick. Patrick says he's speaking out to counter an intense pressure campaign by the $8 billion THC industry aimed at reversing the ban. What's next SB-3 won't become law until the measure is signed by Governor Abbott. Patrick says he's confident in Abbott's judgement. What we don't know Patrick says he's anticipating legal challenges by the THC industry and is uncertain whether those lawsuits will delay implementation or undermine SB 3.
