Bengaluru beats hill stations Lonavala, Srinagar with unusually cool temperatures
Bengaluru has been enjoying cool, hill station-like weather over the past few days, with temperatures dipping well below normal. The 'Garden City's' temperature on Wednesday was at 26 degrees Celsius, lower than that of Jammu and Kashmir capital Srinagar, which recorded 29 degrees Celsius. Bengaluru was also cooler than Lonavala, a hill station in Maharashtra.
Weather agencies predicted that the city will see a generally cloudy sky over the next 48 hours, accompanied by light rain and winds. 'Maximum and minimum temperature is very likely to be around 28 and 21 degrees Celsius, respectively,' the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

In a contradiction, data from the IMD revealed that Bengaluru saw sweltering temperature during the same period last year, observing a highest maximum temperature of 35.4 degrees Celsius in June 2024.
In terms of rainfall, Bengaluru lies in a deficit in the month of June. However, data analysed between March 1 to May 31 said the entire state of Karnataka except Chamarajanagara has received an 'excess' or 'large excess' rainfall this year.

If Team India win first test vs England, Shubman Gill will create history, he shall become...
Shubman Gill. (PIC - X) New Delhi: Team India is ready to start the England tour. The series will begin with the match to be held at Headingley from June 20. This will also be Gill's first Test as captain. This young batsman will hope to start his captaincy debut with a win. Gill also has a chance to create history in this match. If Team India wins this Test, Gill will create history. He will do such a feat which even MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli could not do under their captaincy. Team India will play with the intention of winning: India is set to begin the difficult challenge of emerging victorious on English soil for the first time since 2007. The Shubman Gill-led side will play the first Test against hosts England at the Headingley Cricket Ground in Headingley. According to AccuWeather, the first day of the Test on Friday will be the hottest of the five days, with the temperature expected to rise to 30 degrees Celsius. However, the temperature will be almost the same on Saturday, but strong winds will blow from the south at a speed of 17 kmph. Sunday will be quite eventful on the pitch, with Leeds expected to be cloudy, with a cloud cover of 91%. Strong winds of 54 kmph are expected. The temperature will drop to 21 and 23 degrees on the fourth and fifth days. There is a 25 per cent chance of rain on both days. This information came out about the pitch: In the 22 matches since Brendon McCullum was appointed head coach in 2022, the team that has opted to field first has won on 9 out of 15 occasions, while losing on 6 occasions to bat first. Mid-series Tests are usually arranged at Leeds, but with the opening matches being played at this venue, Leeds chief groundsman Richard Robinson spoke to Cricinfo. He told that the wicket will give initial seam and bounce on the first day, but will potentially become flat, which will help the batsmen a bit. India's hat-trick will be completed! India played their first match at this ground in 1952, in which they had to face defeat by seven wickets. Since then, they have participated in seven matches at this ground, out of which they have been victorious only twice, while one match has been a draw. In such a situation, if Team India wins the upcoming match, then it will make a hat-trick of victories on this ground. Shubman Gill has a chance to create history: The team's two victories on this ground were under the captaincy of Kapil Dev in 1986 and Sourav Ganguly in 2002. In such a situation, if Gill wins the upcoming Test, he will become only the third captain of India to win a Test on this ground after Kapil Dev and Ganguly. Dhoni and Kohli also failed to make India win the match on this ground under their captaincy. India played its last Test here in 2021 with Virat Kohli as the captain, in which it lost by an innings and 76 runs. Other information related to the match: The India-England first Test will be played at Headingley Cricket Ground in Leeds. The India-England first Test will start on Friday, June 20. The match is scheduled to start at 3:30 pm IST. The India-England first Test will be broadcasted on Sony Sports Network, while the live stream will be available on JioHotstar.

911 houses damaged due to natural calamities in Dakshina Kannada since April: DDMA
As many as 911 houses were damaged in natural calamities in Dakshina Kannada during the last over two-and-a-half-month period, according to the District Disaster Management Authority. According to the data provided by the authority on Wednesday, 829 houses were partially damaged and 82 houses were fully damaged from April 1 to June 18. Of them, 126 houses, two of them fully, were damaged so far in June alone. As many as 705 houses were partially damaged, and 80 houses were fully damaged in April and May. According to the India Meteorological Department, the Southwest monsoon advanced over coastal Karnataka and parts of interior south Karnataka when it entered Kerala on May 24, a week ahead of its normal onset. At a meeting presided over by Dinesh Gundu Rao, Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada, at the Deputy Commissioner's office on Wednesday, the outgoing Deputy Commissioner M. P. Mullai Muhilan said that horticultural crops on 5.384 hectares and agricultural crops on 2.43 hectares were affected due to the rains. The Minister had called the meeting to review the damages to properties due to the natural calamities. Case to be booked At the meeting, the Minister directed Belthangady officials to file a case against two persons from Savanalu village under the Kudremukh Wildlife range for riding their two-wheeler across a swollen river, disregarding warnings and thereby risking their lives. When an official informed that the two tried to cross the road where the river was overflowing, Mr. Rao said such violators need to be booked. 'We need to send out a strong message,' Mr. Rao said. The Deputy Commissioner said a case will be booked against the two. Mr. Muhilan was upset over Bantwal Town Municipality passing a resolution allowing the movement of all vehicles on the old Panemangaluru steel bridge across Netravathi, despite the district administration having banned it until the department concerned submitted a report on its stability and safety. Mr. Rao said the municipality has written to him seeking permission to allow the movement of all vehicles on the bridge. Mr. Muhilan said the movement of heavy vehicles was banned on the bridge by placing a barrier. However, heavy vehicles began plying the bridge from last month. Then the Minister instructed that the ban on the movement of heavy vehicles should continue until the district administration receives the report on the stability of the bridge.
