Man-son duo from Gujarat killed
Gandhinagar: Three people, including a man-son duo, from Gujarat have been killed in a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam. The deceased were identified as Sumit Parmar and his son Yatish Parmar from Bhavnagar, and Shailesh Kalathiya from Surat. Two people from the state were injured in the attack.
The injured have been identified as Dabhi Vinod and Vijay. Eyewitnesses said heavily-armed terrorists emerged from the surrounding ridges, identified non-Muslim tourists by name, and opened fire at close range.

The Assam Police have arrested five persons for allegedly throwing beef near a temple in Goalpara in a 'deliberate attempt to incite communal tension', Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Sunday. In a post on X, the Bharatiya Janata Party leader said that Bodir Ali, Hazarat Ali, Tara Mia, Shajamal Mia and Jahangir Alom, all residents of Lakhipur, were arrested for attempting to incite tensions after the Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Zuha. 'A case has been registered and strict action is being taken to ensure all such elements face the full force of the law,' Sarma said. This comes after at least 60 persons were arrested over the course of a week in connection with communal tensions that broke out in Dhubri on June 8. The tensions had erupted after the remains of an animal were discovered near a temple. On June 13, the state government issued nighttime shoot-at-sight orders in Dhubri to bring the situation under control. Sarma had claimed that the animal remains found near the temple on June 8 were part of the head of a cow. The chief minister claimed that the next day, another severed animal head was found in front of the temple premises, which sparked violence. Widespread protests had broken out in Dhubri on June 8 morning, with a large number of residents blocking a road adjacent to the temple. They shouted slogans and burnt tyres as part of their demonstration. Deputy Commissioner Dibakar Nath issued orders prohibiting five or more persons from gathering in Dhubri town. The administration had also banned rallies, processions, meetings and demonstrations. The situation was brought under control by June 10 and the prohibitory orders were withdrawn. On Friday, the chief minister had also claimed that a day before Bakri Eid, which was celebrated on June 7, a poster showing Dhubri to be part of Bangladesh was found in the town. Sarma alleged that a group was attempting to spread tensions in the area.

VARANASI: About 40 Hindu families have put up posters displaying "house for sale" in the Muslim-dominated Chhota Pura area of Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh district, alleging that they have been facing violence, abuse, and harassment for playing music or DJs during religious and wedding functions. The posters began appearing after a clash between two communities on June 3, police said. Residents from these families alleged that the district administration failed to address their concerns, leaving them with no choice but to sell their homes and relocate. Azamgarh ASP Madhuvan Kumar Singh said, "We have taken note of reports that some families are planning to migrate. Mortal remains of Keralites who died in Kenya bus accident brought home
KOCHI: The Mortal remains of the five Keralites who were killed after their bus plunged into a gorge in central Kenya, was brought to the Kochi airport on Sunday morning. Accompanied by relatives, the mortal remains were transferred to ambulances stationed at the international terminal arrivals gate, without stopping for public viewing, and taken to their respective home towns in Muvattupuzha, Tiruvalla and Palakkad. Industries Minister P Rajeeve, Non-Resident Keralites Affairs (NORKA) GM Rashmi T and several other officials and dignitaries, who were at the airport, paid last respects to the deceased inside the ambulances. The mortal remains of Jasna Makkar, 29, and her one-and-a-half-year-old daughter Roohi Mehrin from Muvattupuzha, Riya Ann, 41, and her daughter Tyra Rodrigues, 7, from Mannur in Palakkad, and Geetha Shoji Isaac, 58, from Tiruvalla, were brought on a Qatar Airways flight from Doha around 9.15 am. The bodies were handed to the authorities concerned and the ambulances carrying them left the airport by 10.30 am, said a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer
