The exhibition celebrates cultural heritage and promotes dialogue between civilisations by bringing together artists from different cultures. Each artist is invited to reinterpret the traditional folktales of the other's culture, emphasising the shared values that connect people across borders.
Previous editions of the exhibition have been held in Russia, the Republic of Korea, Mexico, and Greece. These events helped introduce Emirati folklore to diverse audiences while allowing Emirati artists and illustrators to explore and creatively reinterpret the stories of other cultures. Through literature and art, the exhibition fosters greater cultural understanding and connection.
Praised the exhibition's growing impact
In statements at the opening of the sixth edition, held at the National Library of the Kingdom of Morocco, Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, praised the exhibition's growing impact.
He explained that the concept centres around reimagining mythical creatures in ways that reflect the customs and traditions of different societies, creating a visual bridge that fosters intercultural understanding. He also emphasised that illustrations are especially effective in engaging audiences and leaving a lasting impression.
Marwa Al Aqroubi, President of UAEBBY, noted that the month-long exhibition features ten artists — five from the UAE and five from Morocco — who reinterpreted some of the most well-known folktale characters from both countries. Each artist offered their unique vision, shaped by their generational perspectives and lived experiences.
She also revealed plans to compile all previous editions into a single, comprehensive publication that celebrates the diverse cultural heritages represented throughout the exhibition's history.

Blending Tradition with Innovation The evening featured the debut of Ihab Darwish's new composition, Ruins of Time, which fused orchestral sounds with traditional Arabic influences. Darwish remarked, 'Music is the fastest way to reach people. It creates peace, it creates understanding. Music removes boundaries. It creates a shared language, a dialogue of coexistence, peace, and tolerance.' Meanwhile, Fatima Al-Hashimi explained her approach to preserving Arab identity within classical music: 'Even while singing in Italian, I included Arabic lyrics to keep our signature present.' Ahmed Al-Housani reflected on the significance of the event, calling it a 'professional milestone' and emphasising, 'Performing here is more than a concert, it's a message. We're here to show the world the strength and beauty of our culture.'

Sharjah Institute for Heritage welcomes Maldives Ambassador
Strengthening cultural relations Dr Al Musallam stated: 'We were pleased to host the Ambassador of the Republic of Maldives at the Institute, which was a valuable opportunity to explore avenues of cooperation in the field of intangible cultural heritage and to exchange expertise in preserving and documenting oral traditions and folk tales. He continued: 'The Narrator Forum has become a global platform celebrating storytellers and memory keepers from various cultures. The Maldives' participation this year will bring fresh dimensions to the forum with legends and folktales drawn from the sea and islands—narratives that resonate deeply with our Gulf maritime heritage.' A Warm Maldivian response For his part, H.E. Mohamed Hussain Shareef expressed his deep appreciation for the invitation extended by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage and praised Dr Al Musallam's efforts in building bridges of cultural communication between peoples. Cultural coordination ahead of "Narrator 25" During the visit, a short documentary was shown about Maldivian Heritage Week 2021. Both sides discussed potential cultural cooperation and the Maldives' anticipated role in the forum. Dr Al Musallam also presented a selection of the Institute's publications that spotlight Emirati and Gulf cultural heritage—particularly in the areas of oral storytelling and folk narratives—highlighting the cultural connection between the maritime traditions of the UAE and the Maldives. At the close of the meeting, the official invitation was formally delivered, naming the Maldives as the Guest of Honour for the 25th edition of the Sharjah International Narrator Forum. Organised annually by the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, the forum attracts a distinguished group of researchers, practitioners, and cultural institutions specialising in intangible heritage. Each edition features a new thematic focus and honours outstanding figures who have contributed to the preservation of folk narratives, making the forum a defining event on the Arab and international cultural calendar.

CMA, NG9 Holding sign Dh55m partnership to enhance local film and TV production in Abu Dhabi
11 June 2025 10:15 ABU DHABI (ALETIHAD)The Abu Dhabi Creative Media Authority (CMA) has signed an agreement with NG9 Group, a dynamic consortium comprising Nirvana Holding, Gewan Holding, and 9Yards Group, for a multi-sector strategic collaboration. The partnership will initially deliver two feature films and a 10-episode TV series, with a total value of Dh55 million ($15 million), set for global photography is slated to begin in September, employing local crews and integrating Emirati talent both on-screen and behind the scenes, aligning with the Abu Dhabi Film Commission's enhanced rebate program designed to showcase Emirati culture and part of the collaboration, CMA will provide valuable services such as location support, talent development initiatives, talent casting and the ADFC cashback rebate. NG9 Group will extend preferential rates on hotels, car rentals, flights, and tourism-related services to projects supported by the Abu Dhabi Film Commission, including special vehicle rentals, such as yachts, and private Khouri, Director of Industry Development at the Creative Media Authority, said: 'As we work to position Abu Dhabi as one of the world's leading creative hubs, expanding our local industry offering remains a core focus.
