NASA and Axiom Space were yet to announce a new date for the launch of the Axiom-4 iss ion to the International Space Station (ISS), involving India's astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla and three others, after the lift-off was delayed due to a leak detected in SpaceX's Falcon-9 rocket."A new launch date for the fourth private astronaut mission will be provided once available," a joint statement from Axiom Space and NASA said, announcing the postponement of the launch of the Axiom-4 mission.The statement said as part of an ongoing investigation, NASA was also working with Roscosmos to understand a new pressure signature, after the recent post-repair effort in the aftmost segment of the International Space Station's Zvezda service module."Cosmonauts aboard the space station recently performed inspections of the pressurised module's interior surfaces, sealed some additional areas of interest, and measured the current leak rate. Following this effort, the segment is now holding pressure," the statement saidThe postponement of Axiom Mission 4 provides additional time for NASA and Roscosmos to evaluate the situation and determine whether any additional troubleshooting is necessary. NASA defers to Roscosmos to answer specific questions about the Zvezda module, the statement said.Former NASA astronaut and director of human spaceflight at Axiom Space Peggy Whitson will command the commercial mission, while Indian Space Research Organisation astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla will serve as pilot.The two mission specialists are ESA (European Space Agency) project astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski of Poland and Tibor Kapu of Hungary.The crew will lift off aboard the SpaceX Dragon spacecraft on Falcon 9 from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.The 14-day mission will "realise the return" to human spaceflight for India, Poland and Hungary.The Axiom-4 mission was originally scheduled for launch on May 29. It was first postponed to June 8 and later to June 10.On June 10, the launch was postponed by a day due to bad weather in the flight path. On June 11, SpaceX engineers detected a leak in the rocket's booster, forcing them to delay the launch till the problem was resolved.

KAU sending seeds to space on NASA's Axiom Mission 4
In a collaboration, the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) is joining NASA's Axiom Mission 4, marking a significant milestone for Indian agricultural science in space research. The mission will carry seed varieties developed by the KAU to the International Space Station (ISS) as part of a collaborative research initiative. The project is a joint effort involving the European Space Agency (ESA), Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), and the KAU's College of Agriculture, Vellayani. The seeds selected for the space experiment include six high-yielding locally developed crop varieties: Jyothi, Uma (rice varieties); Kanakamani (horse gram); Thilakathara (sesame); Soorya (brinjal/eggplant); Vellayani Vijay (tomato). These seeds will undergo rigorous scientific evaluation in the unique microgravity environment of space, according to KAU sources. The primary goal of the study is to examine how space conditions, especially microgravity, affect germination, growth, and viability of food crop seeds. After spending time at the ISS, the seeds will be brought back to earth, planted in controlled environments, and monitored closely for changes in growth, resilience, and productivity. Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubanshu Shukla, one of the astronauts aboard the Axiom Mission 4, will play a supportive role in conducting the experiment in space. Among six Indian-led experiments selected for the mission, KAU's microgravity-focussed agricultural research stands out as a key scientific contribution, the KAU sources said.

IIT Madras students build solar car ‘Aagneya' for global race in Australia
A team of students from IIT Madras has designed and built a solar-powered car called 'Aagneya' to take part in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2025. The global race covers 3,000 kilometres across the Australian outback, from Darwin to Adelaide, and will be held from August 24 to August 31, car was developed by Team Agnirath, a 38-member student group from IIT Madras's Centre for Innovation (CFI). What started in 2021 with just six students has now become one of India's top student-led engineering solar car, Aagneya, was officially unveiled at the IIT Madras campus by Director Professor V Kamakoti, who praised the team's innovation and said such student-led efforts are key to building successful start-ups and unicorns in India. Professor V Kamakoti said that IIT Madras is building a strong and structured system to support start-ups and help them scale.
