BALTIMORE — Khali Horton had 28 points to lead Coppin State to an 82-75 overtime victory over Morgan State on Thursday night in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference regular-season finale.
Horton made three throws with 16 seconds left to send the game to OT tied at 69. Horton and Derrius Ward opened the extra period with 3-pointers and the Eagles never looked back.

Walter P. Carter Neighborhood pool opens in Northeast Baltimore
The rain on Saturday morning did not stop Baltimore City from unofficially kicking off summer. Local leaders and community members made a big 'splash' as they welcomed the brand-new Walter P. Carter Neighborhood Pool in Wilson Park. Jill Carter said it is more than a pool— it's her father's legacy. "Walter P. Carter was my father. Walter P. Carter was a man, a living, breathing man who stood for uncompromising principles and integrity," said Jill Carter, Walter P. Carter's daughter and former District 41 State Senator. Carter's father is the reason she spent her Saturday morning celebrating the grand opening of the brand-new pool. "His last words on Earth— public words– were I will commit the rest of my life to making this city a fit place where our kids can live, and this is a testament to that. This is a legacy of that. This is a place where our children can come," Carter explained. Community members, Mayor Brandon Scott, and Baltimore City Recreation & Parks jumped in to help mark the occasion while emphasizing the importance of having a safe place to swim. "We want them to come and have fun in a safe way. Never swim when there isn't a lifeguard. Make sure your parents sign you up for Rec Pro so you can get into the pool," said Mayor Scott. New Baltimore City pool renovations The Walter P. Carter pool is part of the City's "Rec Rollout" initiative. It's one of three redesigned facilities opening this summer. "It is right there in their neighborhood for them to go to, to swim with their friend, and swim with their neighbors, and enjoy their pool," said Karen Jordan, the Deputy Director for Baltimore City Recreation & Parks. For years, Rec and Parks has been prioritizing renovations and repairs to address the aging infrastructure of city pools. Throughout 2024, the city made upgrades to multiple community pools. Patterson Park Pool reopened in May 2024 after being closed the previous summer for extensive renovations. The closure angered community members due to the sweltering heat in August 2023. The pool now features a brand-new mechanical system, piping, plumbing, drains, and a pool liner. Neighborhood pools, like at Walter P. Carter, will operate Monday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. "If you want to exercise, we have lap lanes. If you just want to come and get wet and enjoy yourself, we have that as well. But we also have furniture and other amenities so that you can come and just enjoy yourself at our pools," Moore told WJZ. Park pools will expand their schedule starting June 17, operating Monday through Thursday from noon to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Weekend hours remain 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Several OTA practices have already given us so much to talk about. Rashod Bateman is set to enter another tax bracket after signing an extension. Ar'Darius Washington is in a contract season, but he is unfortunately injured. That has seemingly opened the door for the nearly-forgotten Jalyn Armour-Davis, who has since gotten some snaps and worked at the safety position. For the Ravens to take another step in the right direction and get back to the AFC Championship Game, the backend of their defense will need to take a few steps of their own. We know there isn't much to worry about with Marlon Humphrey and Kyle Hamilton. The latter has missed a few OTA sessions, but there's a lot of optimism in the tandem he will form with a newly-acquired and highly-touted rookie. Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr has a ton of faith in his starting safety duo. The first three seasons of Kyle Hamilton's career were good enough to inspire the potential envy of NFL stars who are five years his senior. He earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie Team in 2022. He has only gotten better since then. A member of the past two Pro Bowl rosters, he earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2023 before being named a Second-Teamer in 2024. One star alone, however, does not an elite safety tandem make, so Baltimore found an answer and an upgrade during the first round of this past April's draft in Malaki Starks. Saying defense coordinator Zach Orr is excited would be a massive understatement. This past week, he expressed his expectation for Hamilton and Starks as a duo. The NFL is a long way from college football in terms of level of competition, but Starks looks like a sure thing. Baltimore is hoping his skill set translates to the highest level of football. During his time in Athens with the Georgia Bulldogs, he was named a Freshman All-American and became a College Football Playoff National Champion. He was a Consensus All-American in 2023, a First-team All-American in 2024, and has two First-Team All-SEC (2023, 2024) to show for his trouble. He's used to playing in big games. He's certain to play in several this season, and fortunately for him, though the pressure to perform will come quickly, he doesn't have to do everything on his own.

In a recent article by PFF's Zoltán Buday, he ranks who he believes are the top 32 safeties in the NFL heading into the 2025 season. And at the top spot, he has the 24-year-old Ravens star stealing the show. "Hamilton showed off his versatility in 2024, moving to free safety for most of the second half of the season after playing mainly in the box or as a slot cornerback initially," Buday wrote. "He was also the most complete safety in the league as the only player at the position to earn at least an 88.0 PFF grade in coverage, run defense and pass rushing." The Ravens selected Hamilton out of Notre Dame with the 14th overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and they have not looked back since. Advertisement He finished the 2024 season with a very impressive 107 total tackles, with 77 of them being solo. Hamilton was also able to show his ball-hawk skills by snagging an interception and defending nine passes. The Ravens lost to the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Divisional round this past season, so Hamilton and the rest of the team's defense will be looking to help lead the team back to the playoffs to redeem themselves.
